In today's episode, I sit down with Swedish creator and interviewer Theodor Ekstrand to explore the moments that shape who we become. We talk about the early beliefs I absorbed watching my mom raise six kids alone, the pressure to stand out in an academic family, and the rush of making my first million in nine months. I share how success created a deeper emptiness, how I tried to fill it with the wrong things, and how losing everything forced a shift in perspective. We get into the role of work ethic, humility, asking for help, and what it really means to rebuild with a sense of purpose.

Spite Houses: The architectural equivalent of a middle finger. They're structures or dwellings designed specifically to piss someone off. This week, Norm does a deep dive into a truly ridiculous spite house, built and owned by an eccentric millionaire named Joseph Richardson. It all started when a man made an offer on Joseph's 5-foot wide, 102-foot deep tract of land in New York City. Joseph was so offended by the man's (completely reasonable) offer, that he built an odd, skinny structure right next to the man's beautiful apartment building. And the wildest part of it all? Joseph Richardson lived in his spite house for fifteen years. Remember, kids, history hoes always cite their sources! For this episode, Norm pulled from: Alpern, Andrew. The Constitution Study with Host Paul Engel – Trust is a fickle thing. It can take years to gain and seconds to destroy. Today’s Bible Verse:“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” — Colossians 3:23 Colossians 3:23 reframes everyday effort with a deeper purpose. Whether the task is exciting or ordinary, God invites us to work with wholehearted devotion—not for applause, approval, or recognition, but as an act of worship. In this fascinating and wide-ranging conversation, I welcome Reverend Dr David William Parry, a gay, queer Old Catholic priest, poet, and theologian whose work bridges Christian tradition, LGBTQ+ spirituality, and the arts. As founding pastor of St. Valentine's Hall in London—an inclusive Catholic community—David brings a unique perspective on how ancient spiritual traditions can speak to modern seekers across all paths. We explore the surprising connections between Catholic mysticism and shamanic practice, challenge mainstream religious assumptions, and offer hope for those wounded by religious trauma. David's openness about his identity as an "unrepentant homosexual" clergyman provides refreshing honesty about navigating faith traditions that have historically excluded queer voices. You can learn more about David's work on his website

Giants legend and Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms joins BT & Sal for a fiery, in-depth NFL discussion. Simms slams the Giants' "biggest disappointment"—the defensive failure—and calls out the coaching for not being "aggressive" enough. He weighs in on the extensive head coach search, arguing that analytics have made NFL game management "stupid," and reveals what former coach Bill Parcells taught him about chasing points. Simms also tackles the Giants' "leaderless" atmosphere, the controversy surrounding Jaxson Dart's running and Cam Scott's wrestling appearance, and the "sad" state of the Giants' home-field advantage. Finally, he breaks down the top college quarterback prospects the Jets might target, including Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson, offering a strong take on why Mac Jones was the 49ers' true target over Trey Lance.

