A biweekly podcast in which noted lesbian enthusiasts Kat and Shay discuss a movie they’ve seen. Maybe the movie is a classic piece of gay cinema. Maybe Ellen Page is in it. Or maybe it just seemed like it would be interesting. For gay reasons.
Episode 8 is about The Intervention (2016), which was written and directed by Clea DuVall. Film discussion starts at 17:16. It’s about an intervention at a fancy cottage. There is relationship drama and also relationship comedy. And a couple of Clea DuVall’s DEBS costars. We play another round of trivia (Kristen Stewart this time) and talk about Hannah Hart’s new book, Buffering. Kat pretends to be besties with Clea DuVall and Shay explores the significance of her own weird dreams. Episode 7 is about D.E.B.S. (2004), the most classic lesbian spy movie. It’s about spies on opposite sides who nonetheless end up falling in love. It’s funny and corny and made us love Jordana Brewster. We also introduce some new segments to the show: a trivia game, and the NEWS. Kat is suspiciously knowledgeable about Ellen Page trivia. Shay manages to talk about Jordana Brewster a LOT. iTunes / Stitcher: Movies We Saw (for gay reasons) soundcloud: soundcloud.com/forgayreasons email: forgayreasons@gmail.com twitter: @forgayreasons tumblr: forgayreasons.tumblr.com
In episode 6 we talk about But I’m a Cheerleader (1999), a hilarious comedy about gay conversion therapy. It’s about gay teens who are sent to camp to become straight. Lots of teen lesbians in close proximity; what could possibly go wrong? Kat has some things to say about the ‘90s and Shay correctly predicts the outcome of the US presidential election. iTunes: Movies We Saw (for gay reasons) soundcloud: soundcloud.com/forgayreasons email: forgayreasons@gmail.com twitter: @forgayreasons tumblr: forgayreasons.tumblr.com
In episode 5 we talk about Freeheld (2015), a film based on an Academy Award-winning short documentary of the same name. It’s a film about real-life gay people who had real-life struggles. Spoiler alert: we did not like it. Maybe try the documentary? Kat expressed her unhealthy obsession with Ellen Page and Shay had some real problems with Steve Carell. iTunes: Movies We Saw (for gay reasons) soundcloud: soundcloud.com/forgayreasons email: forgayreasons@gmail.com twitter: @forgayreasons tumblr: forgayreasons.tumblr.com
