The Conservation of Charge and the Practical Genius of the Lightning Rod. Richard Munson discusses how Benjamin Franklin was an endlessly busy experimenter who began his famous work by studying the Leiden jar, a rudimentary battery. Franklin conducted fundamental research and developed the law of the conservation of charge: the idea that positive and negative electrical charges always seek balance. On Christmas Day 1750, he exposed himself to danger by touching the terminals of two Leiden jars, which violently threw him across the room. In 1751, Franklin published his pamphlet, Experiments and Observations on Electricity Made in Philadelphia, America, which generated international fame before the kite experiment. Franklin sought a practical solution to the danger posed by lightning, and his experiment confirmed the connection between lightning and electricity, leading to the invention of the lightning rod, which became a great practical discovery saving lives and buildings. Franklin also invented the Franklin stove and refused a patent, viewing the invention as a public benefit. He pursued observation and experimentation with "joyfulness," viewing unexpected results as new possibilities.
America's business culture in the mid-century was decidedly drab: men in dark suits with close-cropped hair ruled the day, and in many ways were perfectly primed for disruption. So it was that the youngest division head ever to grace the C-suite at General Motors built a maverick reputation and, upon leaving (or being pushed! Accounts differ) set about to start a car company from scratch. John DeLorean's dream sports car did briefly become a reality, but the ephemera and shady dealings that put a few thousand of them on the road would lead to an epic downfall, and cost him his family as well. Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" talks to John Anderson about transitioning from politics to public commentary; the rise of long-form media and distrust in mainstream news; why young people seek deeper conversations; the decline of reason-based debate in Western democracies; how progressive voices avoid open discussion and rely on emotional arguments over facts; Australia's cultural complacency and erosion of Western values; and the danger of avoiding hard choices for future generations; the fading Crocodile Dundee spirit in Australia; how complacency and cultural comfort have eroded resilience; Australia's historical roots in authority versus America's experiment in freedom; young men searching for meaning amid declining mental health; the impact of Jordan Peterson on restoring responsibility and masculinity; how victimhood culture spread across the West; mainstream media decline and the rise of podcasts like Joe Rogan; the importance of truth, trust, and long-form conversation in the face of AI and media collapse; Australia's fading national identity; Melbourne feeling like a globalized "blue city" disconnected from traditional Australian culture; rising immigration reshaping demographics; concerns about importing ideologies hostile to Western values; radical Islam and pro-Hamas demonstrations after October 7; the danger of cultural complacency and forgetting founding principles; how democracy requires shared moral foundations, assimilation, and leadership to avoid national decline; and much more.
“The Chief Justice… is presiding over the end of the rule of law in America”. That quote did not come from host Dahlia Lithwick, but this week's guest, former Federal Circuit Court Judge and George H. W. Bush appointee, J Michael Luttig. On this week's show, Judge Luttig explains the unprecedented split we're seeing between the federal courts and the highest court in the land in response to Trump's lawlessness on everything from tariffs, to due process, to deploying the National Guard, and what it all means for the future of American democracy. Next, Dahlia talks to the CEO of the small family business at the center of the tariffs case that will be argued at SCOTUS on Wednesday. Rick Woldenberg of Learning Resources explains why he's standing up to Trump's monarchic power grab, and why he sees himself standing shoulder-to-shoulder with James Madison. Want more Amicus? This week: OpenAI has moved away from being run as a non-profit. Felix Salmon, Elizabeth Spiers, and Emily Peck discuss the stated reasons behind the move and what it actually means to be a not-for-profit company. Then, the rates for next year's Affordable Care Act marketplace insurance have come out, and the prices have skyrocketed, reflecting an increase in healthcare costs across the board in the US. The hosts examine the reasons for this depressing trend. And finally, lovers of Maurizio Cattelan's “America”, rejoice. Though his original piece was stolen, it turned out there was a spare 14k gold toilet all along and it will be auctioned off at Sotheby's amid record high gold prices. Joint Sword 2024: China's Anaconda Strategy Against Taiwan and Washington's Persistence in Failed Engagement. Captain James Fanell and Bradley Thayer assert that America must urgently reverse its strategic errors regarding China. Fanell notes that China is currently demonstrating aggression toward Taiwan, announcing two days of "Joint Sword 2024 Alpha" exercises conducted very close to Taiwan, inside the contiguous zone. China is using the recent inauguration speech of Taiwan's new President Lai as the casus belli, claiming his equating Taiwan and China as two separate nations constitutes a move toward independence. Fanell expects the operation to include ballistic missiles fired into closure areas, with China practicing targeting key areas, blockading, and isolating Taiwan. The PRC is employing an "Anaconda strategy," increasing pressure and suffocating Taiwan. Bradley Thayer assesses Washington's response, stating that fundamentally, little has changed despite some rhetorical and policy shifts, as the Biden administration remains influenced by the "engagement school." Thayer attributes the persistence of this flawed framework to the PRC's strategy of "elite capture," spanning Wall Street, the Chamber of Commerce, think tanks, K Street law firms, and Congress.