[Part 2 of 2]On February 24th, 2005, nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford vanished from her bedroom in Homosassa, Florida—taken through an unlocked door while her family slept. The girl who was afraid of the dark, who couldn't sleep without her stuffed purple dolphin, was about to become the center of one of the most heartbreaking cases in American true crime history.Jessica was a cheerful third-grader who loved singing, helping others, and spending time with her dachshund, Corky. She lived with her father Mark and grandparents Ruth and Archie in a small community where neighbors knew each other. The night she disappeared, she'd just returned from church, been tucked into bed by her grandmother, and fell asleep clutching her favorite toy. By morning, both Jessica and her dolphin were gone. This case matters because it exposed critical failures in sex offender monitoring and directly resulted in Jessica's Law—legislation that now protects children across the United States with mandatory minimum sentences and lifetime electronic monitoring for predators.Content Warning: This episode contains detailed discussion of child abduction, sexual assault, and murder. It includes graphic details about the victim's captivity and death. Listener discretion is strongly advised. In This Episode:The Investigation: How law enforcement conducted a massive three-week search involving hundreds of volunteers, bloodhounds, helicopters, and multiple agencies—while Jessica was hidden just 65 yards from her home the entire time. The Perpetrator: John Evander Couey, a registered sex offender with a history of violence who was living with his sister next door to Jessica, and how systemic failures allowed him to reoffend. The Aftermath: The heartbreaking discovery, Couey's confession, his death before execution, and how Jessica's death led to the creation of Jessica's Law and Jessie's Place Children's Advocacy Center—saving countless children through strengthened protections.Resources: If you or someone you know needs support, please contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or visit www.missingkids.org. Some moments stay with us long after they end. The choice we made. The thing we wish we had said. The image that still lingers when the room goes quiet. Cyra’s story begins with one of those moments, the kind that changes everything and asks who we will become after it. At sixteen, she lost her brother to suicide and carried the guilt of that day for years. Her healing came slowly, through forgiveness and the power of words. Poetry became a place to lay down her pain and listen to something deeper, something that kept whispering that love was still possible. What You’ll Hear How grief can hold both love and regret at once The quiet guidance of a voice that spoke when she needed it most Why poetry became her way to understand pain and healing What it means to forgive a younger version of yourself The long, patient work of turning loss into meaning How creativity can become medicine when nothing else fits Guest Bio Cyra Sweet Dumitru (www.cyrasweetdumitru.com) is an accomplished poet, instructor of poetry writing, and one of four certified practitioners of poetic medicine in Texas. Her poems have appeared on a wall in San Antonio's City Hall and on city buses, been spoken on national radio and in museums, published in newspapers, and featured in anthologies and literary journals. She has four collections of poetry and a memoir, Words Make a Way Through Fire: Healing After My Brother's Suicide, which is told through prose and poetry and was published by She Writes Press and distributed by Simon & Schuster. Have you ever been doing everything right and still felt something was missing? Clay Garrett thought he had built the life he was supposed to have. A stable career, a loving family, all the boxes checked. But when life suddenly stopped, he was invited to see what really mattered. Clay’s story unfolds in the quiet that followed a layoff just before the pandemic. What began as fear became clarity. In that unexpected pause, he found what a good life feels like when presence becomes the priority. This conversation is about slowing down, choosing intention, and discovering that sometimes the hardest endings lead us home to ourselves. What You’ll Hear: The moment a layoff became an unexpected gift How time with family reshaped his understanding of success Learning to be truly present as a husband and father The power of reflection and self-awareness in daily life Building a meaningful life through purpose and simplicity What it means to live by choice instead of habit Guest Bio: Clay Garrett is the founder of Campfire Gentleman, a personal development project that helps men build meaningful lives centered on purpose, family, and personal growth. After 25 years in design and advertising, a COVID-era layoff led Clay to reevaluate his definition of success, ultimately inspiring a new path centered on presence, purpose, and simplicity. Through writing, resources, and honest conversation, he’s creating a space for husbands and fathers who want to slow down and live with intention. In this episode of Capitalism Hits Home, Dr. Harriet Fraad explores how rape and mass murder become some men's reactions to their reduced status as providers for dependent women and children. Men who never recognized the life-sustaining care they received from women are lost and angry. Vulnerability and emotional need are inaccessible for many men. Anger and violence seem like socially accepted masculine ways to reestablish lost economic power and an emotional outlet for loneliness. As this epidemic continues to crescendo with the current administration in power, we must understand the correlations at play and explore ways to curb this unnecessary violence. What if the emptiness you feel despite your success isn't a sign you're broken, but a signal you're ready for something deeper? In this episode, Andrew Anderson, a transformational coach for high-achieving business leaders, shares his remarkable journey from elementary school playground helper to teaching career to becoming the guide that successful entrepreneurs call when they have "problems money can't solve." Through two pivotal relationships, Xavier, a Belgian mentor he met at 19 who still coaches him 21 years later, and Kevin Hall (former VP of Franklin Covey), who saw potential in him during his darkest season. Andrew discovered how to help others move from survival to thriving, from playing defense to playing offense with their lives. From reconnecting with Xavier during his friend's divorce and flipping their mentor-mentee dynamic, to standing in the Virgin River at Zion National Park receiving divine inspiration to write a book that would later save a man's life, Andrew reveals how the right relationships at the right time don't just change your business trajectory but reshape your entire identity and calling. His approach cuts through years of traditional therapy in hours, helping clients rewire neural pathways and reconnect with who they truly are beneath the pain. Andrew reflects on honoring the versions of ourselves that went through hard things, why most people are playing not to lose instead of playing to win, and how a single conversation can absolutely change the trajectory of a career, relationship, or life. Any single conversation absolutely can." - Andrew Anderson (quoting Susan Scott) "You need to honor and respect that version of you because you would not be doing what you're doing and helping who you're helping or anything without having gone through that experience." - Xavier (to Andrew) "You gotta play to win. Don't play not to lose." - Andrew's 76-year-old dad "It's really hard to move forward while you're looking back." - Andrew Anderson "If you want to find yourself, you're gonna have to lose yourself. Each Tuesday, we discuss an older entertainment property, and currently, that's Lost. This episode was a great big fakeout leading to the reveal of another member of the Oceanic Six. Also, Ben's facial trauma makeup artist is back, and Ben still knows how to get Locke's goat. Mentioned: "You gotta see the baby!" on Seinfeld.Next Tuesday, we'll continue with season 4, episode 5, "The Constant." Tomorrow, we'll continue our discussion of a newer show, The Lowdown.
