This amounts to a doubling of interest costs over the past 19 months, according to Bloomberg. It is the equivalent of 15.9 percent of the Federal budget for fiscal year 2022. The worsening metrics may reignite debate about the US fiscal path amid heavy borrowing from Washington. That dynamic has already helped drive up bond yields, threatened the return of the so-called bond vigilantes and led Fitch Ratings to downgrade US government debt in August. “There will be further increases to Treasury coupon auctions and T-bills outstanding going forward,” Bloomberg Intelligence strategists Ira Jersey and Will Hoffman wrote in a research note. “Besides deficits of over $2 trillion in the foreseeable future, climbing maturities following the increase of issuance from March 2020 will also need to be refinanced.” The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the cumulative deficit for the 2024–2033 period will total $20.2 trillion, or 6.1 percent of GDP. Deficits are expected to be at least 5.5 percent of GDP every year for the coming decade. Since 1973, the federal government budget deficit has averaged 3.6 percent of GDP. https://dailycaller.com/2023/11/07/van-jones-biden-retire-2024-election-drop-out/ ‘It’s Time’: CNN’s Van Jones Says Biden Needs To Consider Retiring CNN’s Van Jones said Tuesday that President Joe Biden needs to consider retiring following a poll from The New York Times/Siena College. The Sunday poll found president Donald Trump leading Biden by a substantial margin in five out of six key swing states. Biden holds a slight edge within the margin of error over Trump in Wisconsin. Jones argued Biden is in a tough position. Video Plays Several pundits have questioned whether Biden should drop out of the race, with CNN’s David Axelrod saying the president needs to decide whether staying in the race is “in his best interest or the country’s.” Director of Defending Democracy Together Bill Kristol posted on X that Biden needs to make an act of “personal sacrifice.” “It’s time. President Biden has served our country well. I’m confident he’ll do so for the next year. But it’s time for an act of personal sacrifice and public spirit. It’s time to pass the torch to the next generation. It’s time for Biden to announce he won’t run in 2024,” Kristol wrote. https://hotair.com/karen-townsend/2023/11/07/future-darwin-award-winner-tried-to-target-jewish-children-in-americas-midwest-n590580 Future Darwin Award Winner Tried to Target Jewish Children in America's Midwest A woman in Indiana plowed her car into a building she thought was a Jewish school. The police describe her as a terrorist and she was arrested at the scene. Not only was her intention to hurt or kill Jewish school children in their school in Indianapolis but she was completely mistaken about her target. The 34-year-old terrorist woman, allegedly backed her vehicle into a building associated with Black Hebrew Israelites on Friday. She admitted to the police that she specifically targeted the building because she was offended by a Hebrew Israelite symbol in front. This psycho thought she was entitled to try to harm children because she was offended by a symbol in front of the building, apparently. There were several adults and children in the building at the time. However, they were not who the woman thought they were. She said, “Yes. I did it on purpose.” She kept describing the building as the “Israel school” and she spoke about “her people back in Palestine.” According to the Anti-Defamation League, the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge is a sect of the Black Hebrew Israelites. It is an extremist group that is anti-Israel. The Southern Poverty Law Center (I know) has designated them as a hate group. So, ironically, the unhinged and offended the woman plowed into the building used by a group who hate Israel as she does. She is Darwin Award material. An investigation is underway. There may be additional charges brought against her. The Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis said Safe Indiana, a Jewish community security program, is working with cops to probe the incident. “Safety and security for our community is of the utmost importance, and we are more secure and prepared than ever before,” the federation said in a statement. “Although a Jewish facility was not targeted, solely due to ironic misidentification, this is yet another reminder to maintain security protocols, remain vigilant of suspicious activity and to (report promptly) to the appropriate authorities.” These random acts of terror seem to be increasing. FBI Director Christopher Wray recently warned of lone wolf attacks. Wray said Hamas inspired terrorists pose a threat not seen since the days of ISIS. She confessed that she was motivated to do the attack after watching news coverage of the Israel-Hamas war. She is originally from Amman, Jordan. Wray said that while Hamas is assessed to have no capabilities inside the US, other actors – possible radicalized individuals or small groups – could take inspiration from the terror group in a way similar to ISIS. Speaking to the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee, he said: “We assess that the actions of Hamas and its allies will serve as an inspiration, the likes of which we haven’t seen since ISIS launched its so-called caliphate several years ago. “In just the past few weeks, multiple foreign terrorist organizations have called for attacks against Americans and the West.” He said: “Here in the United States, our most immediate concern is that violent extremists – individuals or small groups – will draw inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks against Americans going about their daily lives.” She was charged with a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness. Her first court appearance is scheduled for today, November 8. