On May 6, 2020, Social Media erupted with news breaking about a new video showing the murder of Ahmed Arbery. The response was varied, but one thing I kept seeing was people saying "God does not see color!" But, is that true? Let's talk about that. It’s Saturday night. I’m laying in bed, everyone is asleep, and two incidents from the week keep replaying in my mind involving each of my sons oddly (well perhaps not too oddly) leading me to some thoughts about discipleship.
I am joined by *Jason Villanueva* of the Salty Dogs Podcast ( https://www.saltydogspodcast.com/ ) on this special bonus collaborative episode where we discuss what it’s like being a Christian who deals with anger and trying to survive the Social Media trap. We give our best practices (that we too are trying to do as well) and some resources as to help YOU along your path to Social Media freedom. *Opening Music:* “Angry Dance” by Simon Panrucker *Outro Music:* “Clear Progress” by Scott Holmes
For years I’ve been writing on the consumer mindset that has befallen the Western Church world over the last several decades (Check out articles like this one ( https://eagerfortruth.com/2018/09/18/20-signs-of-a-consumer-driven-church-culture/ ) and this one ( https://eagerfortruth.com/2019/01/14/the-tiny-house-movement-a-big-lesson-for-the-american-church/ ) to read more about the current state of the Church), and the serious impact it has had on the effectiveness and fruitfulness of the Church. It is no secret that the American Church, especially, has grown so enamored with the idea of being cool and big that, as a whole, we’ve lost sight of what the Church really should look like.
I had a thought when I appeared as a guest on the Salty Dogs Podcast ( https://www.saltydogspodcast.com/blog/how-to-deal-with-church-hurt ) back in Februrary, "I cannot hold others accountable for the wounds they inflict on me." This is a blog expanding on that thought.
There are many casualties with divorce that go beyond just those who are splitting up. If you are going through a divorce, been through a divorce, thinking about a divorce, or know someone who has had a divorce, this just might be the blog for you.
Our words can get us into a lot of trouble. They really do matter. Jesus thinks they matter, so should we.
Back in January of 2020, it made “ Christian News ( https://www.christianheadlines.com/blog/pastor-stops-church-service-to-have-woman-with-noisy-child-escorted-out.html ) ” that a pastor of a church in Tennessee asked a woman to take her child out of the service from the stage because the baby made a noise. This is but one of a myriad of stories as it relates to age-segregated-worship.
Long before the Mandalorian told us that "this is the way", Jesus came and claimed to be "The Way" (and the Truth and the Life). But there has become a "new way" of behavior that has creeped into the church leading many a Christian into haphazardly badmouthing other churches. This, is not the way.
