SUGi creates pocket forests that breathe life into urban spaces. Founded in London and now operating in over 50 cities worldwide, SUGi uses the innovative Miyawaki method to transform small urban areas into thriving, biodiverse ecosystems. In a space the size of a tennis court, they can plant approximately 600 trees that grow rapidly, creating a mature forest in just a fraction of the time nature would typically require. Adrian Wong, UK Forest Lead, explains, "If nature did it naturally, it usually takes 150 to 500 years for a forest to mature. We supercharge that process." At the heart of SUGi's success is soil restoration. "Without a living, healthy soil, we can't do what we're doing," Adrian emphasises. They meticulously prepare urban sites by aerating the ground, introducing beneficial organisms like mycelium and worms, and creating a nutrient-rich environment that supports rapid growth and biodiversity. For me, as Adrian was telling us this, I felt this emphasis on creating a healthy environment for life to thrive, is similar to what we are trying to do with Biophilic Design inside our homes, hospitals, workplaces, creating healthy environments that enable all life to flourish. The impact is remarkable. Even in seemingly inhospitable urban locations, these micro forests attract diverse wildlife. At their South Bank forest, they've recorded an incredible range of species, including blue tits, green finches, and surprisingly, even tawny owls and peregrine falcons. Research is increasingly demonstrating the mental health benefits of these urban forests. A study with Oxford University is exploring how the volatile organic compounds released by trees can reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being. As Adrian puts it, "We're learning how to quantify the benefits that we know exist." Contrary to expectations, these forests require minimal maintenance. After initial care in the first three to four years, the forests become self-sustaining ecosystems. "Beyond that point, the forest looks after itself," Adrian explains. Adrian himself looks after over 30 forests on his own, which just proves that the method of planting is self-sustaining, affordable and there is no economic downside to scaling these across cities too. Just benefits. SUGi's approach addresses urban inequity by bringing green spaces to areas traditionally lacking natural environments. Their forests provide access to nature in communities that have been concrete bound, offering mental health benefits, educational opportunities, and a sense of community ownership. Everything which the Biophilia hypothesis encourages, and Biophilic Designers are aiming to create. "I would love to see a city that's part of nature, a city that's in nature," Adrian says at the end. This means integrating green spaces seamlessly into urban landscapes – from moss-covered walls to green roofs that provide habitat and food-growing opportunities. SUGi is always seeking collaborators. "Finding land is our biggest challenge," Adrian notes. Architects, city planners, and community leaders are invited to explore how micro forests can transform urban spaces. In just six years, SUGi has planted over 200 forests worldwide, proving that small spaces can create significant environmental and social change. If you have land which is calling out for a mini forest, please reach out directly to SUGi to collaborate. These pocket forests are more than just trees they are essential in our healing and connection in our urban landscapes. https://www.instagram.com/sugiproject/https://www.linkedin.com/company/sugiproject/posts/?feedView=allhttps://www.sugiproject.com/https://cdn.sanity.io/files/oyzyxja8/v2/913f3ee130ed408e418cd2b76a3e7bddf562c550.pdf He will be speaking at the biophilic design conference on: . What if healing from overwhelm, overthinking or burnout...could be as simple as spending time with Nature? In this enlivening episode, I sit down with Penni Cox, from South Africa, who is a psychologist, TEDx speaker, and founder of Alive Eco-Journeys. Penni shares her inspiring story of personal and professional transformation—moving from years of international humanitarian work and mental health counseling, through a challenging period of burnout in New York, to a profound healing journey rooted in nature.Together, w explore how reconnecting with the natural world can spark creativity, accelerate healing, and help restore both physical and mental well-being. You'll hear why Penni believes nature is the “better therapist,” how simple acts like being barefoot on the earth or nurturing a houseplant can foster a sense of belonging, and what science reveals about the restorative power of the outdoors.Whether you're navigating burnout, seeking more balance, or simply longing for more joy and connection, this conversation will invite you to rediscover your "ecological self" or your "wild self"—and gently remind you that awe and aliveness might be closer than you think. In this episode, you'll learn: How burnout can show up for high-achieving creatives, empaths, and business owners—and why it's not a sign of failureThe healing power of nature as an accessible, low-effort tool for reconnecting with purpose and overcoming overwhelm, overthinking or burnoutScience-backed ways that time in nature improves both mental and physical wellbeingHow to tap into awe, curiosity, and small steps to invite more aliveness into your daily life and creative processLinks:Activate Your Goddess Era with Podcasting More from Penni Cox:Visit: www.aliveecojourneys.comIG: @alive_ecojourneysLinkedIn: @PenniCoxMore episodes on this topic:Ep.146 - How To Tune Into The Music of The Body & Mind To Heal w/ Christianne WolffEp.91 - Unlock Your Natural State Of Abundance w/ Kara BitarThank you so much for listening! “Eros is not something you get from another person. It's the aliveness that rises when you are fully in your body.” - Victor WarringMy guest today is Victor Warring, a somatic educator and founder of Rewilding Eros - a body-centered path to reclaiming our natural erotic intelligence. In our conversation today, Victor invites us to look deeply at the condition of modern men: domesticated human animals, cut off from the wild currents that once shaped our bodies, relationships, and souls. He names how much of our struggle with intimacy, desire, and disconnection is not personal failure, but the inheritance of a culture that has forgotten the way of village.Together we explore the meaning of Rewilding Eros - how centuries of colonization and conditioning have constricted men's vitality, and how we might return to a more embodied, enlivened masculinity. We speak of civilization and desire, patriarchy and the loss of community, the tyranny of the dyad, and the hunger for wholeness that haunts the modern man.Victor reminds us that Eros is not merely sex, but the living current of aliveness itself - an invitation for men to reclaim their erotic sovereignty and rejoin the flow of life.LINKS* Rewilding Eros - Victor's Office Website* Rewilding Eros on IG* Book - Monogamous Mind, Polyamorous TerrorSHOW NOTES* 00:55 — Opening with embodied presence to reveal the importance of grounding in sensation before exploring sexuality and intimacy.* 02:50 — Rewilding Eros framed as reconnecting to the deep, natural erotic intelligence that lives in the flesh, not the mind.* 04:45 — Men's struggles around desire and intimacy understood as symptoms of domestication, not evidence of personal failure or inadequacy.* 06:20 — Patriarchal systems teach men to control themselves and others, while simultaneously cutting them off from their own vitality.* 08:55 — A wider historical and evolutionary view shows our current way of living is the anomaly, not the baseline of human experience.* 10:53 — Cultural norms become invisible, shaping what we think is normal in relationships, sex, and masculinity itself.* 12:55 — Wildness reframed as authentic human expression that is often more attuned and less harmful than “civilized” behavior.* 16:00 — Sexual disconnection emerges in captivity; when context limits freedom, erotic life withers — just like animals in a zoo.* 19:20 — The drop in desire inside long-term relationships is tied to isolation and stress, not a lack of attraction or compatibility.* 20:00 — The nuclear couple becomes overburdened when expected to meet every relational and erotic need without communal support.* 23:10 — Secure attachment has roots in village life where many caregivers hold the child — not a single partner doing it all.* 27:15 — When relationships are held in a wider web of kinship, Eros can breathe again and love becomes less pressured and more alive.* 32:40 — Erotic sovereignty arises from within; Eros is not something we get from others but something we generate by being fully alive.* 36:55 — Eros includes sex but extends far beyond it into movement, creativity, and the embodied flow of everyday life.* 39:20 — Pornography becomes a substitute when men lose access to their own erotic source; healing means coming home to the body's desire. How do we heal ourselves from the 'lost-ness' that afflicts our culture? How do we move on from the strange—and wholly untrue— belief our culture holds that we are separate from the natural world, that our cycles of exploitation, extraction, destruction, pollution are the way the world is, that this is the natural order and there's nothing we can do to change it, individually or collectively? Knowing that our sense of separation is an illusion is one thing, but genuinely feeling it deep in the marrow of our bones is quite another. Which is where this week's guest comes in. Kelly Wendorf is an executive and personal coach, spiritual mentor, disruptor, and socially responsible