Will the AI bubble pop or will AI permanently reshape our society? Jon sits down with Stephen Witt, an investigative journalist and author of “The Thinking Machine: Jensen Huang, Nvidia, and the World's Most Coveted Microchip” to talk about Stephen's dire warning in the New York Times about an AI prompt that could end the world. The two discuss the data centers taking over towns across America (and propping up our economy), young people's quickly evolving relationship to “chat,” and what hope they both have — more than you would expect — for our AI future. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. On October 8, 2025, the Alliance of Indigenous Nations (A.I.N.) issued a world's 1st Declaration and Ruling as an Internationally Recognized Tribunal declaring all mRNA COVID-19 vaccines biological and technological gene-editing weapons of mass destruction purposefully designed to eradicate all of humanity from earth. This declaration was served upon the RCMP and National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa by a man named Chief William Denby, was emailed by our host Brad Wozny to President Trump, Vice President Vance, the Inspector General in Washington, and the magnitude for what was brought forward is thanks to the vigilance and fiery spirit of Freda Davis, a member of the Haida clan in the Pacific Northwest, who did not turn a blind eye to the evil. She and her husband Elvis Davis, a Chief and also a member of the Haida clan, join our host Brad Wozny to share their gut-wrenching tale of tragedy among this sobering triumph to help save our children and stop the slaughter of mankind. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, of course, Israel does not control President Trump, nor has it controlled any past president. Israel is not "ethnic" cleansing, that would be the motivations and intentions of the Islamist terrorists -- throughout the Middle East and Africa. The multiple and unprecedented steps it has taken to try to limit casualties, at the cost of IDF soldiers' lives and increasing the longevity of the war in Gaza, is no secret, and we were not ethnic cleansing when we destroyed multiple population centers in Europe and Japan during World War II. Israel is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious society and a democracy. The only one in the Middle East. How many Christians and Jews remain in Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East, and for those few who are left, are they treated equally? These are basic facts. Later, we're at a time where constitutional conservatives and their institutions are being tested. It's simple for people of real faith to reject evil and stand firm in the battle of ideas, rather than equivocate due to conflicts. America faces a turning point; platforms, think tanks, politicians must choose and reveal if they're pretenders or defenders of liberty, as Reagan warned freedom is one generation from extinction. Also, capitalism is the only humane economic system. Economic socialism is an inhumane economic system. Socialism promotes the welfare state. Capitalism promotes the individual. Zohran Mamdani has no idea how to do anything except use the iron fist of government to impose his ideology. He is calling for a massive welfare state. Afterward, America First prioritizes the exceptional nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles and Enlightenment ideals—the Declaration of Independence and unparalleled Constitution—with limited representative government, federalism, God-given unalienable rights, and strong federal roles in national security, borders, and sound money. It rejects suicidal isolationism. Finally, Rep Byron Donalds calls in to discuss the government shutdown. He exposes the Democrats hypocrisy, pointing out Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats voted for the identical measure in March. Donalds argues they're posturing as tough guys to appease the crazy radical left and thwart Trump and MAGA, but lack real policies or ideas to help Americans, instead leading the country down the wrong road. This week's episode started with the usual existential sigh before tumbling straight into the corporate bloodbath. Amazon chopped 14,000 jobs under the noble banner of “embracing AI,” which CEO Andy Jassy insists isn't about money—despite swimming Scrooge McDuck–style in profit. GM's cutting 1,700 workers, YouTube's dangling “voluntary” buyouts, and economists can't decide if AI is killing jobs or if the economy's just trash. Microsoft's winning either way, sitting pretty on OpenAI's planned $1 trillion IPO, while Meta stock cratered because Zuckerberg's still shoveling billions into the AI bonfire instead of quietly burying the metaverse. Meanwhile, Elon managed to cram a week's worth of disasters into a single news cycle: Tesla's being probed for its idiotic “Mad Max” mode, recalling thousands more Cybertrucks because they can't figure out glue, launching Grokipedia (Wikipedia's evil twin), and turning Truth Social into a crypto casino. Somewhere between the chaos, more people tuned into a fake NVIDIA livestream than the real one, and the only vaguely uplifting story