Kicking things off, writer and car aficionado Spike Feresten shares what it was like working with Jerry Seinfeld on Unfrosted, but the conversation quickly veers into the fast lane—vintage race cars, high-stakes auctions, and legendary motorcycles. From Jerry's Porsche 917 auction to Jay Leno's crash wisdom, Adam and Spike swap stories about the machines that shaped them. Later, Adam takes on the latest cultural battlefield: classism, after a weekend tweet explodes into controversy. He defends his stance on self-reliance and claps back at critics who accuse him of privilege, sharing a no-nonsense take on paying your fair share and pandemic-era handouts. Jason "Mayhem" Miller breaks down the biggest headlines, including a $100M grant linking racism to Alzheimer's, a push to remove soda from food stamps, and the NYC subway attack victim's family demanding justice. After the break, Jon Cryer joins Adam to reminisce about their days as neighbors and his wild ride working with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. He then introduces Suzanne Rico, whose shocking new podcast, The Man Who Calculated Death, uncovers her family's dark Nazi past—a gripping real-life historical investigation. Quackcast 724 - America's Plutocratic classism

The QuackCast

Is there a culture of plutocratic classism in the USA? I'm inspired by Trump's America and how people think that people like Elon Musk and him are above the law because they're rich, while conversely the lowest rank in society are the homeless and the poor. But what do I mean by “Plutocratic classism”? A plutocracy is a society where people's position is determined by their wealth, classism is our tendency to discriminate based on social class, put that together and you have people determining social value by how much money a person seems to have. Gunwallace joins us for this Quackcast, replacing Banes while he has a sabbatical, he along with Tantz Aerine and myself examine this idea from an outsider's perspective. Gunwallace like me comes from an extremely egalitarian society where the idea of obvious classism is frowned upon. Australia and New Zealand were countries created by people leaving the classist aristocratic society of Great Brittain so that they could make something of themselves outside of that rigid system where class was determined by family name, accent, where you grew up, where you went to school etc. In our countries any sort of obvious classism is seen as extremely vulgar and worthy of social attack. Of course aspects of it still exist but it's bellow the surface. Tantz Aerine's Greece has been through a number of changes, coming from aristocratic origins as well as modern communist influences. It means we all have an external view on this subject Plutocratic classism is a vision of the world that shows up all over American media, classically with something like Trading Places with Dan Akroyd and Eddy Murphy, even another Eddy Murphy film, Coming to America, Illustrates that beautifully. In the former a homeless black person and a wealthy white stock trader and made to switch places in society (mainly their level of wealth swaps), and they're subsequently treated extremely differently. In Coming to America an African prince comes to the USA and disguises himself as a poor person, the way he's treated changes dramatically. As the story progresses he meets various people at different social economic levels: the well-off middle-class small business owner father of his girlfriend in particular, as well as her rich ex, and all these people are treated as being on different rungs of the social class ladder depending on heir wealth. It's seen in very common tropes like the “dead hooker” jokes, the way homeless people are constantly shown as expendable trash, and the way people who live in trailer parks are looked down upon in American media, it's pure plutocratic classism. This shows up in American pop-culture media constantly. While the wealthy are seen as ersatz aristocracy and their children are viewed as scions, princes and princesses. Have you noticed this trend in American pop-culture media? Do you agree that it exists both in fiction and reality or is this all just communist bulsh1t that I'm blathering on about? In this episode, Niall Boylan speaks with John McGuirk from Gript Media about the recent riots in Coolock. The government is planning to convert the old Crown Paints factory into an accommodation center for asylum seekers, leading to significant unrest in the area. John McGuirk explains why he won't condemn the riots, emphasizing the government's failure to engage meaningfully with local communities and the broader issues of immigration policy.John discusses the government's failure to properly consult with communities before implementing large-scale asylum centers. He cites a memo indicating that such actions undermine social cohesion and cause unrest. "They say they're engaging with locals, but if you believe telling locals it's happening whether they like it or not is actually engaging, well, I assume they're telling the truth," he states. The conversation touches on the different responses to protests based on the socio-economic status of the protestors. John points out, "Classism is the issue in Irish society that no one discusses. There is a huge difference between some college student called Finbar getting beaten by the Gardaí and somebody who comes from communities where drug problems are, speaks with a very thick Dublin working class accent, and protests migrants."John highlights the government's strategy of placing asylum centers in areas where they believe it will do the least electoral damage, often targeting working-class areas. "The government's approach has been to put these centres into areas where they feel that it's not going to particularly damage them electorally as much," he explains. The discussion also covers media bias and its impact on public perception. John criticizes the media for holding the public accountable instead of the government. "So many of these people in the media, these weasels, seem to think it's their job to hold the people to account on behalf of the state rather than the other way around," he asserts.Niall and John debate whether protests have any real impact, with John noting, "Protest only works to the extent that it generates political pressure that forces politicians to change their views."Join Niall and John as they explore the complexities surrounding the Coolock riots, the role of the government, and the challenges of discussing these issues openly in today's media landscape.

