Pretty Good History is hosted by two amateur culture critics who are passionate about high waisted pants, sensitive skin products, monochromatic outfits, and much more. Just young enough to not know if they are Gen-Z or Millennial, Lara and Alaina uncover the history and evolution of the idea of pretty. If you’ve ever wondered why most of your clothes are made of plastic, why makeup names have to be sexy, and why we feel the need to inject ourselves with snake venom, you’ve found your people.

2 - Princess Diana's Perfect Clothes & Solid Gold Nail Guards

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 9, 2021 88:21

Nail art! A historical fashion icon! And a murder? Nope, not that last one! This week Alaina examines the everlasting influence of Princess Diana’s fashion choices, a few of DIana’s greatest outfits, the truth behind why Diana would (almost) never be caught wearing Chanel, and how Diana purposefully used the fabric and her accessories to impact everyone she met. Lara dives deep into the past and present of nail art--from where it started long ago with beeswax and tiny eagle paintings all the way up to, in some parts of the world, nails being essentially indestructible with flashy charms and jewels it could make a queen’s crown look lackluster. Oh, and how the Vietnam war caused the Vietnamese to seek refuge in America and are now the backbone of the entire nail industry in America. Can’t forget that detail. Because this episode is very visually-centric, photos of all things discussed will be posted on both the Pretty Good History twitter and instagram. Find the podcast @pghpod on both platforms.
