Is death the end? Millions have felt the departed reach out, but skepticism remains.Grief psychologist and homicide survivor Dr. Jan Canty offers a deeply investigated, compassionate, and affirming exploration of spontaneous after-death communications (ADCs) by blending decades of clinical experience, personal insights, and riveting stories that counter the stigma of this almost-universal phenomenon. As a clinical psychologist, Jan Canty did not believe in ADCs, even after she experienced one when her husband was brutally murdered. But she could not ignore countless stories from her patients and podcast interviewees as they poured in. A presence, vivid dreams, timely signs—these moments comfort, heal, and assure us that death does not terminate; it transforms. For those mourning, providing grief support, or wondering what awaits them on the other side, Rekindled builds a vital bridge between personal experience and science by:Illuminating the historical, scientific, and cultural shifts that shape our understanding of ADCsExploring how ADCs promote healing and restore connectionIntegrating insights from neuroscience and physicsHighlighting a gap in grief intervention tactics and offering practical tools to caregivers and mental health providersSharing firsthand accounts so no one feels alone in what they've seen, heard, or feltRekindled sheds light on the one experience that connects us all. This is a must-read for fans of Dr. Eben Alexander's Proof of Heaven, and an accessible and needed resource for the grieving, as well as counselors and psychologists, hospice workers, death doulas, and clergy.BioA native Detroiter, Jan Canty, PhD, is a psychologist, writer, photographer, educator, consultant, and cancer survivor. She holds a terminal degree in psychology as well as a post-doctoral fellowship from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Canty has taught psychology at all levels—from community college students to postdoctoral interns. She worked as a forensic psychologist in a large mental hospital for several years. Dr. Canty was awarded Faculty of the Year in her second year of teaching graduate school. She received awards for her photography. Life circumstances delivered her to be uniquely qualified to address surviving murder both from a professional and a personal viewpoint. This is the underpinning of her true- crime memoir, A Life Divided (in print and audiobook formats). Her second book, What Now? Navigating the Aftermath of Homicide and Suicide is a reference book. It is the book she wished she had as a new widow. Dr. Canty also launched a podcast for other homicide survivors entitled Domino Effect of Murder in 2020, now heard in fourteen countries, wherein some guests cautiously told their stories for the first time. Others were already center stage, such as Cook County sheriff's lead investigator, Detective Jason Moran, who works to find answers for families awaiting word on the murders committed by serial murderer John Wayne Gacey. In August of About the Author 253 2019, she was the only nonlaw enforcement guest to speak at the International Association for Identification, the oldest and largest forensic association in the world. In addition, she has been a contributor to Death Investigator Magazine, a digital publication for the death- investigator community. Dr. Canty also administers a private Facebook group (Homicide Survivors and Thrivers) for survivors struggling with grief after homicide. These endeavors opened a rich network of consultants who've generously con tributed to this book. Dr. Canty has appeared as a guest on many podcasts both in the United States and internationally. She presently lives and works (as a consultant) for the federal government and spends her free time with her family, friends, and two Saint Bernards, and continuing her photography, gardening, writing, and traveling.https://jancantyphd.com/https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2Q1WV3W https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlifeMy book 'Verified Near Death Experiences' https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXKRGDFP Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. You're doing what needs to be done. And yet, beneath the surface, there's a quiet heaviness, fatigue, irritability, or restlessness that won't fully settle. In this episode, I talk about why that feeling isn't failure — it's information. Through a faith-centered and functional wellness lens, we explore how misalignment shows up spiritually, emotionally, and physically, especially for midlife women who lead, care deeply, and carry a lot of responsibility. In this episode, I share: Why misalignment is often subtle and builds slowly over time How Scripture affirms the importance of paying attention to what's happening inside us What spiritual misalignment looks like (and why it's not a lack of faith) How emotional over-responsibility contributes to exhaustion and resentment Why the body often speaks before the mind catches up How chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation show up physically Why midlife amplifies feelings of being “off” How misalignment is an invitation from God, not an accusation Gentle reflection questions to help you discern where realignment may be needed This episode is for women who are tired of pushing through and ready to listen — to their bodies, their hearts, and God's gentle guidance. Misalignment isn't a failure. It's often the beginning of wisdom. I hope this episode blesses you! Spending Decisions Are Spiritual Decisions with Dr. Kelly Rush