Over the past few weeks, I have been on a teaching tour in the USA, where I have been working predominantly with classical singers and teachers who want to learn more about contemporary commercial music styles. The feedback was overwhelming, and many of the singers expressed they had a deep desire to sing this music, but there was limited opportunity in higher education. Many of the teachers were surprised to learn that many of our philosophies and approaches aligned, but it is just that our teaching is geared towards creating a different aesthetic. I was extremely grateful and humbled by all the positive feedback. I believe it is time for higher education to embrace this music and there needs to be a hierarchical change for this to happen. My trip has inspired to replay segments of a former interview with Matt Edwards and Jacqulyn Zito-Edwards, this week on A Voice and Beyond.Matt and Jacqulyn have been working together on some ongoing research into the roots of the academic bias against popular music. You can go back and listen to episodes #99 and #101 for a full recap.Jacqulyn is an adjunct assistant professor of voice for the musical theatre program at Shenandoah Conservatory and serves on faculty at the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute. Matt has been working at Shenandoah University since 2010 as an Associate Professor, within the Voice and Musical Theatre departments. He is also the Coordinator of Musical Theatre Voice and Artistic Director of CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute. In this fascinating episode, Matt and Jacqulyn delve deeply into the history of the classism and racism that has perpetuated the status quo in the training of CCM singers. Those Wonderful People Out There In The Dark

Film is such a wonderful art form --- in some instances, almost the entirety of the world may be encompassed. Or the artist makes the attempt to capture the world. And thereby capture timeless subjects that are repeated down the years. Imagine developing a film that looks at the humanity of man. Classism. Racism. Antisemitism. War. The rise of fascism. Nationalism. Accomplished nearly one hundred years ago now --- and the ugly elements portrayed in the film are still around to plague us. Still relevant today. The masterstroke was to expose all of this in a story elegantly simple and straightforward. It was done in 1937 by Jean Renoir --- the film, Grand Illusion. Here --- I'll give you the plot. Two French pilots are captured during WWI. They're sent to a prison camp and try to escape. They almost make it out, but at the last moment, they're sent to a different camp, supposedly inescapable. The German commandant of the POW camp admires them. They hatch another plan to escape, involving a third prisoner. Two of the prisoners escape, due to the sacrifice of the third, shot by the German commandant. There. That's it. In offering a controversial exploration of a widespread activist approach am I defending my own white, male, class privilege? How many of us consider recycling the answer to plastic pollution? We are sold the idea that it's okay to buy and use these materials because they can be recycled into other things. But these claims are ultimately untrue. 95% of the plastic produced in the world goes directly into the landfill, and essentially stays there forever. The small percentage of materials that make it into the recycling system might find a reuse, but will ultimately end up as trash as well, or be shipped overseas to become someone else's garbage. These are some of the shocking truths that are revealed by Eve O. Schaub In her newest book and experiment, "Year of No Garbage: Recycling Lies, Plastic Problems, and One Woman's Trashy Journey to Zero Waste". In this interview, Eve tells the story of how she convinces her entire family to go a year without producing any garbage. With a family of four, it was already a monumental task, and when the pandemic hit just a few months into the experiment, it became even more challenging. However, throughout it all, Eve and her family remained committed to their goal, resulting in a transformative experience. She shares with Mary and Emma her motivations for taking on this no-garbage challenge, describes her experience, and reflects on the valuable lessons she learned along the way. During this experimental year, Eve gained a wealth of knowledge about the pervasive plastic pollution in our soil and bodies, the influence of fossil fuel companies in lobbying for increased plastic production, and the silent epidemic of plastic waste. Despite the alarming nature of her findings, Eve is able to convey this information with a sense of humor and perspective that gets the message across.. Tune in for an insightful and entertaining discussion that will inspire you to reconsider waste and its impact on our lives. Dr. Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: https://utm.io/ueSXh Dr Jordan B Peterson and Dr. Richard Lindzen dive into the facts of climate change, the models used to predict it, the dismal state of academia, and the politicized world of “professional” science. Richard Lindzen is a dynamical meteorologist. He has contributed to the development of theories for the Hadley Circulation, hydrodynamic instability theory, internal gravity waves, atmospheric tides, and the quasi-biennial oscillation of the stratosphere. His current research is focused on climate sensitivity, the role of cirrus clouds in climate, and the determination of the tropics-to-pole temperature difference. He has attained multiple degrees from Harvard University, and won multiple awards in his field of study such as the Jule Charney award for “highly significant research in the atmospheric sciences”. Between 1983 and 2013, he was the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at MIT where he earned emeritus status in July of 2013. - Sponsors - Exodus90: Is it time for your Exodus?