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/255928/vatican-hospital-offers-to-treat-critically-ill-baby-denied-life-support-in-britain Vatican hospital offers to treat critically ill baby denied life support in Britain The Vatican’s pediatric hospital has offered to treat 8-month-old baby Indi Gregory after a British court ruled that she be removed from life support against her parents’ wishes. Gregory, who was born in February, suffers from a rare degenerative mitochondrial disease and has been receiving life-sustaining treatment on a ventilator at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, England. After England’s high court ruled that it was in the child’s “best interests” to be taken off life support, Gregory’s parents appealed to take her to Rome for treatment, an appeal that was denied by a British judge over the weekend. The Italian government decided in an emergency meeting on Monday to grant the critically ill child Italian citizenship and to cover the cost of her medical treatment at the Vatican’s Bambino Gesù (jay-zoo) hospital. “They say there isn’t much hope for little Indi, but until the very end, I’ll do what I can to defend her life,” Italian President Giorgia Meloni wrote on social media on Nov. 6. “And to defend the right of her mamma and papa to do all that they can for her.” The Bambino Gesù hospital has previously offered medical treatment to other critically ill children, including Alfie Evans in 2018 and Charlie Gard in 2017, both of whom were ultimately denied the chance to travel to Italy by U.K. courts and died days after being removed from life support. Christian Concern has published a letter from the president of the Bambino Gesù hospital outlining “a detailed treatment plan” for the child, which includes “life-sustaining treatment and palliative care to ensure Indi’s survival and comfort while the treatments take effect.” Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre supporting the Gregorys’ case, has noted that this is believed to be the first time that a parent’s appeal against an order to withdraw life-sustaining treatment has been rejected by the Court of Appeal without a hearing. “The law is there to protect life and the most vulnerable in our society. What is happening in this case sets a very worrying precedent with regard to that principle,” Williams said. “It is very concerning that a child can be held against the parents’ wishes when they have alternative treatment available.” With the newly granted Italian citizenship, the child’s parents, Dean Gregory and Claire Staniforth, can appeal to the Italian consulate in Britain to request that their daughter be airlifted to Italy for treatment, according to Reuters. Simone Pillon (pee-lone), an Italian lawyer assisting the Gregory family, wrote on Nov. 7: “We are working to find an agreement between the two countries to satisfy the family’s request and treat Indi in Rome.” In response to the Italian government’s decision, Dean Gregory, Indi’s father, said: “My heart fills up with joy that the Italians have given Claire and I hope and faith back in humanity. The Italians have shown us care and loving support and I wish the U.K. authorities were the same.” https://nypost.com/2023/11/06/news/texas-southern-tuba-player-punches-heckler-in-the-stands-video/ Marching Band turns into Marching Hands? Texas Southern band member punches heckler in the stands, continues playing - He didn’t miss a beat. A Texas Southern University tuba player swiftly knocked out an obnoxious heckler during a football game Saturday before carrying on playing his instrument. Video taken from the stands during Saturday’s game between Texas Southern and Jackson State shows the college band’s tuba player bouncing along to the music while a fan starts yelling at him. A Jackson State fan can be seen in the footage aggressively yelling at the tuba player, who is attempting to continue playing with the band. Seeming to have had enough of the outburst, the Texas Southern tuba player says something to the man before swiftly punching him four times in the face. The Texas Southern band member then returns to his instrument as if the altercation never happened. In one recording of the incident, the band member can be heard telling the aggressive fan, “F–k off, b—h.” It’s unclear whether the heckler, who stumbled back several feet in the stands, sustained any injuries from the scuffle. It’s also unclear