Episode Summary In this Bible teaching from 1 Corinthians 10:12–13, Bobby Bosler places two familiar verses back into Paul's warning against idolatry and compromise. The Corinthians could excuse disobedience either by assuming they were already standing or by believing their circumstances left them no way to obey. This episode calls young people to reject both pride and despair, flee compromise, surrender to Jesus Christ, and depend on the faithful God who always provides grace to obey. Topics Discussed The Corinthian context of idol participation and personal rights Israel's wilderness failures as a warning to believers Spiritual pride and the danger of merely thinking you stand Hidden compromise beneath an outwardly godly appearance Why temptation is common rather than uniquely hopeless God's faithfulness, control, and promised way of escape Surrender to Christ and dependence on the Holy Spirit Key Takeaways Outward spirituality does not excuse hidden areas of disobedience. Pride says no correction is needed, while despair says obedience is impossible. No temptation makes you uniquely abandoned or beyond God's care. God remains faithful and provides the strength either to escape temptation or endure it obediently. Victory comes through surrender to Christ and dependence on the Holy Spirit, not self-confidence. Stop justifying compromise and obey the truth God has already made clear. If you've been encouraged by this podcast, please take the time to give us a five-star rating and write a brief review. While we do not create objective reality itself, we do create our personal experience of reality through the psychological filters formed by our past experiences. Every event that we resist or cling to becomes an internal impression that shapes future perceptions and strengthens the ego’s preferences about how life should unfold. Spiritual freedom comes from letting experiences pass through without resistance, and allowing consciousness to experience life directly, openly, and joyfully as it unfolds in the present moment. © Sounds True Inc. What happens when the person you've always been no longer feels like the person you're becoming? In this deeply thoughtful coaching session, Christine works with Gihan, who is navigating the space between her cultural and familial identity and the life her soul feels called to create. Living with her mother in Cairo, Gihan has been on a healing journey that has challenged old patterns of people-pleasing and encouraged her to question what she truly wants. She feels drawn toward a simpler life—possibly living abroad, spending more time near the beach, and creating a life that feels authentic to her. But that desire brings up a difficult question: Does she genuinely want a different life, or is she simply trying to escape the discomfort of becoming a different version of herself? As Christine and Gihan explore that question, the conversation moves into belonging, identity, family, spirituality, and the tension that can arise when your soul seems to be pulling you in a direction that looks different from the life, culture, or expectations you were born into. Christine offers an important reframe: transformation doesn't always have to be an either/or decision. Sometimes the path forward is both/and—honoring where you came from while also remaining loyal to where your soul is leading you. If you've ever felt caught between who you've been and who you're becoming, questioned whether following your truth means leaving something—or someone—behind, or struggled to honor both your spirituality and your humanity, this conversation will resonate. Press play to discover how you can follow your soul without abandoning the human parts of you that still need belonging, compassion, and connection. Consider / Ask Yourself Do you feel caught between the identity you've always known and the person you're becoming? Are you questioning whether a desire for change is intuition—or an attempt to escape discomfort? Do you fear that choosing your own path could cost you belonging, connection, or approval? Where are you thinking in either/or terms when a both/and approach may be possible? Key Insights and A-Ha's Transformation often requires a period of not fully knowing who you're becoming. Choosing a different path can activate a primal fear of losing belonging. Your soul's desires and your human needs don't have to be mutually exclusive. Spiritual growth doesn't require bypassing difficult human emotions like judgment, fear, jealousy, or uncertainty. Authenticity isn't about becoming a perfect version of yourself—it's about becoming more genuine. Our judgments can become powerful teachers when we get curious about what they're reflecting back to us. How to Deepen the Work Notice when you're framing a decision as either/or and ask whether there's a both/and possibility. When judgment arises, practice acknowledging it without shame and asking what it may be showing you about yourself. Offer compassion to the human parts of you that feel afraid when your soul calls you toward something unfamiliar. Give yourself permission to be in the middle of transformation without needing to immediately define your new identity. Have you ever read a passage of Scripture and felt completely lost? The idea that the Bible is written at a level an elementary-age child can comprehend may be true of its central message — that God loves us and has provided a way back to Himself through Jesus — but anyone who has worked through the book of Leviticus, wrestled with apocalyptic prophecy, or landed in an unfamiliar epistle knows that some passages require more than a quiet moment and good intentions. They require community. The story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch is not often cited as a key discipleship text, but it captures something essential about how God designed His Word to be understood. An Ethiopian official, returning from worship in Jerusalem, was reading Isaiah 53 aloud — a Messianic passage he genuinely could not interpret without help. Philip, prompted by the Spirit, approached him and asked if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch's response is honest and beautiful: how can I, unless someone explains it to me? That willingness to ask opened the door to a conversation that led to his salvation and baptism. Spiritual knowledge is transferable. God's Word is meant to be studied in community. And whether we are new to the faith and need someone to explain what we are reading, or we are seasoned believers with something to give, every one of us has a role to play in helping others understand the timeless truths of Scripture. Today's Bible Verse "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him."