Owen Milne had the best seat in the house during the recent Code Red swell at Teahupoo, and he nearly paid for it with his life. He gives us the best rundown yet of what it was like to be staring mutant slabs in the eyeball from close quarters. Spoiler alert: it was absolute mayhem. Wipeouts, jet ski near misses, paddling and tow surfing clinics, and Doug Silva getting sucked up the guts of a catamaran and nearly turned into mince meat by twin propellers. Owen's raw account of the swell is one of the better depictions of what goes down at Teahupoo when it's 20+ foot and maxing. You can watch it here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's the showdown every family knows too well: Mom vs. Dad. This week on Sheena Interrupted, we're diving into the parenting trenches. This episode of The Higher Standard pulls back the curtain on the Fed's $2 trillion “magic trick” that never makes the headlines. Chris, Saied, and Rajeil break down how the overnight reverse repo facility works like a no-risk money parking garage for banks—one so massive it once held enough cash to buy every home in New York City twice. Add in a little history lesson on the Fed literally locking away gold in the 1930s to keep money out of circulation, and you've got a playbook of hidden levers that shape the economy while the average person is left scratching their head. Spoiler: it's less about Main Street and more about keeping Wall Street on life support.➡️ But this isn't just charts and jargon—expect sushi horror stories, octopus debates, Hulk Hogan controversies, and even a detour into alien tech possibly cruising toward Earth (thanks, Harvard). The crew wrestles with the big question: are these financial maneuvers protecting consumers, or just quietly bailing out the system? Either way, the laughs hit as hard as the lessons. Welcome back to the only financial literacy podcast that can connect the Fed's shadow moves to turtle mating rituals without missing a beat.

I've known Dave Hooper (host of Build a Big Podcast and Author of Big Podcast) since he put on the radio for the first time on Music Business Radio. When I heard that Dave had scored a job at Sirius I wanted the inside scoop on what it's like to work there, and what the heck is a "Producer."Dave explains that he got the job while being in "a funk" and he used that situation to introduce more "real" topics to channel 146 at 7 AM and Road Dog Trucking. I also share one sentence that jumped out at me from the Taylor Swift appearance on the new heights show. Takeaways: Ever wondered what it's like at Sirius Satellite Radio? Well, buckle up, buddy, because David Hooper is here to spill the tea on some wild stories, including a hilarious instance of dead air that'll make you cringe. Seriously, it's gold. So, David's job is basically a mix of five different roles. I mean, booking guests, prepping shows, running the board, cutting promos—what's next, making coffee? It's a circus behind the scenes, folks! We all know live radio can be a hot mess, right? David shares how he's had to dust off some old skills and navigate the chaos of live broadcasting. Spoiler: mistakes happen, and dead air is just part of the fun! Turns out, podcasting and satellite radio aren't that different after all. Both have their own unique challenges, but the real magic lies in connecting with the audience and building that sweet community vibe. David's new gig at Sirius has taught him some serious life skills, like staying calm and collected under pressure. Who knew being a radio producer would be like a masterclass in Zen? At the end of the day, it's all about community and connection. David's show is like a virtual truck stop, bringing people together to chat about everything from addiction to marriage on the road. Seriously, where else can you get that kind of therapy? What would happen if you started showing up like you — exactly as you are — were already enough? In this episode of Empowering Her, I'm getting real about something I call “fix-it culture.” It's the sneaky belief that we (or the people we love) are broken and need repairing before we can live our fullest lives. Spoiler alert: it's an illusion — and it's exhausting. This conversation was sparked by a private coaching session where I kept hearing the phrase “fix it.” It got me thinking about how deeply this mindset is baked into our self-talk, parenting, and even our work as mentors and coaches. So today, we're breaking it down and reframing it completely. Here's what we explore:The illusion of brokenness and how society trains us to believe we're incompleteWhy wholeness is our birthright — we are born with nothing missing and nothing wrongSwapping “fix it” language for “evolve” — the powerful shift from lack to growthA reflection on Coldplay's Fix You and why love isn't about repairThe truth that we can't “fix” anyone — not our kids, not our clients, not our friendsHow parents, coaches, and girls' empowerment leaders can hold space without trying to solve or repairThe impact of modeling self-love and personal evolution instead of perfectionReframe questions to try this week for yourself and the people you leadAnd… I share a little teaser about Book Baby #3, coming out next week! This one is for children and the grown-ups who love them — a beautiful tool for connection you can share with the kids in your life.Let's Stay Connected! As an empowerment coach, author, twin girl mom, and the creator of the GiRLiFE Academy, my mission is to help every woman and girl discover her voice and live a life that lights her up from the inside out.I'd love to connect with you and continue this beautiful journey together!