Spending decisions aren't just financial—they reveal what, and whom, we value. That was the central insight Dr. Kelly Rush shared in today's conversation on Faith & Finance, where she unpacked the Old Testament story of Jonah through the lens of money and stewardship.Dr. Rush, Professor of Finance and Financial Planning at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, explained that Jonah's story isn't only about a prophet running from God. It's also a revealing case study in how financial choices often mirror the condition of the heart. Her core conviction is simple but challenging: every spending decision is a spiritual decision.According to Dr. Rush, money functions like a mirror. It reflects what we care about, what we trust, and what direction our hearts are moving. That principle, she noted, is woven throughout Scripture—and Jonah provides a surprisingly clear example. Many readers miss the fact that money appears twice in Jonah's short book. The first instance comes right at the beginning. When God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh, Jonah runs in the opposite direction. Scripture tells us that he paid the fare to board a ship to Tarshish. Dr. Rush noted that this is one of the few passages in the Bible where the cost of travel is explicitly mentioned. The detail matters. Jonah didn't just flee spiritually—he financed his rebellion. Running from God came at a financial cost. That decision didn't affect Jonah alone. When God sent a storm, the sailors were forced to throw their valuable cargo overboard to save their lives. Dr. Rush emphasized that poor stewardship rarely stays contained. Our financial and spiritual misalignment often impacts others—families, churches, workplaces, and communities. At the same time, she noted, faithful stewardship creates ripple effects of blessing. The story then turns. In Jonah chapter two, inside the fish, Jonah repents. He cries out to God and vows obedience. This time, Dr. Rush explained, Jonah's “payment” isn't money but repentance and follow-through. When Jonah's heart is realigned, his response changes as well. Repentance redirects both priorities and spending.Dr. Rush connected that pattern to modern life. Faithful follow-through today, she said, looks like honoring a budget, keeping commitments to generosity, giving as worship rather than obligation, and acting with honesty and integrity in saving, investing, and repaying debt. These practices aren't merely financial—they're spiritual expressions of trust and obedience.Budgets, Dr. Rush explained, tell a story. They put dollars and cents to what we prioritize and reveal whether we're seeking God's Kingdom or quietly running from Him. That can be uncomfortable—but it's also hopeful. Jonah's story is full of second chances. God didn't give up on Jonah, and financial mistakes don't disqualify us either.Dr. Rush closed with a practical starting point: begin with prayer, intentionally place generosity at the top of the budget, invite wise counsel, and remember that spending decisions are always spiritual decisions. Money tells a story—but by God's grace, it can be a story shaped for His glory. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:When I think of investing, I think of putting money into something that helps it grow. If I buy a stock that doesn't pay dividends, it can feel more like a speculative bet—just hoping the price goes up. Even if I'm a passive investor and don't benefit until I sell, does owning that stock actually help the company grow in a meaningful way, making it more of an actual investment rather than a bet?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)Wisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions every workday at (800) 525-7000. Setting goals for the new year often focuses on achievement, productivity, and personal growth—but Proverbs 16:3 reminds us that lasting transformation begins with surrendering our hearts to God. When we commit our plans, desires, and direction to the Lord, He shapes not only what we do but who we are becoming, aligning our goals with His purposes and power. Highlights God is more concerned with who you are becoming than what you accomplish. Committing your plans to God starts with aligning your heart with His. Many goals fail when they rely on personal strength instead of God’s power. The Holy Spirit works from the inside out, transforming character as goals are pursued. Spiritual growth flows from becoming, not just doing. Jesus shaped His disciples through relationship before responsibility. God establishes plans by shaping them to fit His good purposes, even when they change. Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Set Your Heart, Not Just Your GoalsBy: Whitney Hopler Bible Reading:“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3, NIV When a new year starts, it’s natural to think about goals. You may want to set some New Year’s resolutions to start some new habits, or at least make plans for the year ahead. While it’s good to want to set and achieve new goals, it’s important to focus on more than just accomplishing a list of tasks. God wants you to focus less on doing and more on becoming. God cares far more about who you are than what you check off a list. Proverbs 16:3 highlights a simple yet significant truth: If you commit what you do to God, he will establish your plans. The key is first committing your plans to God. You can only do that if your heart is lined up with God’s heart. When you “commit to the LORD whatever you do,” you’re not just handing God your goals; you’re handing God your whole self. That choice opens the door for God to transform you and lead you into plans that are really the best plans for you. Maybe that’s why so many New Year’s resolutions fall apart a few weeks into the year. It’s hard to make much progress on goals if you’re relying only on your own limited power to achieve them. But if you’re relying on God’s unlimited power to help you achieve goals God wants for you, you’ll experience the Holy Spirit empowering you to accomplish those goals in any kind of circumstances. The Spirit’s power works from the inside out, so in the process of working toward your goals, you’ll be transformed as a person. This year, instead of asking yourself what you want to accomplish, ask God who he wants you to become. Think of your goals less as what to do and more as how to be. How does God want to strengthen your character during this new year? Do you sense God calling you to be more courageous, patient, joyful, kind, generous, or trusting? When you focus on becoming, the doing naturally follows. Habits flow from the heart. So, your goals will flow from the kind of person you are becoming, with God’s help. Jesus didn’t start by giving his disciples tasks; he started by inviting them to follow him. Walking closely with Jesus changed who they were long before it shaped what they did. Their lives were transformed from the inside out. God wants to do the same with you! So, this new year, bring your goals to God, but bring your heart first. Ask God how he wants you to learn and grow this year so you can become the person he wants you to become. Then listen. Be open and willing to take slow, steady steps closer to God throughout this year