In this interesting and laughable interview, our coyote friend shares so many interesting facts about how the fear mongering around coyotes came to be and what the actual facts are. Once she explains all of this, it makes so much sense! Now when I hear coyotes yipping in the distance, I know they are celebrating seeing one another at the end of a difficult day, checking census to see how many are among them (and if their litter size needs to shrink or raise) and are possibly even doing that goofy butt run our old friend Rover does around the house. Remember, with every neighbor in nature that we get to know just a bit better, the more our community expands and deeper our sense of belonging becomes. In this episode, we'll be singing the praises of our old friend the crow. This misunderstood songbird is quite possibly the most intelligent creature in North America and is more than willing to become friends with you. In fact, you could even become a Legend Among Crows and we're here to tell you how. We'll be playing a game where Joel will be testing Leah's crow knowledge while shedding some light on these iridescent black beauties. Is a crow smarter than our 3 year old son, Woods? Do crows mate for life and live in large, close knit families? Do crows hold murder investigations? Do crows destroy your garden and backyard song bird diversity? These are just some of the questions Leah will be asked while you test your knowledge as well. Come on and play along! Remember, with every neighbor in nature that we get to know just a bit better, the more our community expands and deeper our sense of belonging becomes. In this episode I, Leah, am bringing herbalism home with the focus on the common garden companion, Thyme. Join me as I talk not only about this plant's medicinal properties, but also how to actually incorporate this into your life. When do you work with thyme? How do you work with it? Where do you plant thyme so it can help your garden? I'll also break down a cough for you. All coughs are not created equally and each type of cough needs a different herb for best results. Specifically, I talk about 3 basic coughs, the dry, wet and irritated cough. Thyme is a wonderful teacher in this lesson. I'll then dig into Thyme in the garden and who it likes to be planted by and who thrives because it is near. If anyone out there is tired of picking off those big ol' tomato hornworms, you may want to give this a listen. This episode is then rounded out with herbal medicine making tips and a recipe to make sure that you have what you need to bring this amazing natural neighbor, Thyme, into your home with confidence and excitement. It's one thing to listen and learn a bit, but it's another to feel ready to bring it into your life; let's see if we can do that today. In this episode, we are both so excited about Pine that we brought our own info to share with one another. This magnificent tree is one of the best friends you can find in a forest. It can provide year round food, medicine and shelter for us and many other forest family members. Leah shares about Pine's medicinal properties and how to prepare those. One fascinating way to receive Pine's immune boosting benefits is to simply stand near one! That and many other amazing herbal wellness gems are waiting for you… even one of Leah's favorite herbal recipes, a Pine Oxymel. Joel will help you feel more confident in Pine tree identification regarding “poisonous” pine information you may need to know. He will also talk about the wide range of edibility from this Giving Tree… believe it or not…. Every single part of this tree can be eaten at some point in the year.