whether police responded to the incident or if any action was taken against the band member. Texas Southern University ended up losing to Jackson State, 21-19. https://www.outkick.com/field-hockey-teammate-issues-bold-statement-against-miaa-for-allowing-male-players-to-compete-against-women/ FIELD HOCKEY CAPTAIN SLAMS MASSACHUSETTS LAW ALLOWING BOYS ON GIRLS TEAMS AFTER BRUTAL INJURY TO HER TEAMMATE Men competing against women in sports spawned another tragic story on Thursday when a female field hockey player suffered significant injuries to her face after taking a shot from a male opponent. The female high schooler played on Dighton-Rehoboth High School’s team, and now the co-captain / teammate of her squad is speaking up and calling for policy change to prohibit men from competing against women to avoid further incidents. Kelsey Bain, who plays on Dighton-Rehoboth and is the co-captain of the field hockey team, posted a letter on X, directed at the MIAA to change the association’s policy that allows men to compete against women. “This is a letter I sent to the MIAA in response to the recent Swampscott vs. Dighton-Rehoboth field hockey incident,” Kelsey Bain posted on X, including the three-page notice. Women’s rights activist and OutKick host Riley Gaines shared Bain’s statement on social media. The man played for Swampscott High School, who played Dighton-Rehoboth in a playoff field hockey contest on Thursday. Under the MIAA’s ruling — the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association — men can compete against women if a sport does not offer their gender’s league. The man’s shot knocked several of the girl’s teeth out and caused serious facial injuries. Video of the hit shows the girl writhing in pain and screaming. To prevent these incidents from continuing, Kelsey Bain is stepping into the discourse, understanding that the association will not budge on the issue unless they are challenged. Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Bill Runey put out a statement, identifying that the opponent was indeed a man and relaying the horror of the team personnel after one of their own suffered a brutal injury. Runey said, “Last night, a female field hockey player for the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School girls’ field hockey team sustained significant facial and dental injuries when she was struck in the face by a shot in the third quarter versus Swampscott in an MIAA state playoff contest. “The shot was taken by a male member of the Swampscott girls field hockey team. This injury required hospitalization. The player, her family, teammates, and coaches remain in my prayers.”

In today's memorable episode, Matt examines the intriguing connection between sleep and motor memory. Beginning with an explanation of the two main types of human memory - fact-based memory and procedural memory, which includes motor/skill memories - he notes that, contrary to popular belief, motor/skill memories aren't stored in our muscles but primarily within the brain. Matt also describes his journey into researching motor memories which started at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, England, where he observed stroke patients recovering lost muscle control and speech during rehabilitation.Matt recounts a pivotal moment in his life when he encountered a pianist who would struggle with a piece of music in the evening but be able to play it flawlessly the next morning after a night's sleep. This revelation ignited Matt's 16-year journey, resulting in his groundbreaking research showing that practicing a skill followed by a full night's sleep is the secret to memory enhancement. Today, our host shares details of this research and goes on to explain sleep spindles - bursts of activity during stage two non-REM sleep that play a crucial role in enhancing memory, particularly during the last 2-3 hours of the night. Ultimately, Matt's extensive findings, as shared here today, emphasize that if you want to excel in motor/skill memory, "if you don't snooze, you lose." So, listen in today and learn all about the power of prioritizing sleep for optimal performance. Please note that Matt is not a medical doctor, and none of the content in this podcast should be considered medical advice in any way, shape, or form, nor prescriptive in any way. Dr Liz Evans, CEO of the UK Medical Freedom Alliance, the UK's leading voiceon medical ethics makes an important statement in response to shocking images of “Peppa Pig's Flu Clinic” on a Medical Centre's Twitter feed. They appear to be using the popular children's cartoon character Peppa Pig (along with party food, soft playand other kids' activities) to advertise and promote flu vaccines to children.UKMFA would like to remind the NHS, medical organisations and healthcareprofessionals responsible, that laws and ethical and professional codes enshrinethe principle of properly obtaining informed consent for all medical interventions. As well as requiring a full explanation of risks as well as benefits, they specifythat coercion and bribery must not be used. Normalerweise besuchen Kinder in Ecuador Grundschulen.