and beyond. When Proverbs 16:3 says God “will establish your plans,” it means God will shape them so they match his good purposes for your life. It doesn’t mean everything will go exactly how you imagined. Some plans will unfold beautifully. Some will change unexpectedly. Some will be put on hold. Some will lead you into places you never thought you’d go. But when you set your heart in the right place with God, you’ll fulfill all the important purposes for your life. This year, don’t pressure yourself to achieve everything you want all at once. Instead, set your heart before God and let him shape you. Focus not on trying harder, but on trusting God more. The more you build a closer relationship with God, the more your own goals will line up with God’s goals for you. Give God your year, and look forward to how he blesses your heart! Intersecting Faith & Life: As you consider how it’s important to set your heart on God to set the best goals, reflect on these questions: What goals have you made in the past that focused more on doing rather than becoming? What qualities do you sense God wants to grow in you this year? Are there any plans or expectations you need to surrender to God today? What would it look like for you to “commit to the LORD whatever you do” day by day? How does knowing that God establishes your plans give you peace or confidence? There's a question I hear often — both in the therapy room and in conversations about faith: Why does my healing matter? Why does change feel so hard, and sometimes even unnecessary? This week on Faith & Feelings, I invite us to explore why healing isn't separate from spiritual formation, but one of the primary ways God's transforming work takes shape in us. Together, we'll reflect on how healing shapes who we're becoming, expands our capacity for love, and changes how we show up in our relationships. This trailer introduces our next series, “Why Does My Healing Matter?”, and invites us to get curious about our own inner lives — not as a self-improvement project, but as a response to God's ongoing work within us. Thought-provoking quotes: “We do this work to become fierce, tender lovers of God, others, and ourselves.” - Mary Ellen Owen “When we tend to our own healing, we stop unconsciously asking others to carry the weight of our unresolved pain.” - Taylor Joy Murray "Inner work and healing are not distractions from sanctification. Humans were built for language and communication. It's one of the bits of creative genius God used when He formed His highest creation. And apart from regular communication, whether it's the written word or verbal, we have a great gift from a loving God: prayer.Prayer is an intensely personal way to communicate with our Creator, the One who knows everything about us.Jeremiah 29:12 says, “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you.”All through scripture, we see that God is available to us all the time. No regular hours or standing meetings. We can talk to Him anytime we want. There are 650 recorded prayers in the Bible, and we read about people praying while sitting, standing, kneeling, with faces to the ground or hands lifted up.By the way, amen means “let it be,” or “so be it.”The word appears for the first time in Numbers 5:22.Since prayer is human communication with God, we see that the first prayers were way back in Genesis 3 and 4 when Adam and Eve, and later Cain, talked with God. In the second exchange, even though Cain was angry and had just killed his brother, he was having a conversation with God.Jesus famously modeled prayer in Luke 11, and notice that He was talking to God the Father. It can be a fine line when thinking about how prayer is initiated. Often, thoughts come to our minds, or we're reminded to pray for someone. However, there's an indication that God prompts us to talk with Him.Galatians 4:6, that from our hearts we cry out, “Abba Father,” and that the indwelling spirit of the Lord prompts this in us. Of all the great gifts God has given us, prayer is one of the most special. It's how our spirits commune with the One who loves us with perfect love. And He's always ready and waiting to hear from us.Let's pray.Father God, we worship you for who you are. We love you, and thank you for loving us. Thank you for making a way for us to talk with you about the things that lie hidden in our hearts. In Jesus' name, amen.Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Spiritual growth doesn't happen by accident. Just like our physical health requires regular checkups, our spiritual lives need honest evaluation and intentional care.In this message, we're invited to pause and examine where we truly are with God. Using Scripture as our guide, we walk through key areas of spiritual health including salvation, time with God, worship, community, serving, and generosity. The goal isn't guilt or comparison. The goal is growth. This sermon challenges us to ask better questions as we begin a new year. Not “Did I attend?” or “Did I look spiritual?” but “Am I actually growing?” Following Jesus means regularly examining our lives and choosing practices that help us mature in wisdom, faith, and obedience. If you want 2026 to be different spiritually, it starts with an honest self-check and a willingness to grow on purpose.Connect with us!Missioncity.church

Are you looking for a community of spiritually minded people? Tune in for an inspiring discussion with founder Sylvia Leifheit on the hot new app SPINE The Spiritual Network. Moments with Marianne airs in the Southern California area on KMET1490AM & 98.1 FM, an ABC Talk News Radio Affiliate!  https://www.kmet1490am.comSylvia Leifheit is the founder and visionary behind SPINE – The Spiritual Network, the first social media platform founded by a woman that puts the soul at the center. A former actress and media entrepreneur, Sylvia created SPINE as a global hub where seekers and holistic healers finally find each other—instantly, credibly, and without noise. In a world that prizes cars, status, and speed over mental, emotional, and spiritual health, the wisdom of healers is undervalued and too often invisible. SPINE changes that. The app makes healers visible and accessible, worldwide in 175 countries and 3 languages, giving people one place to discover guidance, book support, and grow with like-minded community. https://www.spine.app/enFor more show information visit: https://www.mariannepestana.com/