was a grieving family using an AI chatbot to hack a $195K hospital bill down to $33K.In media misery, we soothed our nuclear anxiety with A House of Dynamite, tolerated Welcome to Derry, rolled our eyes at Stranger Things 5, and confirmed Slow Horses still rules. Music listeners, please stop streaming fascism—cancel Spotify. On the tech toy front, Grammarly's having an identity crisis as “Superhuman,” Affinity caved to the subscription gods, and Apple's prepping to inject ads into Maps because the world wasn't already annoying enough. In 1974, six members of the DeFeo family were found murdered in their home in Amityville, New York. And the scene of the crime was troubling... in fact, curiously, it appeared as if none of the family members had awoken while the others were being murdered. And when a suspect was finally arrested, and he began speaking to investigators about the voices in his head that told him to kill, things just kept getting stranger and stranger. This is one of the most infamous true crime stories in American history, and the case that inspired the film series "The Amityville Horror". n today's thought-provoking episode, Tom is joined by his ever-insightful co-host Drew for a dynamic, no-holds-barred conversation tackling the most pressing issues shaping our world right now. The crew dives headfirst into global politics—from the ongoing turmoil in Israel and Gaza, to the influence of leaders like Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump—analyzing whether the problems we face are rooted in individuals or systemic forces. The discussion takes an especially sharp turn when Tom and Drew debate the economic policies of populist leaders, with a special focus on Mamdani and the rise of socialist ideas. Tom is adamant about the dangers of deficit spending and the unintended consequences of well-intentioned but economically unsound policies, arguing that populism risks making life harder for the very people it claims to champion. Drew, meanwhile, pushes back, questioning whether reallocating government spending toward infrastructure and services—like free buses—could offer real solutions for the middle and lower classes. Listeners can expect rigorous analysis of America's fractured economy, why wealth inequality is exploding, the pitfalls of government spending, and the urgent need for economic literacy. The team even explores how America's mass under-education and lost competitive edge might threaten its place on the world stage, especially compared to China's meteoric rise. Throughout, Tom anchors the conversation around the core values that he believes America needs to reclaim: self-improvement, ambition, and a relentless drive to win. Thought experiments, tough questions about the future of unproductive citizens, and even reflections on children's entertainment and cultural mindsets round out this expansive, deeply relevant episode. Jon Stewart has been a leading figure in political comedy since before the turn of the millennium. But compared to his early years on Comedy Central's “The Daily Show”—when Stewart was merciless in his attacks on George W. Bush's Administration—these are much more challenging times for late-night comedians. Jimmy Kimmel nearly lost his job over a remark about MAGA supporters of Charlie Kirk, after the head of the F.C.C. threatened ABC. CBS recently announced the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's program. And Stewart now finds himself very near the hot seat: Comedy Central is controlled by David Ellison, the Trump-friendly C.E.O. of the recently merged Paramount Skydance. Stewart's contract comes up in December. “You're going to sign another one?” David Remnick asked him, in a live interview at The New Yorker Festival. “We're working on staying,” Stewart said. “You don't compromise on what you do. You do it till they tell you to leave. That's all you can do.” Stewart, moreover, doesn't blame solely Donald Trump for recent attacks on the independence of the media, universities, and other institutions. “This is the hardest truth for us to get at, is that [these] institutions . . . have problems. They do. And, if we don't address those problems in a forthright way, then those institutions become vulnerable to this kind of assault. Credibility is not something that was just taken. It was also lost.” In fact, Stewart also directs his ire at “the Democratic Party, [which] thinks it's O.K. for their Senate to be an assisted-living facility.” “In the general-populace mind, government no longer serves the interests of the people it purports to represent. That's a broad-based, deep feeling. And that helps when someone comes along and goes, ‘The system is rigged,' and people go, ‘Yeah, it is rigged.' Now, he's a good diagnostician. I don't particularly care for his remedy.”This episode was recorded live at The New Yorker Festival, on October 26, 2025. New episodes of The New Yorker Radio Hour drop every Tuesday and Friday. Join host David Remnick as he discusses the latest in politics, news, and current events in conversation with political leaders, newsmakers, innovators, New Yorker staff writers, authors, actors, and musicians.

