John Polhamus' great grandfather was the famed Colorado River boat Captain Issac Polhamus. Issac would span a career of over 50 years navigating the waters from his home base in Yuma AZ, all the way to the gold fields of Nelson Nevada. John has some great insight to not only the river boat captain but also the man behind the ship's wheel. Ken Layne is the author, editor and publisher of a wonderful publication entitled the Desert Oracle, out of Joshua Tree California. I met up with Ken at the main "watering hole" called the Joshua Tree Saloon and we talked about his background in newspaper and journalism, his passion for the desert and some of his favorite stories. So kick back and relax with Ken and I, as we share some conversation over a couple of cold brews... You can find Ken's books at DesertOracle.com and don't forget to listen to his radio show on KCDZ Z107FM, Fridays at 10PM. The Joshua Tree Saloon has an incredible old desert feel, great music, great food and a wonderful helpful staff. If you are ever in JT, it is a must see, especially right after a good hike...
