This video will inform Mississippi teachers about the stages of English language acquisition, what to expect at each stage, and what strategies are particularly effective in each stage. Suggested classroom assessment accommodations also will be provided, along with information on factors that can affect the rate of language acquisition.

Transitioning from pre-k to kindergarten is a big step for many children. Pre-k teachers can support the transition by passing along useful information to the kindergarten teachers. This information can be used by the new teachers to start the school year with a basic understanding of each child’s personal and academic profile. To assist school districts in preparing kindergarten teachers, the MDE has put together a pre-k to kindergarten transition plan.