entrepreneur. As you'll hear, her book 'Flying Lead Change: 56 million years of Wisdom for living and leading' offers a unique answer to these questions. Kelly is founder and CEO of EQUUS whose central question is, 'What are you Yearning for?' and whose central offer is: 'We create conditions for your transformation'. As the name suggests, she and her team do this, by engaging the generous spirits of a herd of horses as mirrors to the people who come to EQUUS for coaching - and, although this is often not why they think they're coming, for healing. Kelly's childhood experience with a whole-hearted man in Ethiopia, and later, with one of the First Nations people in Australia, taught her a way of listening, of being fully present, fully in her heart mind and body mind, in the present moment, and this is what she helps others to find with the help of the horses who often just don't engage if we're not congruent, not present, not fully embodied. She has been called a ‘corporate shaman' and a ‘CEO whisperer', but as we crash through the boundaries of the Great Transformation, it seems to me that Kelly's work opens doors for us all. We may not have access to a herd of free-living, re-wilding horses, but even reading about the experiences of her clients can melt some of the concrete around our hearts. And with this, we can always step outside, stand still, let the living world teach us. So this was a deeply moving read, and a fascinating conversation, at the end of which, Kelly offered our community coupons for two of her forthcoming online courses - the first 'Breaking the Loop, Transforming Habits that hold you back' is on Saturday 1st November at 10-11:30 am Mountain Time and she's offered 50% off that one. The second is nearly a year from now: How to lead a Transformative Life' takes place over two Saturdays, for two hours each at 10am - 12 noon Mountain Time and this one has a base cost of $457, but Kelly is offering it to our Accidental Gods community for free. Let's be honest. Your relationship with money is probably one of the trickiest, most emotionally charged relationships you'll ever have. And I'm not talking about spreadsheets or financial planning here. I'm talking about how you feel about money, how you treat it, and how it's quietly shaping your decisions without you even realising it's happening. This week, we're going back to something I haven't talked about in a while: money mindset. Because here's the thing. Most of us didn't choose the money stories we're carrying around. We inherited them from our parents, our teachers, the culture we grew up in, and that whole toxic online abundance messaging that makes you feel like an idiot if you haven't manifested a private account in the Cayman Islands. (Thanks for nothing, The Secret.) What You'll Learn In This Episode: The money stories you inherited and how they're dictating your behaviour right now. Things like "money doesn't grow on trees" or "people like us don't have that kind of money" get wired into your nervous system, and suddenly abundance doesn't feel safe anymore. Why money isn't moral. Money isn't a reflection of how worthy or spiritual you are. It's not a moral compass. Money is neutral. It's energy. And when we treat it like it's moral, we start hustling for work we don't want, undercharging because we want to seem like good people, and over-delivering to prove our value. The two ways we try to control money and why neither one represents freedom. You're either constantly chasing money and making it the focus of everything, or you're pretending you're above caring about it at all. Both are about control. Both are ego. What it means to rewild your relationship with money. Coming back to a natural rhythm where money flows through you, supports you, and nourishes what matters, but isn't the all-or-nothing driving force of your business. Five things you can start doing today to shift your relationship with money: Name the inherited stories (whose voice are you hearing?) Track the flow (where does money move easily and where does it get stuck?) Look at your pricing (are you charging for acceptance or honouring your energy?) Practice receiving (compliments, help, opportunities, all of it) Redefine what wealth means for you The distinction between wealth and worth. Wealth is external and movable. Worth is internal and doesn't change. You cannot let money carry your self-esteem. You cannot let money have that much power. The Big Truth: Money doesn't respond to guilt or scarcity. But it does respond to clear, aligned action. It responds to purpose. It responds to flow. When you spend money in alignment, it circulates. When you invest in what you believe in, it multiplies. When you hoard it out of fear, it stagnates. And here's the weird thing: when you stop with the proving and the grasping and the chasing, that's when money starts to flow. That's when