Mission Statement :The Por Vida/For Life Media Youth Collective provides a brave space for storytellers, journalists, filmmakers and broadcasters to share stories. We create content centered on restorative and transformative justice practices in order for our communities to continue healing and growing together. Description of Project:The Por Vida/For Life Media Youth Collective and Families Listening to You (F.L.Y.) present a new series every Monday night at 6pm on KQBH 101.5 FM and streaming on the worldwide web at www.lpfm.la. The purpose of our hotline is to break the informational and emotional barriers that state and system officials create between incarcerated and detained individuals, their communities and the public. This project brings light to the dangerous conditions of confinement during COVID-19 from the voices and perspectives of those detained. With the consent of incarcerated individuals who call the hotline, we record and transcribe their personal testimonies and insight regarding the injustices of two overlapping pandemics: COVID-19, and the mass incarceration of Black and brown Angelinos.
