Each tartan pattern was created by a UA student. According to the creator of "Crimson and White Clan - The University of Alabama", "this tartan represents The University of Alabama not only because of the colors used, but also because of what each color and line stands for. From the buildings to our mascot, a variety of themes are represented. Walking around campus and noticing things that I normally don't look at opened my eyes to some of my inspiration. A lot of it came from learning history about the school that I had never known before." The creator of "Family Tides" says "This tartan represents the culture, tradition, pride, and most importantly, Unity, as it reflects upon The University of Alabama Family. This design is greatly inspired by the home of the Crimson Tide Family...Our campus! Particularly the Quad, because it is the heart of UA's campus in more ways than one. I also wanted to design a tartan that would stand out from the norm, yet still represent UA as one, whole, united family." The creator of "We Are Crimson" says "When I think of the color crimson, I think of The University of Alabama and the tradition and pride that are cornerstones of this university... Anyone that has ever attended school here, taught a class, been to a game, or supported the Tide from across the state, knows the strong feeling of "crimson pride"."
