Alec Klein and Eric Kampmann return for a new segment of Trail Thoughts. In this episode, they reflect on the poorly run Presidential election. The two points us to scripture which says, “My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” Eric expands on this verse by telling us of his interaction with an African missionary. How can we trust God to deliver us despite our desire for substitutes to His will?

The two talk about their experiences of living in New York, a city that has been turned into a virtual ghost town thanks to the pandemic. “Cities are fragile things,” Eric says as he reflects on how the once vibrant city of New York has fallen. Can New York recover from the shutdown? What can we learn from the changes that are taking place in some of our country’s major urban centers?

David Gornoski comments on the news that President Donald Trump and his wife has tested positive for the COVID virus. Also in the show, Alec Klein and Eric Kampmann return to the show with another segment of Trail Thoughts. Eric talks about his hiking experiences and the important lessons he has derived from them. Alec agrees with Eric on the need to view our lives as stories or pieces of art. What do we do when we feel lost and when we can’t make it on our own? How do we find our identities in today’s highly politicized world?

David Gornoski starts off the show by explaining how our economic system cannot be called a free-market due to the numerous regulatory hurdles put in place by the government. “We’ve been conditioned like Pavlovian dogs,” David says as he points to the inversion in our economy which says freedom is slavery and slavery is freedom. We don’t need inversion, we need innovation. Alec talks about what motivated him to start defending the wrongfully convicted while Eric expands on the importance of storytelling.
