#18 - Why happy endings matter...

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2017 13:46

Too many stories with happy endings make us suspicious. We roll our eyes and say, "That will never happen to me." But in truth, this happens because we struggle to hold on to desire. It's hard! Especially if we don't get what we want! This Story Worth Telling, the story of Rebekah, DOES have a happy ending - and wisdom within that reminds us of what matters far more than the end: the in-between. #17 - "Limned" - A story told by 4 women in honor of World Storytelling Day

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 17, 2017 39:20

Different from what I normally offer on this podcast, today's story is one that I've written (and recorded) collaboratively with three other women, the three women with whom I have been writing for nearly 3 years: Julie Daley, Tanya Geisler, and Amy Palko. Along the way we discovered a process we call "braided writing" in which our voices have merged into something more powerful than each one separately. It has changed us, to be sure. Today, on World Storytelling Day, it feels appropriate and like profound privilege to offer "Limned" to you. The sound quality and volume tend to waver a bit within. It will be worth adjusting for...I promise. And a warning: there is some profanity within.

It is my hope that the story of these two women will inspire your story, remind you of just how much power you have, and compel you to brave and risky choices. May it be so! #15 - An excruciating story that MUST be told!

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 20, 2016 23:27

This is, by far, the hardest story of a woman in the entire canon of scripture. I don't like telling it AND if I do not, it perpetuates her harm and violence yet again. In truth, this is what happens in our larger world: women's stories of violence and harm are not told - or shushed, downplayed, made to seem insignificant or worse, as lies. And when we do not rise and rage together, the violence and harm continues - of the victims themselves and all of us collectively. Hard stories MUST be told so that their darkness is exposed. Hard stories MUST be told so that we disallow their happening yet again. Hard stories abound and every one of them is a story worth telling. Including yours. I hope you will listen. Her story matters: the Concubine.