Send us a Text Message. In the final episode of series 4 of BLA Connections: A Clear Voice, host Natalie Watson is joined by Professor Reza Nouraei, Consultant Laryngologist and Tracheal Surgeon at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, to discuss how to oxygenate our patients whilst operating on the larynx under general anaesthetic. Prof Nouraei walks us step-by-step through THRIVE and other tubeless ventilation methods. “You have all the time in the world to put a scope in, as long as it's less than three minutes.”This quote from Prof David Howard, a global Laryngology pioneer and a friend and mentor to many UK Laryngologists including Prof Nouraei, was an inspiration to search for methods of increasing apnoea time.THRIVE is essentially a method of ventilating patients who are under general anaesthesia and under conditions of muscle paralysis (i.e. apnoea), by filling the upper airways with oxygen and by activating a ventilatory exchange process which increases the time to desaturation. As well as explaining the functions and indications for THRIVE, Prof Nouraei shares his tips and insights for using the procedure successfully, including which patients and conditions might not be suitable for it. We also discuss other ventilation strategies and new airway management tools for further improving them.To ensure that patients with acutely compromised airways are managed safely, it is vital to understand the anatomy of laryngoscopy and to appreciate how the sharp angle between the lips and the larynx is converted into a straight line. This enables the laryngologist to create safe access corridors for oxygenation and for shared-airway surgery after the patient has been anaesthetised and has been rendered apnoeic. Apnoeic ventilation has been a major game changer for our specialty, as well, more broadly, for the care of patients with complex and compromised airways whom, as laryngologists, we are regularly called upon to support. For more expert insight into all things laryngology, please do look back at other episodes in this series, including the management and patient journey of airway stenosis, persistent throat symptoms, and the ageing voice. Hello everybody and welcome, welcome welcome to the health and sport show. My name is Tom Butterfield and I'm your host…. On 11th November 2002, coroner Andrew Haigh recorded a verdict of "death by industrial disease”. At the time it was groundbreaking, the first time this ruling had ever occurred in the UK… because it regarded a professional sportsperson….. an ex international footballer, Jeff Astle. It was the tireless, dedicated work by his family and loved ones who managed to break through seemingly impenetrable barriers and pave the way for other families to claim compensation, and the most recent FA decision to ban heading in those under the age of 12 years old. Derek Robson, the consultant neuro-pathologist at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, told the inquest Astle was suffering from a brain condition which was likely to have been exacerbated by heading leather footballs. Much heavier than those used by professional players today. I remember my Grandad saying that you tried not to header the ball between November and March because it was like heading a cannonball!! The water would make the ball heavier, and add some ice and I don't think his analogy would have been far from the truth. The neuro-pathologist went on to say…and I quote: "I found there was considerable evidence of trauma to the brain similar to that of a boxer. "It is quite probable that it was heading a heavy football that caused it.” I played football from the age of…….. when I could stand….. which was about 10 months of age. Always had a ball with me everywhere I went. I remember my Dad rolling me the ball, I'd kick it back…. Rolling the ball, I'd kick it back…… I'd try and kick it really hard to get a look of surprise and a puff of the cheeks from him. I remember being taught how to head the ball at training, and if you caught it on the top of your head it would ache and throb for a good minute after. There's nothing quite like timing a header and feeling it fly off your forehead like a rocket…. But now I regret every single one of them. I'm fearful that the thousands of impacts to my head will accumulate to hasten the onset of cruel neurological diseases such as dementia. I'm fully in favour of the FA decision and I hope that all governing bodies take the same stance. I would be in favour of taking heading out of the game entirely at all levels, but I understand that seismic shifts like that make people feel very uneasy…… perhaps the FA trial is the first step in the journey. I cringe whenever I see a young player head the ball, just as I would if I saw a young boxer receive a heavy right hand…… all I can vision is the brain being shaken within the hard protective skull. Interestingly there are virtual reality programs ready for release that will try and teach children to header a football, without having to header a football. Keep your eyes open for them. I know there will be people out there who will be saying this is another example of ‘snowflake' culture, but I disagree strongly. This is a huge decision to take, to fundamentally change the most played game on the planet…… Will it ultimately change the type of player we see excelling on the pitch? Will we find the typical tall strong centre half become redundant? Will the game become more technical? Or will the long ball become more effective and more difficult to defend? I think we're on the edge of an extremely exciting time for football, one that requires change in order to reduce the risk of our children and grandchildren becoming unable to live a full healthy and happy life due to the sport that they once loved playing, totally unaware that it could slowly take away everything precious to them. Would Jeff...

A rural medical centre that pleaded with the Immigration Minister to help retain their young migrant GP is baffled to see residency reportedly granted to convicted criminals.Ōtaki GP Dr Harding Richards, originally from Wales, left New Zealand in June after a year waiting in limbo to lodge a residency application.Because of Covid's impact on the immigration office, the Government suspended Expressions of Interest (EOI) selections for the skilled migrant category (SMC) last year, closing a pathway to residency for many migrants.Reeling from the loss of the young doctor – who had 1354 patients registered to him - Ōtaki Medical Practice was forced to close its doors to new patients over a busy winter.Last week Newshub reported Associate Immigration minister Phil Twyford had granted residency to three convicted criminals – with 10 convictions between them - since December.Ōtaki Medical Centre Chief executive Kiwa Raureti told Nick Mills he was baffled when he saw the news.'It was really heartbreaking,' he said. Raureti said if they cannot get residency for Richards and other migrant GPs the Ōtaki Medical Centre is at risk.