— Acts 8:31, NIV Ponder Today There is no shame in asking for help understanding Scripture. The Ethiopian eunuch was a man of significant position and faith, and he openly admitted he needed someone to explain what he was reading. That honesty opened the door to life-changing truth. Spiritual knowledge is transferable — and sharing it is a privilege. God has gifted men and women throughout the body of Christ with the ability to rightly interpret and unpack Scripture. Believers with mature faith are called to invest that knowledge in others (Titus 2:3-4; Ephesians 4:12-13). God's Word is designed to be studied in community. Making disciples involves active, engaged Bible study together. Commentaries, sermons, conversations with other believers, and corporate worship are all legitimate and valuable tools for growing in understanding. Listen when the Holy Spirit prompts you to come alongside someone. Philip could have kept walking. Instead, he obeyed the Spirit's nudge, asked a simple question, and participated in one of the most significant evangelistic encounters recorded in Acts. God's Word never returns empty. Not every conversation will produce instant, visible results the way Philip's did. But Isaiah 55:11 assures us that what God's Word goes out to accomplish, it will accomplish — in His timing and according to His purpose. A Prayer for You Today Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for the gift of the body of believers. How wonderful to know that when I accepted Christ, I was adopted into a family of faith. Help me embrace the gifts of community Bible study, corporate worship, and personal Scripture reading. When I have questions or am wrestling with the text, I ask that the Holy Spirit guide and direct me to proper understanding and application. And when I see others who need support, may I come alongside them and impart biblical wisdom. Help us to humbly serve one another through teaching, discipleship, service, and love. In Jesus' name, Amen. Don't Miss an Episode If today's prayer stirred a desire to go deeper in God's Word alongside other believers, we'd love to stay connected. Both modern quantum physics and ancient spirituality point to a universe arising from an underlying field of energy. Spirituality goes one step further: the source of that field is an omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient field of consciousness. It is that very consciousness that is observing our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Human suffering begins when we resist what we are experiencing, store those resisted impressions, and build a self-concept around what we have stored. Spiritual growth comes through learning to relax through life’s experiences without resistance, letting impressions pass through rather than storing them, and thereby allowing consciousness to return to its natural state of freedom, unity, and divine awareness. © Sounds True Inc. Today's Bible Verse: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture." — Luke 8:5–6 (NIV) The Parable of the Sower is one of Jesus' most familiar teachings, yet its message is just as challenging today as it was for His first listeners. At first glance, the story seems to be about a farmer and his seed. But Jesus uses this simple illustration to reveal a much deeper truth about the condition of our hearts and how we respond to God's Word. Not every seed takes root because not every heart is prepared to receive it. Some people hear God's truth but quickly dismiss it. Others receive it with excitement, only to fall away when life becomes difficult. Jesus invites us to look beyond the surface and ask an important question: What kind of soil is my heart? We're back with Rev. Rachel for week three of our Spiritual Rhythms series, and this week we're talking about one of our absolute favorite things — Scripture. But maybe not in the way you're used to engaging it. Here's something worth sitting with: most of us who love the Bible tend to engage it almost entirely through our heads. We study it, analyze it, cross-reference it — and that is genuinely wonderful. But there's a whole other way of being in Scripture that most of us in the evangelical tradition have barely touched, and it's actually one of the oldest Christian practices in existence. It's called lectio divina — divine reading — and it's been around for about 1,700 years. Long before the printing press, long before people could read their own Bibles, Christians were using this practice to actually experience and be formed by Scripture, not just informed by it. And today, Nicole and Rev. Rachel walk you through it live, using Psalm 119:9–16. Here's how it works: the passage is read four times, slowly. The first time, you just listen. The second time, you notice what word or phrase sticks with you. The third time, you ask the Holy Spirit how it connects to your life right now. And the fourth time, you ask God how He's inviting you to respond. What you're looking for at the end isn't more information — it's peace. It's the gentle conviction or comfort of the Spirit meeting you right where you are. We also talk about the digital fast from last week — and why your phone might be revealing more about where you actually place your trust than you'd like to admit. (Pro tip from Rev. Rachel's college students: buy an old school alarm clock. Seriously.) And the core idea we keep coming back to all series long: right pace creates right perspective. When we slow down enough to let Scripture read us — not just the other way around — something shifts. That's the invitation this week. Check out my free download to walk through these practices together:https://nicoleunice.kit.com/spiritualpractices This Week's Practice: Lectio DivinaTry it yourself with Psalm 119:9–16 — read it four times, slowly: Read 1 — Just listen. Let the words wash over you. Read 2 — What word, phrase, or image sticks with you? Read 3 — Ask the Holy Spirit: how does this connect to my life right now? Read 4 — Ask God: how are you inviting me to respond? Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
