Sybil Ludington nearly disappeared into history. Her story was finally told in 1907 when her Great Nephew told of her heroic ride through the night to gather nearly 400 militia men to stand against the British army.

The American Civil War was a dark chapter in the Nations history. We often hear the war pitted brother against brother, but what about the women? While many served as nurses for both Union and Confederates there were around 400 documented cases of women disguising themselves as men and heading into battle. Today's episode explores one such solder.

Episode 1 explores the story of a young woman, Elva Shue, who after being found dead, returned as a spirit to tell the real story of her death. Her story lives as the only instance in American Law in which the testimony of a “ghost” was allowed to stand as evidence against the accused.
