Unjust Stewards

The Parable of the Unjust Steward is a parable that has puzzled people for generations. What is Jesus trying to tell us in this story about a world that is falling apart and a man who takes advantage of the situation? In this episode and in his sermon, Thomas argues that one message he takes from it is that when the world is in crisis, the situation often calls for decisive, cunning action. The climate crisis the world is dealing with now is resulting in dramatic declines in animal populations, increasing damage to habitats and a reduction in the quality of life for millions around the world. What decisive action should we be taking and calling for? Visit vinestreet.org for more information about how Vine Street is working to make their community more just. Lost and Found

If you had 100 sheep and you lost 1...would you abandon the 99 to save the 1? It's a complex question that Jesus asks in this week's episode. It brings to bear questions of how far we're willing to love and how willing we are to let ourselves be found. How do we love our oppressors when we see everyday the destruction they bring to our communities local and abroad? How do we come to terms with an everlasting and unbreakable love shown to us by the Lord? Click here for full sermon audio and text. Each week we speak with Reverend Dr. Thomas Klienert, pastor of Vine Street Christian Church, digging a little deeper into the text and subtext in his weekly sermon. In this episode Thomas and Michael react in the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School in February of 2018. Thomas shares his thought process behind including a different angle on the story of the Good Samaritan and how it's connected to the oft-mocked tradition of public figures asking for "thoughts and prayers." What role should the church play to bring about healing and change in the aftermath of these acts that strike at our sense of safety and deepen our cynicism. Each week we speak with Reverend Dr. Thomas Klienert, pastor of Vine Street Christian Church, digging a little deeper into the text and subtext in his weekly sermon. In this episode Thomas and Michael explore one of the most confounding, interpretative, profound moments of the story of Jesus, the transfiguration. What did it mean for Jesus' disciples, how did it inform their work after the life of Jesus and how should it inform our own journey as disciples of Christ? Click here for full sermon audio and text. Each week we speak with Reverend Dr. Thomas Klienert, pastor of Vine Street Christian Church, digging a little deeper into the text and subtext in his weekly sermon. In this episode Thomas discusses the many different types of silences, ranging from those that heal the soul to those that weigh on it. Many women in the United States and across the world are breaking a silence on how they've been treated by men in power. Michael and Thomas ask hard questions about how men in every community should react to the movement and what is to be done next to heal. Click here for full sermon audio and text. Demons

Each week we speak with Reverend Dr. Thomas Klienert, pastor of Vine Street Christian Church, digging a little deeper into the text and subtext in his weekly sermon. In this episode we discuss the role of demons within the New Testament. It's easy for some to dismiss talk of demons in the Bible as people searching for an explanation to mental illness or some other unexplained phenomenon. But the fact is demons play a profound role in the gospel and it is inherent on the reader to ask why and what it may say about our current reality. Click here for full sermon audio and text.
