Million Hours

In the first part of this podcast, Garry and I hunted for edible plants in the fields and orchards around my rented house in the Soller valley. And we found plenty to eat. However, because the land is cultivated and cleared we didn't find any mushrooms. Garry Eveleigh was a fisherman. He was also a boat builder and the skipper of a ferry which took passengers from England's south coast to the Isle of Wight and The Needles. Now in his mid-sixties, he is enjoying another incarnation as one of Britain's most sought-after foragers. He takes groups on guided tours of the New Forest National Park, teaching a mix of ancient country skills and modern botany while collecting elements of lunch or dinner. Roger is a master of reinvention. For ten years he worked in a Buddhist monastery, where he became an expert in meditation. Since then, he has worked in security, cyber defence and bespoke travel. He now runs Dulabab, creating unique expeditions for discerning and extremely wealthy clients. Duncan Ross is a former Managing Director at JP Morgan, America's largest investment bank. For much of his career, he ran a multi-national corporation with a large workforce, enormous revenues and offices in numerous countries. And then, in his early fifties, he retired. And everything stopped. So, what did Duncan do next? Well that, as it turns out, is a very interesting and heart-warming story, involving, to date, thousands of homeless and street-connected kids worldwide.