This episode features Dr Eleanor Wilson (Nottingham Centre for the Advancement of Research in End of Life Care, School of Health Sciences, University of Nottingham Medical School, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK) Managing medications at home can be a complex task involving ordering, collecting, organising, storing and taking medications correctly. Medication work must take place alongside ongoing management of household tasks, the physical and emotional labour of caring for someone who is dying and the impending loss of that person. Family caregivers are often assumed to be willing and able to take on the role of supporting patients to manage their medications at home, yet many are themselves older adults with serious health problems or adult children with many other conflicting roles and responsibilities. Knowledge of the ways that managing medications adds to the considerable burden of care and work that must be undertaken when someone is seriously ill and dying at home. Family caregivers are increasingly expected to undertake complex and technical medication tasks formerly carried out by professionals, but with little if any training, supervision or support; this trend has been exacerbated by COVID-19. The work of managing medications is critical to enabling patients to remain at home at the end of life. Health care professionals will benefit from a greater understanding of the complexities of medications management undertaken by patients and families in order to identify and tailor the support they can provide. Substantial reduction in the complexity and bureaucracy of Health and Social Care services is needed for them to be navigable for patients and families managing medications at the end of life. The lack of presence of Community Pharmacists in this research suggests there may be a greater role for them in supporting patients and families to manage medications at home.

Roy L Hales/ CKTZ News - TELUS most likely did not anticipate any Cortes Island reactions when it sprayed herbicides over its property in Mansons Landing. “I was just outraged. In this day and age, who is going out there and spraying their whole property, every square metre of it, with poison. And why weren't we notified?” said Cortes Island naturalist George Sirk. According to the notice on their fence, TELUS used two substances (1) VP 480 is for selective weed control and the producer warns "May cause an allergic skin reaction. Causes eye irritation" and also "Material is moderately toxic to aquatic organisms on an acute basis" (2) Banvel VM is a commercial herbicide which the producer states “controls deciduous and coniferous brush species and broadleaf weeds in pasture and rangeland, and non-cropland areas, such as roadsides, hydro, pipeline and railway rights-of-way, airports, military bases, wasteland and similar non-cropland areas, as well as broadleaf weeds in established turf.” It should not come into contact "with skin, eyes, and clothing" and is "toxic to aquatic organisms and non-target terrestrial plants." All of the grass within their compound, and for a foot or so outside the chain link fence, is dead. At this point, no Mansons Landing residents are known to have received prior letters of notification. TELUS did not publish notices on the Tideline, Cortes Marketer, Cortes Currents, Cortes Radio or any other local media outlet. Nor has TELUS responded to Cortes Currents queries about the affair. Cortes Island naturalist George Sirk discovered the incident and gives us an overview of the environmental impacts, in his own unique manner of speaking. As the ‘dead zone' extends a foot beyond TELUS' fence, Sirk asks if this is public land and did TELUS' permit include spraying on it? What about the snakes, spiders and other insects on TELUS' property? “It is peak nesting season for all the birds. Right across the street from the street, there is a White Crowned Sparrow. The White Crowned Sparrow is a seed eater. It would probably go in there and get the seeds that are being cut down. Or the insects that are there: the ones that survive if this stuff kills insects. And it is not just the Sparrows, there are other birds in the area. The Swanson Thrushes, for instance, are beautiful singers and would feed through that area. So here we are nesting season and they are spraying!” said Sirk. “That is ridiculous, in 2021 to spray in nesting season!” Cortes Island School, Medical Centre and the Cortes Senior's village are just up Beasley road. “In their notice it says they sprayed at 1 PM. So did they notify the school to make sure that the kids did not go outside? You may say 300 or 400 metres, that's a long way - no, it is not a long way. Beasley is a wind tunnel, going right up the road,” said Sirk. There may also be drainage issues. “Right at the edge of the property is a whopping big ditch. The water comes Bealey Road and right past their property. So just a few beyond the sprayed area is that ditch. Where is that ditch going? Across the property on the other side of Rexford Road and into the ocean. What's down there” the clam beds, the oyster beds and all the marine life that is there as well…” said Sirk. TELUS intends to erect a cell phone tower on this site: so are they going to build a foundation for it? If so, what are they going to do with all the contaminated soil? What about any residue left behind? (There is much, much more in the podcast.) Photo of TELUS' notice (posted inside the fence) - Roy L Hales photo

