It can be so exhausting to be a supporter for someone struggling with an eating disorder, but if nothing else, just be a support, just letting someone know that you are there to fight along side with them to figure things out together is of the utmost importance, just as important as maintaining your own emotional, mental and physical support. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/support

There are so many people who apparently thunk its their special job to tell us what we should be doing, who we should vote for and how to raise our kids. And when those we are trying to support through an eating disorder gets upset they will jump right in and tell us what think of us; thats none of our buisness and therefore we ought not take it personally, it is the eating disorder talking and not our loved ones. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/support

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just let go of our hurt, of our disdain and just be there for our loved ones, our children, our partners? We can ya know, we all can. Realizing that everyone of us sees things from our own individual perspective and that for that reason no-one's own knowledge of an event is wrong, that their account of what happened is just as valid as their feelings, it is derived from their perspective and thats OK. So let's practice letting go, there are few gifts to those we love than to validate and accept their perspective on something, the way something happened and letting them know that we respect that. When we do that we can then fully and whole-fully support them and focus on what they need and what we can do to help them. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/support

Sometimes we might find ourselves stuck and not knowing where to turn, sometimes we just need to turn to ourselves. I think often times we forget how much we have to offer ourselves, how strong we are. Sometimes we forget that we can reinvent ourselves, why not, we have the freedom to be whomever we want, whomever we need to be and we need to know that we aren't lost for good just because we might not be okay today. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/support

Will the same program be any different? Or are there other options I should consider. If it's hot and it burns you when you touch it you most likely will not touch it again, so lets carry that through to our self care and eating disorders, so many people I have worked with or spoken to who've gone through treatment have done multiple trips through the very same facility or the same program. Repeating the same thing over and over doesn't work and if the program is not changing to accommodate you then its time to reconsider and look for another option. This episode may be sort of dry but I think it is important for folks to know what eating disorders look like. I will introduce you to the common medically recognized eating disorders and explain a little about what each one looks like. It is important to know that often times different eating disorders can and will merge and sometimes people will transition from one to another. We are always learning more about eating disorders and recognizing them as a serious mental health issue, the stigma though I am afraid keeps many people from seeking help and once we can break that stigma the better we will all be. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tracy-charpentier/support