Greg Jenner is joined in the 18th century by Professor Frank Cogliano and comedian and actor Patton Oswalt to learn about the American War of Independence. Also known as the American Revolutionary War, 2025 marks 250 years since the start of the conflict in 1775, when the first battles between the British army and the colonial resistance were fought at Lexington and Concord. But what caused Britain's North American colonies to rebel against the king and government in London? At what point did they start to see themselves as American and not British? And how did a colonial militia take on an imperial superpower? This episode charts the growing rift between Britain and its American colonists, taking in famous events like the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party and the calling of the first Continental Congress, all the way through to the Declaration of Independence and the course of the revolutionary war itself. We learn how America fought to free itself from the shackles of British rule, and meet some well-known names from history, including Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and George Washington. And we also ask whose freedom was being fought for, and who – such as Black and Indigenous Americans – got left behind. This is a radio edit of the original podcast episode. Mount Bachelor, one of America's largest and beloved ski resorts, was put up for sale in August of 2024 after two decades of contentious corporate ownership. Sensing a sliver of opportunity, a high school teacher, a housing appraiser and local home builder launched a community campaign to put this ski hill back in the hands of locals. What started as a Facebook thread, snowballed into a legitimate would-be buyer with $100 million in local backing that collided into Wall Street players, the specter of climate change and the looming reality that the joy of skiing is no longer a simple business to run. “The Buffalo Hunter Hunter,” by Stephen Graham Jones, is two things at once: a searching historical novel that examines America's past sins and also a gory horror thriller. The book opens in 2012, when a construction worker in a dilapidated church parsonage finds a 100-year-old journal written by a pastor named Arthur Beaucarne. Jennifer Welch, a 51-year-old Texan turned Oklahoman, is radicalizing America one wine mom at a time. The southern podcaster (who might finally be our “Joe Rogan of the Left”) has become an unlikely, fierce critic of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the corrupt Democratic establishment, and unregulated capitalism, which she says “brought us Trump” (I agree). This week, Jennifer and I cross a generational divide to discuss Israel's erosion of the Democratic Party, Ezra Klein's idiotic centrist plea for more anti-abortion Democrats, and how to sell democratic socialism to the masses. In this episode of the Redacted History Podcast we take a deep dive into the history and importance of Unions in the United States of America. What is a Union? What do Americans think? What does our government think? How are worker's rights being protected? I sat down with Rashaad Pritchett, a housekeeping aide at Kaiser Richmond in Richmond, California. Rashaad is also a member of SEIU-UHW, a healthcare union comprised of over 120,000 workers who led the largest healthcare workers strike in United States history in October 2023. Everyone knows the long history of the Central Intelligence Agency overthrowing foreign governments, but most are unfamiliar with its two favorite cut-outs that now carry out much of the dirty work openly that the CIA did covertly for decades. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) are the public face of the CIA and operate as sister agencies that report back to the mothership. They seek to influence, corrupt, compromise, and control political groups, business groups, and trade unions in order to ensure that the correct America-friendly regime ends up in office. Sometimes that process is peaceful, but not always. — Subscribe to the Macroaggressions video channels: Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/Macroaggressions YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCn3GlVLKZtTkhLJkiuG7a-Q?si=DvKo2lcQhzo8Vuqu — MACRO & Charlie Robinson Links Hypocrazy Audiobook: https://amzn.to/4aogwms The Octopus of Global Control Audiobook: https://amzn.to/3xu0rMm Website: www.Macroaggressions.io Merch Store: https://macroaggressions.dashery.com/ Link