I wish I was Mormon

In this episode, I do a deeper dive into one of Jesus’ most famous parables of The Good Samaritan. I talk about what a Samaritan is and how the controversy of this hero should influence our view of neighbor. Then I discuss my thoughts on what it means for us to be a neighbor to our friends and our enemies. In this time of chaos within our culture, there doesn’t seem to be a more appropriate time to think about what it means to be a good neighbor.The Good Samaritan can be found in Luke 10:25-37.

In this episode, I discuss my experience at the October General Conference of 2019. I also discuss some pitfalls of interfaith dialogue that I notice are common practice. In Latter-day Saint theology life does not begin on earth. Our lives started as spiritual beings who lived with our Heavenly Parents in the premortal realm. During this time we grew in our talents, skills, knowledge, and spent time with our spiritual brothers and sisters. However, our ability to grow/progress was stunted because our spiritual bodies could only take us so far. The good news is that God loves his creation so much that he refuses to let anything stand in the way of us returning to him. The term cult is often used as a general way of saying “this faith system doesn’t have the same beliefs as mine.” In my view, “cult” is rarely used in a way that mirrors the deep seeded negativity that comes attached to the term.Cult is a term that is useful when it is used well. However, it is often used improperly which means faith systems are constantly labeled “cult” that do not earn that title.
