The cosmic monopole has been wandering the Universe since the Big Bang. When it is finally trapped in CERN it triggers a disaster which will take fourteen-year-old Catriona O’Brien on an adventure back to the Big Bang and beyond in a desperate attempt to save the Universe from destruction. Encompas…
The doctor is shocked as one of the crystal fragments seems to disappear. Meanwhile George arrives in the ATLAS cavern and attempts to catch Alex and Catriona.
Catriona tries to get Alex to help her rescue Sam, while Danny arrives in the Medical Centre and is shocked to learn about the death of the baby.
Sam tells Catriona what she must do to save the Universe, then gets taken for an unexpected ride. Meanwhile Alex takes Danny Schneider for a ride, though he would rather not have to.
Professor Cjingha Itoodoo and Princess Uskabellu take the Cosmic Egg back to the University and work out how they can restart time, but their plans immediately begin to go adrift.
George sends Alex back to the ATLAS cavern to collect Danny Schneider, and he uses the opportunity to search for more crystal, but there is a great weight hanging round his neck!
Sofie meets George and learns how to fly while the Doctor rescues Marianne’s crystal. Then Sofie flies up to the helicopter where she meets an unwelcome person.
Sofie suffers almost as much as Marianne as she struggles to help her deliver the baby with only a bottle of water, a bar of chocolate and a rope to help her.
Alex and George narrowly escape death when they discover how to use their crystals to fly. As they find their way back to Geneva Alex makes up his mind that he is going to get his ex-lover Marianne back as soon as he can.
Cjingha takes the Cosmic Egg to the Palace, meets the Queen and hears the Privy Council discuss the rebellion. Then she takes the Egg to the Temple to be blessed.
Firefighter Sofie Dialektaki helps Marianne search for the helicopter, but it is not where it is supposed to be and Marianne enters labour, much to Sofie’s consternation.
Comparative cosmologist Professor Cjingha Itoodoo leaves Michael in the Entroilian nursery and takes Sam and the Universe (which she calls a ‘cosmic egg’) to the University for further analysis. There she meets Councillor Moshendiar.
After Marianne sings Catriona a lullaby and warns her about Alex they set off along the rope to search for the doctor. During this episode Catriona says: ‘I wish I knew more about all this (meaning pregnancy). Why don’t they teach things like this in school? D’you know they don’t even teach us first aid? It’s incredible when you think about it. I mean, they teach you about biology but don’t teach you the basics of saving somebody’s life! They could so easily make it part of the biology course, couldn’t they?’ Inspired by his own character, Wyken begins a campaign to support teaching first aid in schools. For every person who visits www.timecrystal.co.uk/firstaid and leaves a comment of support, Wyken will pay $1 to the St John Ambulance Schools Campaign. This could be the world's first campaign created by a character in a book!
Alex and George set out to find the doctor but end up taking a trip through the atmosphere up towards outer space.
The bee feeds Michael and he is transformed into something even more horrible, but at least he explains to Sam what is going on.
As a giant bee arrives at Sam’s crystal network he sees Marianne revive Catriona and Alex, who then goes off to find the doctor.
Marianne reaches the balcony and Sam helps her find Catriona and Alex, but there is danger approaching him through the sky of the pink planet.
Sam finds that Marianne is still alive and encourages her to get out of the stretcher. She is surrounded by a strange soap-like bubble and has serious injuries.
Sam’s life is threatened by the fierce struggles of the airship to escape from the crystal network.
Sam manages to survive drowning in the pink jelly only to find himself lifted up inside the magnetic tube by a gigantic airship with some extraordinary features and actions.
Sam finally realises what a selfish woman his wife really is, then he sees a black shadow emerge from ATLAS and begin to move towards the stretcher in which Marianne is hanging suspended in the middle of the cavern.
Alex leads George Gabor to rescue Catriona and Alex, and the party moves along a tunnel from the USA15 cavern. When Catriona observes the way Alex behaves when he is near Marianne, her passion for him is finally sealed.
The black hole emerges from the beam pipe into ATLAS. It hits one of the magnets and causes a quench and a coolant leak. The party try to escape up the stairs, but there are more problems facing them as they hurry up to the surface. The level three alarm reaches the Fire Station just as the Green Team Leader George Gabor is being reprimanded by the self-important Station Commander Laron Parfait.
Michael Zhang reveals that he suspects a cosmic monopole was trapped by the strong magnetic fields inside ATLAS and has now been transformed by absorbing particles from the beams into something else, something much more dangerous.
Brigit is now the Irish Ambassador to the UN in Geneva. She invites Catriona and Sam to Switzerland for the Easter holiday in 2012. They all go on a visit to CERN where the Director General Francesco Romani wants to persuade Brigit that Irish membership would be of great benefit. Catriona meets Chinese-Irish scientist Michael Zhang and finds that he was present on the night her father died.
Catriona looks for help and finds a friend in her teacher, Sam Fitzpatrick, but even he doesn't believe her story. However Sam is an unmarried man who loves children but knows he will never have any children of his own, so he is very happy to help this unhappy little girl.
Catriona O’Brien is only eight years old when she makes a desperate attempt to bring her parents back together, but she meets more than she bargained for in the dark little park surrounding the Advanced Physics Laboratory where her father does his experiments. The events of that evening will seal her fate, and the destiny of the Universe.
