Unapologetic • Pakistani • Real | Maidan Circle is a platform for the shared experiences of British Pakistani men from working class backgrounds. Hailing from a vast range of lived experiences and points of religiosity, we stand for a significant but marginalised proportion of the British population…
In the fourth episode we switch it up a bit, as we invite a rising star of poetry and mental health advocate LookMann (Instagram: @Lookmann.thepoet) on to the show. We explore the conflicts of a brown man entering the creative space whilst stepping in to his past to look at the motivations behind it - from a childhood in the Brexit Capital of Stoke-on-Trent right through to his current experiences with society. We also explore a mental health initiative he has founded and the issues and experiences leading to him taking up this cause.
In Maidan Circle's latest instalment, the lads - Babar (@TheBabstien), Saf (@MaidanCircle) and Sohail (@Sohaileus) - take on mainstream representation of British Pakistanis. This episode runs through the idea of most mainstream representatives as "sell-outs", obstacles faced by apneh trying to break certain glass ceilings, how these are reflected in workplace settings and the idea of actively support up-and-comers.
The Maidan Circle lads - Babar (@TheBabstien), Saf (@MaidanCircle) and Sohail (@Sohaileus) - explore classism and its impact on the community. In the Maidan Circle trailer, we take poignant excerpts from the very first episode to explain what the Maidan Circle is and what it seeks to do. Join your hosts Babar (@TheBabstien), Saf (@MaidanCircle) and Sohail (@Sohaileus) in exploring how the concept came about.
In Maidan Circle's inaugural episode, your hosts Babar (@TheBabstien), Saf (@MaidanCircle) and Sohail (@Sohaileus) reflect on how Maidan came to be and take a light hearted approach to issues facing working class British Pakistani men. They touch on their own personal stories before thinking about issues affecting our community; including drugs, the crisis of masculinity, lack of media representation and intergenerational discord. They also touch on future plans for the podcast and the topics that are set to be discussed!