According to statistics from the World Health Organization many countries in Southeast Asia have a significantly lower ratio of doctors to general population when compared to countries like the U.S.A. and China, only Singapore comes close with 2.3 doctors per 1.000 people. However Indonesia and Thailand have a ratio of just 0.4 doctors per 1,000 people whilst other Southeast Asia countries are higher, with Vietnam at 0.8, the Philippines at 1.2, Malaysia at 1.6 per 1,000.With increasing life expectancy and challenges such as the Covid 19 pandemic is healthcare in Southeast Asia heading towards a crisis? And how can advancing technology such as Health IT and Telehealth alleviate the pressure and increase the impact of the human workforce. And what can startups do to support the healthcare industry in S.E.A?To answer these questions, I speak to Dr Tan Hui Ling, Managing Director of Bagan Specialist Centre (BSC) and Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre (OMSMC), for her insights.

Michael Sheen explores Aneurin Bevan's roots in Tredegar. A spectre is haunting Tredegar. It feels a little like that at least. This town high in the South Wales Valleys is understandably proud of its most famous son and makes the most of his memory. Aneurin Bevan was born in Tredegar in 1897. And he was the local MP there until his death in 1960. Memories of Bevan still populate the streets. Aneurin Bevan was a coalminer at the age of 13. He was a troublemaker with a stutter. An autodidact. He won a scholarship from his union for further study in London. He joined committees. He was a town councillor, then a district councillor, before reaching Westminster in 1929, where his greatest legacy must surely be his central role in the founding of the NHS in 1948. The civic religion of the NHS. And he fought for it in the image of Tredegar. It's perhaps ironic then, that it's in Aneurin Bevan's home town that the effect of the NHS was felt least of all. By that time an estimated 96% of the town's population was covered anyway, by a voluntary scheme: the Workmen's Medical Aid Society. This is what Aneurin Bevan was referring to when he said, "All I am doing is extending to the entire population of Britain the benefits we had in Tredegar for a generation or more. We are going to 'Tredegar-ise' you." He said that while he was battling to establish the system nationwide. Or he said it with a jeer to Winston Churchill across the dispatch box in the Commons. Or maybe he wrote it somewhere. Anyway, it's etched on a plaque outside the old Town Hall in Tredegar. The now dilapidated town hall, just down the street from one of Bevan's old meeting places, which is now a DWP Assessment Centre, itself just down the hill from the Medical Centre, which has been trying unsuccessfully for months and months to recruit new staff. Those details shouldn't be the beginning or the end of anyone's image of Tredegar. It's more various and interesting - and more beautiful - than they might suggest. But those details, and others like them, do lead eager programme-makers to feel pleased with themselves when, after spending a necessarily small amount of time in the town, they reverse that old slogan of Bevan's and ask, idly it must be said: who is going to Tredegar-ise Tredegar today? Jo prioritizes learning about a patient’s history during the initial evaluation because it can serve as a roadmap for treatment. Jo has found that, “The biggest investment of my time is hearing how everything started and what the story has been from there.” Jo believes patient history to be more valuable than other evaluation method as she states, “The history tells me far more than any clinical test.” Symptom modification can be an important psychological tool to encourage more confidence in a patients shoulder capabilities. Jo stresses, “It is very empowering for the patient because it shows them that if we make their muscles work differently they are stable.” Jo’s treatment protocol includes a variety of functional exercises which utilize external cues to promote motor learning and neuroplasticity. Jo believes there is room for physical therapists to get creative with these treatments and that sometimes, “We kind of undermine the artistry of what we do.” Jo has found that improving her communication skills has led directly to improved physical therapy treatment outcomes. Jo reminds us that, “This is about being human. Communication underpins everything we do… Patients are just the biggest source of information and actually they give us all of the clues and give us the language to use.” For more information on Jo: Jo Gibson Grad.Dip.Phys MSc.(Adv.Pract) MCSP.