This week's episode has everything: brownies gone wrong, mice turning into classroom pets, and yes… the day I realized my car had become a rat maternity ward. (Don't eat during that part, teacher besties.) We kick things off with a student cruise that takes a very unexpected turn when a principal tries to “prove a point” with confiscated brownies. Spoiler: it backfired spectacularly. Then, a mouse runs straight into class and one student's reaction is… let's just say not what I would've done. And to balance out the chaos, I sit down with Phil Januszewski, a high-energy youth speaker, about why awkwardness and failing forward might actually be the best gift we can give our students. Takeaways: What happened when a mouse joined senior English — and why one student treated it like a pet. How a field trip brownie left an entire school board scrambling (and a principal very high). Andrea's most cursed car story yet: the discovery of a rat nest… placenta included. Why Phil Januszewski says “embrace the awkward” is the secret to building student confidence. Andrea reflects on how naive teachers (herself included) can be when kids are high right under our noses. Teachers' night out? Yes, please! The Adam Sandler Sports deep dive continues (for some reason) with his remake of the football classic: The Longest Yard! Disgraced pro football quarterback Paul Crewe (Adam Sandler) lands in jail, where manipulative Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) recruits him to advise the institution's team. This turns into a lead role quarterbacking a crew of inmates in a game against a team of prison guards. Aided by incarcerated ex-NFL coach Nate Scarborough (Burt Reynolds), Crewe and his team must overcome not only the bloodthirstiness of the opposition, but also the corrupt officials trying to fix the game against them. This week, Matt and Bob are joined by returning guest Spenser Davis to break down Zach Cregger's Weapons—one of the year's most talked-about horror releases. The trio dig into: How Weapons blends horror, comedy, and social commentary. The Magnolia-style chapter structure—and whether it works or stalls. Memorable moments: from hot dog trays to the film's most brutal death. The allegories beneath the scares—addiction, failed institutions, and the American suburban nightmare. Aunt Gladys as one of horror's most unsettling new villains. Along the way, they compare Weapons to Barbarian, debate the value of metaphors and Easter eggs, and even wander into Resident Evil and Oscar predictions. It's a deep dive into why Cregger has cemented himself as one of the most exciting genre voices working today.

Episode 57 - SPOILER Review: Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)Just when it was starting to look pretty bleak for comic movies (over saturation, becoming extremely dark, forgettable stories, visual effects suffering from unsustainable output stretching visual FX artists too thin), it looks like studios are getting the message. First "Superman" from DC/Warner Brothers and now for today's episode we see how Marvel/Disney with "Fantastic Four: First Steps" has done an about face and put a "fantastic" crowd-pleaser of movie to die-hard comic-fans and popcorn moviegoers alike. For today's episode our friend of the podcast, Ali-Reza Beheshti, returns and we both get into how this movie completely surprised us. A beautifully shot, wonderfully paced, thrill ride of a movie. There was a part that was a little bit of a "stretch" but the movie still was so much fun that you can almost completely let this detail go. Almost. Michael Giacchino returns as Marvel's go-to Composer but here he really crafts something epic and unique on par with John Williams music from classics such as Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. This one must be seen in the theaters. It will make you a believer in comic-book movies again. There is still life in this category of movies. Here is to hoping the studios continue to space these movies out enough to keep the creativity, anticipation, and quality going!"Fantastic Four: First Steps" is playing in theaters now. We've got more episodes, reviews, and recommendations coming your way. If you're enjoying the show, please leave a review, it really helps the podcast. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the movie.
