Refusing to Drown is about courage, tenacity, and the strength to beat insurmountable adversity. It is about taking your life, your joy, and your serenity back if it has been taken away by trauma or other life events. It is about untangling the weeds that hold you back, so you can live a life that is happy, joyous, and free. I am going beyond alcoholism, addiction, and recovery and getting to the root of what gets people to that point and more importantly, how they beat it and transformed their lives because of it. Join me on the road as I seek out others who are Refusing to Drown.
Let me take you on a road trip through the desert Southwest. There, I will encounter some interesting characters, cry a river of long overdue tears, and experience one near-death experience in the Grand Canyon. Where will this lead? To a massive awakening that I have only read about in books. Yes, it happened to me. It can happen to you, too.
Recovery is not a linear process. There are many slips and falls along the way for chronic alcoholics like me. In this episode, I paint the grim picture of how relapse happens and shed light on my own sex addiction as a result of sexual trauma. More importantly, I start to see the light. Spiritual awakenings do not happen overnight, but they do happen. This is the beginning of mine!
In this episode, I talk about how I wound up in the psych ward. How pharmaceuticals fed to me by negligent shrinks caused me to nearly take my life. And how something said to me on Shark Tank changed the trajectory of my life, forever. This is part 2 of my "refusing to drown" story. Healing from trauma and addiction is absolutely possible, I am living proof. If I can survive the shit-tornado of life, and do so with grace, so can you!
In episode one of Refusing to Drown, I begin to tell my own story of spiritual sensitivity, sexual abuse, and early addiction patterns. But this is only part of the story. There is a happy ending on the other end that will inspire you beyond belief. We ALL have a refusing to drown story, this one just happens to be mine. Hopefully, by sharing it with other people struggling through the rapids of life, I can extend a life preserver along the way. We all need that from time to time. Recovery from alcoholism, addiction, sexual trauma, and LIFE is indeed possible, and I am living proof! Subscribe to know when episode two is released - there IS a happy ending!
