Ecofeminist Thought & Rewilding : The Rewilding Series, Episode 6

"Rewilding is messy. Wild places are places of life, and of death. Places of growth and decay, of scavenging, of predation, of prey. They're not pretty places. They're places which display the gore and guts of nature, but also her beauty" This will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about rewilding and how our ecological future might look. Lending an ecofeminist voice to the conversation Susan Baker, professor of environmental policy at Cardiff University. Susan examines the rewilding movement through a feminist lens touching on issues of control, oppression, expectations and dualism in our relationship with nature and the environment. Is rewilding, as we know it, the right route to take? This is the last in The Rewilding Series podcasts, recording from Tom's shed, at the bottom of his garden in Peckham. Tom is joined, once again, by Anna Souter co-curator of Rewind/Rewild, to chat about this exciting new way of thinking about the natural world. As part of the Rewind/Rewild exhibition, Anna and co-curator Beatrice Searle invited thought leaders and creatives working in the area of rewilding to participate in the Rewilding Forum. Susan's talk was recorded here. Although this is the last in the series, we have new podcasts with fresh topics, new guests and new sheds in the pipeline. Follow us to be notified of new episodes. How do humans relate to non humans? Can art facilitate cooperation? This is the space in which Feral Practice likes to explore. We return to Tom's shed for our 5th podcast episode on rewilding, co-hosted by Anna Souter, co-curator of Rewind/Rewild. Fiona MacDonald is an artist and researcher who works with human and nonhuman beings as Feral Practice, to create art projects across species boundaries, and interdisciplinary events that develop ethical and imaginative relations across species boundaries. Listen here to Fiona in conversation with Tom Jeffreys as part of the Rewind/Rewild exhibition held at OmVed Gardens. Tom is a writer and curator, and editor of The Learned Pig. He writes primarily about contemporary art, and is particularly interested in work that crosses over into the sciences or explores our relationship with the environment.

Language & Landscape: The Rewilding Series, Episode 4

In the UK we have 350 different words for mud, not quite as enchanting as Iceland's 100 words for snow, granted. But these words, derived from dialects, and often with folklorish roots can describe an experience or place so viscerally. For the fourth episode in our series on rewilding we've set up camp in Tom's shed, from where he tends to his tomatoes. Tom is joined again by Anna Souter, co-curator of Rewind/Rewild, to discuss how language can strengthen our memories of, and connections to the landscape around us. As part of the Rewind/Rewild exhibition, Anna invited thought leaders and creatives working in the area of rewilding to talk about their areas of expertise. This week we feature a talk by Dominick Tyler, a photographer who has turned to exploring landscape through language for his current book, Uncommon Ground. Hear his full presentation here

For the third episode on our series on rewilding, Tom is joined again by Anna Souter, co-curator of Rewind/Rewild, to discuss rewilding, biodiversity and creating ecological balance. As part of the Rewind/Rewild exhibition, Anna invited thought leaders from the rewilding movement to talk about their areas of expertise. This week we feature a talk by Dr Darren Evans, reader in ecology and conservation at Newcastle University. Do we need to reassess where we put our conservation efforts? How do we challenge people's notions of what's important beyond what's feathery and furry and nice to look at? Hear his full presentation here

Welcome to Shed Sessions, a podcast where we commandeer sheds (and their owners) to talk about art, food, the environment. Stretching the definition of 'shed' for our first three podcasts on rewilding, we will be hosting guests in the glasshouse studio at OmVed Gardens. Once an unused concrete space, the land at OmVed gardens has been reclaimed and rewilded, the glasshouse re-imagined, to become a hub for creatives to examine ecological topics. This week Tom talks to Anna Souter. Anna is a writer, editor and curator with a particular interest in contemporary art and ecology. She co-curated the exhibition Rewind/Rewild with Beatrice Searle at OmVed Gardens in May, in which ten international artists were invited to explore spaces where humans and non-humans can flourish through co-existence. Rewind/Rewild also considered the need for humans themselves to re-engage with the natural world and discover a wilder way of living within the constraints of human society and consideration for others. As part of the Rewind/Rewild forum, Anna invited thought leaders from the rewilding movement to talk about their area of expertise. Pieter-Paul Groenhuijsen is the general manager of the Alladale Wilderness Resort. In this podcast hear his full presentation on Alladale and their efforts to restore this unique part of the Highlands to its former glory, reintroducing original plant and wildlife species.

Welcome to Shed Sessions, a podcast where we commandeer sheds (and their owners) to talk about art, food, the environment. For the second episode on our series on rewilding, we're recording in the glasshouse studio at OmVed Gardens. Once an unused concrete space, the land at OmVed gardens has been reclaimed and rewilded, the glasshouse re-imagined, to become a hub for creatives to examine ecological topics. Tom is joined by Anna Souter, co-curator of Rewind/Rewild, to discuss rewilding the natural environment and strengthening our own connections to nature and natural processes in a bid to find ecological balance. As part of the Rewind/Rewild exhibition, Anna invited thought leaders from the rewilding movement to talk about their areas of expertise. This week Dr Jonathan Prior, lecturer in human geography at Cardiff University, speaks about the aesthetics of rewilding and the potential challenges that this might bring up.
