On season 9, episode 3 of Paid in Puke, we've got spirit for Jamie Babbit's 1999 satirical comedy, "But I'm a Cheerleader", starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea Duvall, Melanie Lynskey, Cathy Moriarty, Katharine Towne, Mink Stole, RuPaul, Bud Cort, and for 5 seconds, a Dawson's Creek-era Michelle Williams. Special guest Kate Preusser, managing editor at Lookout Landing* joins us to talk about why this is one of two influential films from her early twenties (the other being Showgirls). Still, Kate had the most Hot Probs, in relation to representation and some of Megan's toxic traits.  Kate also brings to us some Fun Facts, as well as the not-so-fun bad takes from the (mostly cis male) critics of 1999 that saddled this delightful film with a low Rotty T score that persists to this day.  Baxter's offspring joins us on Keggers with Kids, and on the Lunchtime Poll, we reveal things we didn't know about ourselves until someone else pointed it out.   *Lookout Landing is an online Seattle Mariner's baseball community.

Katie and Bridget spread alien conspiracy theories as they re-watch the movie: The Faculty! It's a movie featuring every actor ever (for real) in a sci-fi version of The Breakfast Club! Come along as we watch high schoolers try to survive a parasitic alien invasion that takes down the school's faculty. The aliens also may or may not be contributing to our planet's water crisis as a result - but we digress. Meet our angsty teens: Casey, a pre-Frodo who really needed Sam with him; Stokely, a lesbian who's not a lesbian but maybe should just be a lesbian - ya know?; Delilah, a bully/head cheerleader/newspaper editor/girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/way too many other things; Stan, a sad athlete who kind of just gets treated like crap by everyone; Zeke, a guy who needs a new haircut and a new name; and Marybeth, the new girl/obvious alien queen! Will the teens defeat the aliens with the power of 90's drugs? Does someone's head get ripped off and turn into tentacles!? Released in 1998, this movie features a star studded cast including: Elijah Wood, Clea DuVall, Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Piper Laurie, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Christopher McDonald, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Patrick, Usher (NO REALLY!), and Jon Stewart.

It's still May for a few more hours, but Pride Month starts *now* at Spooky Tuesday. We just couldn't wait — and with a new Fifth Tuesday giving us the chance to cover any movie across all genres, we knew we had to do But I'm A Cheerleader (1999). An instant queer classic, this candy-colored flick is packed full of heart, silliness, and undeniable chemistry between Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall.  Whether you first watched it as a preteen without parental supervision or only saw it after MUNA and Phoebe Bridgers dropped their "Silk Chiffon" music video, it's pretty much consensus that Jamie Babbit's satirical rom-com is required viewing — and if you somehow still haven't seen it, well, we would be honored to make the introduction.   References:https://mubi.com/notebook/posts/visualizing-liberation-in-but-i-m-a-cheerleader-9518https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/clea-duvall-but-im-a-cheerleader-scary-time-1234773201/https://variety.com/2020/film/features/but-im-a-cheerleader-director-jamie-babbit-20th-anniversary-1234842163/https://southseattleemerald.com/2023/02/20/new-moon-movie-night-but-im-a-cheerleader-is-one-of-my-roots/ https://www.them.us/story/but-im-a-cheerleader-transformed-elliot-page-life Behind the Scenes:https://youtu.be/zlaIm9EYfcIDeleted Scenes:https://youtu.be/zOo_vYgdLkohttps://youtu.be/cen8Q0wgGTQTattle Tale - Glass Case Cello Case (aka THE SONG of this movie):https://youtu.be/RzVeKbWaniI"Silk Chiffon" by MUNA:https://youtu.be/fhyk9rchC2c

The cast includes Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Clea Duvall, Usher, and more. Costumes are by Emmy award-winning costume designer Michael T. Boyd, but let's be real, The Faculty is a whole ass commercial for Tommy Hilfiger... We discuss Usher's lawsuit against the fashion brand, Josh Hartnett's iconic hair, the fake gothery of it all, and the entertaining trope of fake drug names in movies. Blaire talks abut how she'd handle being locked away and Marie works through her trauma about all the Tommy Hilfiger in the film. It's a real journey up in here!
