This week I'm talking to Nancy Rynes about her Near Death Experience.Nancy Rynes was riding her bicycle when a large SUV approached. The vehicle's driver, absorbed in texting while driving, plowed right into Rynes.Suffering from severe spinal and head injuries, Rynes knew she was dying. At that moment, she underwent the first of two life-changing near-death experiences—her consciousness split between her frightened, injured self laying on the road, and an impartial, peaceful observer-consciousness who watched as first responders fought to keep her alive. Her second, more lengthy near-death experience came days later, during the surgery that attempted to repair her traumatized spine.Rynes, a scientist and confirmed skeptic, was shown the wonders of Heaven, experiencing joy, love, and beauty on such a grand scale that she wept at its magnitude. She then met and spoke with a Being who gave her insights into life, love, and the wonders of Spirit. After her tour of Heaven, she was returned to her body to begin the long, slow process of recovering from injuries her surgeon affirms should have killed her.In her book 'Awakenings from the Light', Rynes recounts the amazing sights of Heaven, and explains the remarkable insights into life she returned with to share with others. The skepticism remained until January of 2014, when the Divine gave me a wake-up call: an opportunity to return to Spirit! Spiritual danger isn’t always obvious. Just like something hidden in plain sight, the greatest threats to our faith are often unseen. Scripture reminds us that we have a real enemy who prowls like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. While we may not physically see spiritual warfare, it is very real. This devotional calls us to awareness—not fear. We are not left defenseless. God has equipped us with spiritual armor and given us His Word, His Spirit, and the advocacy of Jesus Christ. When the enemy whispers lies, Jesus stands as our Advocate, declaring us forgiven and redeemed. When accusations try to overwhelm us, Christ’s finished work silences them. Spiritual attacks can come through suffering, discouragement, temptation, doubt, or isolation. That’s why we are urged to stay alert and sober-minded. But vigilance doesn’t mean panic—it means standing firm in faith. The Lion of Judah has already triumphed over the prowling lion. We walk through life aware of the battle, but confident in the victory. God promises that after we have suffered for a little while, He Himself will restore, strengthen, and make us steadfast. Philippians 1:6, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”There's a great practical application in scripture. These old words that are always new were not meant to be just some nice thing to say. God does what He says he will do. If you feel like you have no way out of your troubles today, tell God that. Remember the scriptural promises and remind yourself that countless people have done the same and come out okay on the other side. Don't give up, and see what the Lord will do. Let's pray. Lord, we give you our fear and our uncertainty. We can't cope with the situation we're in alone, but we trust you to give us strength not to quit. We believe for the victory over these circumstances, and God, we find rest in your mercies. How can we parent our daughters to embrace her body as a gift from God?   It's important to let a girl enjoy beauty rather than shame her for wanting to feel pretty.
