Happy New Year! New Year's stuff is beneficial in several things. We make resolutions and we might even stick to some of them. But it's what God does that really matters. He's in the renewal business—making broken things whole again, especially people. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he's a new creation. The old has passed away and behold the new has come.” It's great for us when this involves repaired relationships or even a career boost. Yet this vital truth matters most in our relationships with Him. God fashions relationships that are sustainable over time, and the Gospel is the essence of this truth. If you feel empty, call on Jesus who's ready to make you clean, and take away your guilt and shame. One day He will restore the whole creation to its original, perfect state. But in the meantime, He will look at you with love, put His hand on your heart, and offer you eternity. If you're wondering what the new year has for you, set your sights higher. Think bigger. Step into your future this year with a real sense of who you are in Christ. He's waiting for you to come to Him for the rest you've needed for a long time. The new has come. Let's pray. Lord, thank you for the fresh start that only you can bring. Emotional abuse in a Christian marriage doesn't just damage your mental health. It corrodes your spiritual foundation until you can't tell the difference between God's voice and your abuser's voice anymore.

In this episode, I explore terminal lucidity, a little-known but well-documented phenomenon that occurs near the end of life. Terminal lucidity describes the sudden return of clear thinking, memory, communication, and personal awareness in people who were previously unable to show these abilities because of severe brain disease or injury. This can happen hours or days before death and has been reported in people with advanced dementia, long-term psychiatric illness, brain tumours, strokes, and serious brain damage.What makes terminal lucidity especially important is that it appears in individuals whose brains are believed to be physically incapable of producing normal consciousness. In many cases, the brain damage is extensive and has been present for years. Recovery is not expected. Yet the person may suddenly recognise loved ones, speak clearly, remember names and events, and show their usual personality again.In this episode, I examine terminal lucidity through the idea that consciousness may exist independently of the brain, with the brain acting as a receiver or filter rather than a generator. Fast forward 30 years, he found himself in a psychiatric ward after a suicide attempt, feeling unworthy and broken.In the depths of crisis, Chris Morris shares a pivotal moment when he sensed God telling him, “Chris, I still love you.” Initially, he argued with this gentle assurance, convinced he wasn't worthy of love. Over time, however, this truth took root: if God still saw value in him at his lowest, perhaps his own self-perception was deeply flawed.A recurring theme is the negative impact of judgmental or dismissive church environments. Chris recounts how a pastor once told him, “Man up and pray more,” reinforcing guilt and isolation. In contrast, his current church responded with compassion and affirmation, restoring his hope and sense of belonging. He highlights the critical role of the “ministry of presence”—simply being with someone in their pain, without trying to fix them or offer platitudes. Support is less about having answers and more about empathy, presence, and genuine curiosity. Being a safe, nonjudgmental companion can offer hope and healing.Chris shares practical tools for managing destructive thought patterns, such as asking reflective questions: Is this thought necessarily true? What else might be true? What should I do in response? What might God be doing right now? These questions help reframe negative self-talk and encourage a posture of grace toward oneself.