Tree: https://linktr.ee/macroaggressionspodcast Activist Post Family Activist Post: www.ActivistPost.com Natural Blaze: www.NaturalBlaze.com Support Our Sponsors C60 Power: https://go.shopc60.com/PBGRT/KMKS9/ | Promo Code: MACRO Chemical Free Body: https://chemicalfreebody.com/macro/ | Promo Code: MACRO Wise Wolf Gold & Silver: https://macroaggressions.gold/ | (800) 426-1836 LegalShield: www.DontGetPushedAround.com EMP Shield: www.EMPShield.com | Promo Code: MACRO Christian Yordanov's Health Program: www.LiveLongerFormula.com/macro Above Phone: https://abovephone.com/macro/ Van Man: https://vanman.shop/?ref=MACRO | Promo Code: MACRO The Dollar Vigilante: https://dollarvigilante.spiffy.co/a/O3wCWenlXN/4471 Nesa's Hemp: www.NesasHemp.com | Promo Code: MACRO Augason Farms: https://augasonfarms.com/MACRO —
Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Friday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan covers Trump's new work requirements for welfare recipients, job losses from the AI revolution, major trade developments with China, new drone defenses for the Pacific, and the growing risks of a satellite disaster in orbit. Work for Welfare Begins: Starting tomorrow, able-bodied adults ages 18 to 65 without dependents must work at least 80 hours a month to receive food aid under Trump's "Triple B Bill." Exemptions include parents of young children and residents in areas with high unemployment. Bryan warns that states managing these programs may soon raise local taxes to offset new administrative costs. AI Cuts Human Jobs: Amazon and other major tech firms are laying off software engineers as AI begins writing code and automating support work. Bryan calls it "a quiet industrial revolution that's going to reshape America's middle class for decades." Trump and Xi Trade Gains and Tensions: China agreed to buy 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans this season, with promises to expand purchases later if relations hold steady. But Xi refused to curb Russian oil imports, signaling Beijing's intent to prolong the war in Ukraine. New U.S. Drone System — The X-BAT: A cutting-edge drone platform called the X-BAT can launch vertically, operate without runways, and land itself like a reusable rocket. Bryan calls it "a game-changer for a future war in the Pacific." A Coming Satellite Crisis: With 100,000 satellites expected in orbit by 2030, experts warn of potential collisions and cascading debris — the "Kessler Syndrome." Bryan explains how one accident could take down global communications and cripple modern life. Venezuela Airstrikes Under Review: Trump is considering airstrikes against Venezuelan drug ports and airfields tied to the Cartel de los Soles. Analysts believe the move could topple Nicolás Maduro and restore democracy under opposition leader María Corina Machado. Europe's Migration Backlash: Germany and Sweden face outrage over migrant crime after courts refused to deport rapists from Eritrea. Bryan highlights how "suicidal empathy" — compassion that undermines security — is destabilizing Western nations. Ukraine's Strain and Russia's Weakness: Russia cut interest rates to ease its stagnant economy while Ukraine faces mass draft dodging as 100,000 young men flee to Europe. Trump responded by reducing U.S. troop levels in Romania to refocus on the Pacific and Latin America. Crisis in Mali: Al Qaeda rebels have surrounded Mali's capital as the U.S. orders citizens to evacuate. Bryan warns that Ukraine's secret aid to jihadist groups could backfire and lead to a new Taliban-style regime in West Africa. Listener Mail — The Morality of Espionage: Bryan answers questions about ethics inside the CIA, sharing personal reflections on moral judgment, mentorship, and the gray zones of intelligence work. As the current government shutdown enters a second month, Senator Mark Kelly joins Mosh to explain what the standoff means for millions of Americans — as funding for SNAP benefits and childcare programs is about to run out. The Arizona Democrat lays out what Democrats are demanding before agreeing to a GOP bill to reopen the government, and why he believes President Trump alone can unlock a deal. The conversation also dives into major global events — from Trump's new trade deal with China to U.S. tensions in Venezuela and a potential return to nuclear weapons testing. Drawing on his military experience, Kelly weighs the risks of the escalation in Latin America and Trump's response to China and Russia.