money becomes the side effect of intentional, aligned work. That's what I want for you. This Week's Journaling Prompts: Where in my business am I still asking money for permission? (Permission to rest, to create something different, to feel successful, to feel safe?) What part of me still believes that wealth and worth are the same thing? And what could happen if I stopped believing that? If money and I were in an honest relationship, what conversation are we long overdue to have? (What needs forgiving? What needs claiming? What needs renegotiating?) Don't rush these. Sit with them. See what comes up. Is rewilding truly mainstream now, or does it remain mired in misunderstanding? Can we finally agree on what the term actually means? And is it really an anti-rural movement that seeks to empty the countryside of people? These questions have dominated conservation debates for years, and our conversation today tackles them head-on with refreshing clarity. Our guest is Dr Steve Carver, Director of the Wildland Research Institute at the School of Geography, University of Leeds, and Professor of Rewilding and Wilderness Science. In our conversation we explore how rewilding differs fundamentally from traditional conservation and regenerative farming. We examine the crucial role of scale, the problematic nature of fences in rewilding projects, and why the Oostvaardersplassen experiment in the Netherlands offers important lessons. Steve introduces his concept of 'nature-led versus human-led' approaches and explains why giving nature the space and time to determine its own trajectory remains the core principle. We also discuss the controversial question of whether projects like Knepp Estate truly qualify as rewilding or represent something else entirely.Throughout our discussion, Steve emphasises that rewilding is deeply context-specific and requires genuine local community engagement to succeed. He unpacks the relationship between wilderness and rewilding, explores why species reintroductions aren't mandatory, and shares his measured optimism about lynx returning to the UK (though wolves remain a more distant prospect). We also examine how the European interpretation of rewilding has evolved differently from its North American origins, and what this means for future conservation efforts. This episode offers a balanced, scientifically grounded perspective on where rewilding stands today and where it might be heading.Further reading:Guiding principles for rewildingSubscribe to Tommy's Outdoors: Conservation and Science NewsletterSupport the Podcast and Buy Me a Coffee.Recommended Books: tommysoutdoors.com/booksMerch: tommysoutdoors.com/shopFollow Tommy's Outdoors on Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and FacebookMentioned in this episode:This is the Conservation and Science podcast Replay series, a curated collection of best episodes from last year. On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Sarah Robinson. Sarah is an Author and Yoga Teacher based in the green outskirts of Bath, UK. She is fascinated by myth, magic and folklore; which is evident in her books which include the bestselling Kitchen Witch: Food, Folklore and Fairy Tale, the Witch and the Wildwood, and the upcoming Witch Country: Seeking the Witch in the British Landscape – flying out on Samhain 2025 - all published by Womancraft Publishing. Sarah loves exploring the power of myth, magic and story in both her writing and yoga teaching, and is passionate about helping everyone connect to their own special magic and inner power. In this episode we explore how the land can be a living remedy - how it holds our stories, reflects our wounds, and helps us remember the Witch within. Sarah shares her journey of rewilding wonder and rooting back into the magic of the British Isles, offering reflections on the spirit of place, ancestral grief, seasonal rhythm, and the healing power of story. We speak to what it means to be held by land and lore, how myth helps us navigate modern overwhelm and disconnection, and why there is no ‘right' way to find your magic. This is a conversation for the Witch who longs to belong, and is ready to remember - via the land - that you already do. What You'll Learn from this Episode: The ‘land' - aka the wild - acts as a living mirror, reflecting our inner wounds, wonder, and wisdom - places are remedies! We don't need to travel far to find magic - unless we choose to - we belong right where we are, and we can take steps to reconnect to ourselves in our local lands Stories, myths, and folklore live within the land, waiting to be heard There is no one ‘right' way to be a witch or walk the land with reverence - however we do, we can learn and heal Places of grief and wounding hold powerful medicine when we're willing to listen and face the truth Magic begins with presence - start where you are and let the land speak to you - you might be surprised what you learn. What if your nervous system isn't something to fix or “capacity build”?What if the most radical practice isn't doing more, but simply noticing? And what if the mainstream understanding of the nervous system is just whitewashed wellness hacks — colonized language for ancient ancestral wisdom? In this episode, I riff on those questions and share:

