One of the greatest sophomore records in the past few decades of music was delivered to us in 2006 by a promising young singer-songwriter, Amy Jade Winehouse. Along with her co-pilots Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson, Amy took a departure from the sound of her debut album and went in a completely new direction...into the doo-wop, girl group sound of the 60s. This decision would prove to be one of the best moves of her career, a move that set the stage for her to create her master work. On January 10th, 2024 The Record Club kicked off the new year with our eleventh session, where we covered the incredible "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse. This episode goes inside that night.
On February 14, 2024 The Record Club celebrated it's 1 year anniversary. To properly honor our first loop we revisited the album from our very first session: D'Angelo's Voodoo. This episode takes you inside that night.
In 1977 Donald Fagen and Walter Becker had fully converted from a 6 piece rock band to a faceless jazz/rock duo, you heard them but were no longer seeing them. 3 years removed from giving up touring and embracing their new lives as a studio project, they now had the time and the freedom to be as musically ambitious and detailed as desired, with full support from ABC records to do so. This era of the Dan birthed their crowning achievement: their sixth studio album "Aja". The Record Club hosted a listening experience for this album March 13th of 2024, this episode takes you inside that night.