Ever had a week where your job feels like a sitcom, your coffee needs a sidekick, and your GPS points straight into the ocean? Same. In this episode, we navigate three very important subjects with our signature chaos-and-charm combo:Jobs: Work-life “balance” (lol) gets put under the microscope as we trade stories about bosses, burnout, and the bizarre things we've done to look “productive” on Zoom.Kratom: We take a curious detour into the leafy, controversial world of kratom—what it is, why people swear by it, and where it lands on the “this might be fine?” spectrum. The Bermuda Triangle: Buckle up as we float headfirst into conspiracies, vanishings, and why everything weird seems to happen in a triangle. Spoiler: our theories are airtight and absolutely not peer-reviewed.You'll get laughs, hot takes, and the kind of questionable wisdom you can only get from the Black Lincoln Collective. This week, Ben and Rob suffer through War of the Worlds (2025), a baffling “screen life” style disaster starring Ice Cube and directed by Rich Lee. It's a modern retelling of the classic H.G. Wells War Of The Worlds; except instead of tension, thrills, or coherence, we get glitchy video calls, insane leaps of logic, and a lead performance that suggests Ice Cube might secretly be a sociopath. Is War of the Worlds the first alien invasion film to be completely derailed by Zoom windows? Why should director Rich Lee escape this mess blameless, and how did Ice Cube get away with whatever it is he's doing here? And the big one: is this the worst sci-fi movie of the decade? Or in the right context, the most fun you could ever have watching an advert for Amazon? The lads pick apart the wreckage of War of the Worlds (2025), searching for meaning, entertainment, or even a single reason it exists. Spoiler: they don't find one.CONSUUUME to find out all this and much MUCH more!PLUS! Eventually, we'll get "Golden" and "Soda Pop" out of our heads. But for now, we're giving into the insanely catchy delights of "KPop Demon Hunters" on Breakfast All Day. The animated Netflix phenomenon is coming to select theaters for one weekend only, Aug. 23-24, for sing-along showings. Find out here if it's playing near you. Until then, you can catch it streaming and catch up with our catch-up review. We also review "Nobody 2," the sequel to the 2021 action comedy "Nobody." Bob Odenkirk returns with his particular set of skills, but all he wants to do is enjoy a quiet vacation with his family. In theaters. We did Movie News LIVE! for a second week in a row. Lots to discuss as always, including the trailer for "Marty Supreme," Park Chan-wook, Tom Cruise and more. Join us on Fridays at Noon Pacific. And finally, it's our "Weapons" LIVE spoiler chat. We're placing this at the end in case you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to hear us get into it. And we do get into it. Thanks for being here! For this week's main podcast review, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Giovanni Lago & Joseln Safadi join me to review the sequel to 2021's "Nobody," "Nobody 2" starring Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, John Ortiz, RZA, Colin Hanks, Christopher Lloyd, and Sharon Stone. With Indonesian action director Timo Tjahjanto stepping into the director's chair and returning screenwriter Derek Kolstad (along with Aaron Rabin) setting the story in the fictional vacation town of Plummerville, there are enough new elements to warrant a sequel, but how do they all mix together? What did we think of it? Please tune in as we discuss the story, performances, action, comedy, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Gear up for this SPOILER filled review of Death Stranding 2! Guitar battles and dance routines make this game a hard one to pin down, but when dealing with Hideo Kojima, it's usually best to leave all your preconceived motions at the door (as much as you can, I suppose). Watch the video version of this podcast. This podcast contains SPOILERS for The Rehearsal Season 2 on HBO.The Rehearsal Season 2 chronicles Nathan Fielder's attempts to understand why aviation accidents happen. According to Fielder, one major factor is that pilots are unwilling to communicate candidly with each other, especially when they disagree or have bad news to deliver. To test this theory, Fielder used his resources from The Rehearsal to create a fictional(?) aviation-themed singing competition called Wings of Voice. In this competition, pilots judged singers performances, advanced the ones they liked, and were forced to break the bad news to some contestants that they were eliminated. The idea was that by forcing them to break singers' hearts, the process would reveal something about what it takes to be a good communicator.I used a “(?)” next to “fictional” above because even though contestants on Wings of Voice were occasionally made the butt of the joke on The Rehearsal and the competition never aired as its own TV show, the winner of the competition still received something of value: the privilege of performing a song for HBO's audience on national television.Today I'm speaking with the winner of that competition, Isabella Henao. As a fellow musician, I thought Henao crushed her performance of Evanescence's “Bring Me To Life” in the culminating moments of season two. And as someone who is endlessly fascinated by how much of Fielder's stunts are “real,” I was thrilled to get an insider's perspective on what it's like to go through Fielder's shenanigans as they happen. Henao spoke with me about what it was like to go through the audition process, what contestants were actually told about what was happening, what other contestants' thought about the whole thing, and how being on The Rehearsal changed her life. This interview has been edited and condensed for brevity and clarity. To listen to a fuller version of the conversation, check out the podcast/video above. If you want to learn more about Isabella, check out her website. Hosted on Acast.