Today we are at the Knepp Estate - a huge rewilding project across 3500 acres of land, undertaken by the writer and conservationist Isabella Tree and her family. As she outlines so beautifully in her bestselling memoir Wilding, when Isabella moved into Knepp, then her husband's family estate, she inherited more than just a castle. A crumbling property and a financially precarious farm were part of the package too. By the late 90s the couple found themselves in debt and realised they needed to stop farming - but what to do with all this land? Well that's when they decided to try an experiment to bring back wildlife that would become their life's work. 25 years later the result is Knepp Wildland. The site, part of which is open to the public, now plays host to all sorts of species including roaming pigs and ponies alongside some of Britain's rarest animals: turtle doves, nightingales and purple emperor butterflies. We join Isabella among the golden fields of ragwort and beneath nesting storks to learn what makes a woman tear up a rule book for the sake of ecology's survival - before being taken to one of the estate's best-kept secrets: the walled garden at the castle. As the sun sets, she tells us about the courage and conviction needed to make real change. If you'd like to find out more about Knepp, head to www.knepp.co.uk for information on how to visit and to sign up to the Knepp newsletter for events, the Rewilding Garden Blog, safaris and the Knepp Wilding podcast, which Isabella hosts. What exactly is rewilding? Does it simply mean bringing back wolves, lynx and bears, or is there more to it? Can we balance food production and rural community needs with land left to natural processes and wildlife conservation? To answer these questions, I talk with Ian Parsons, editor of "Great Misconceptions: Rewilding Myths and Misunderstandings", a new book that explores common assumptions and misconceptions about rewilding. In our discussion, we address aspects of rewilding that are often misunderstood or misinterpreted, sometimes innocently and at other times deliberately or even maliciously. We explore three topics commonly associated with rewilding that often spark heated debate: species reintroductions, community engagement, and the choice between tree planting and natural regeneration. This discussion draws on the collective wisdom of renowned authors who contributed distinct chapters to the book.In the end, Ian emphasises that rewilding shouldn't remain just another niche concept but needs to be integrated into how we live our lives, from urban planning to politics or even business practices. He challenges the notion that rewilding is anti-rural, arguing instead that it can revitalise rural economies and provide new opportunities for communities. The episode provides valuable insights for anyone interested in conservation, land management and the future of our relationship with nature.Buy Great Misconceptions: Rewilding Myths and MisunderstandingsSubscribe to Tommy's Outdoors: Conservation and Science NewsletterSupport the Podcast and Buy Me a Coffee.Recommended Books: tommysoutdoors.com/booksMerch: tommysoutdoors.com/shopFollow Tommy's Outdoors on Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and FacebookTommy's Outdoors is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk Mentioned in this episode:This is the Conservation and Science podcast Replay series, a curated collection of best episodes from last year. In this episode of Insightful Adventuring, I'm exploring what it means to rewild the feminine; to return to nature, intuition, and ritual as sources of wisdom and grounding. We'll talk about: Why rewilding matters in our over-domesticated lives. How to use your body as a compass for truth and intuition. What healthy boundaries have in common with thriving ecosystems. How to notice and interpret the signs and synchronicities around you. The power of ritual to bring meaning and rhythm to everyday life. This conversation is part story, part science, and part soul. It's an invitation to remember the wildness that's already within you and allow it out. If this episode resonates, I want to personally invite you into Wild & Rooted, an intimate 8-week journey where a circle of just 15 women will walk these practices together. Wild & Rooted is about more than learning. It's about experiencing and creating something amazing together: a life that feels more rooted, more alive, and more aligned with your true nature.
