Fault erriu dys Mona’s Isle. Welcome to the enchanting world of Mona’s Isle! I’m your host, Kyle Withington, and this podcast tells a story inspired by the rich folklore of the Isle of Man, the curious island beyond the mists of the Irish Sea where I was born and grew up. Episode by episode, we’ll follow Ashley, Rory and their father, Arty as they travel to the island to fulfil their mothers last wish, and unearth a family secret that will change the island forever. The show has been made possible thanks to the incredible support of the Isle of Man Arts Council and Culture Vannin, who do so much to champion the arts and the island’s unique cultural heritage. Joining us for this adventure are a host of brilliant Manx actors plucked straight from the islands one-of-a-kind local theatre scene, all propped up by a beautiful, original score composed by David Kilgallon, weaving some of the soul of the island into the tale to follow. And so, without further ado, let’s set sail for the island beyond the mist... after all, there’s always a boat in the morning if you don’t like it!
Arty and Ashley find a smuggler's cove on a walk around the headland. Seeing the pendant Ashley found, Arty recalls one of Claire's stories about a mysterious ben varrey she saw when she was a girl.
Having followed the tailless cat through the hedge at the back of the creepy churchyard, Rory discovers that not everyone in Maughold village is as odd and disconnected as her Granny.
Ashley can't fall asleep. The bed feels weird, and the room is eerily quiet. Something has clawed through his suitcase and a strange light reveals a secret hiding amongst the boxes.
Lost in the marshes and unable to cross a river, Midnight ends up stumbling upon a church with a fresh roof of thatch. The chaplain tells her it likely won't last the night.
