Alan Morrissey was joined on Tuesday's Morning Focus by Dr Susan Leahy from the School of Law at the University of Limerick, who is leading a research project looking at the experiences of victim-survivors during sexual offence trials in Ireland.  The project, titled Lived Realities, aims to better understand what people experience as they go through the criminal justice process, and how that experience might be improved through changes to law and policy.  Dr Leahy is also currently seeking people who have been through the trial process to take part in the research. County Clare's oral history is proving to be far richer and more extensive than previously known, with more than 50 significant collections of recordings already identified as part of a county-wide audit.   From recordings dating back to the 1920s and '30s to interviews held privately in homes, the project is uncovering voices and stories from across Clare and beyond.   Joining Alan Morrissey to tell us more were Tomás Mac Conmara, oral historian, and Dr Críostóir Mac Carthaigh. Ireland is facing a major demographic shift, with more than one million people expected to be over the age of 65 by the end of this decade, while the population aged 85 and over is projected to grow by 162% by 2045. Nursing Homes Ireland is warning that the country is running out of time to prepare, saying we need a national conversation about how we will provide care and support for an ageing population. For a GP's perspective on this, Alan Morrissey spoke with with the Lahinch-based member of the IMO's GP Committee, Dr Michael Kelleher. Alan was also joined by Tadhg Daly, CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland, to discuss the scale of the challenge, the pressure on nursing-home capacity, and what needs to happen to prepare for the years ahead. This Sunday, people across Clare will come together as part of Walk in Our Shoes 2026, a grassroots initiative calling for a family court system that is transparent, trauma-informed and trustworthy.  In Ennis, participants will walk from Ennis Cathedral to Ennis Courthouse, carrying children's shoes as a symbol of the childhoods affected by family court decisions.  Joining Alan Morrissey to explain the initiative and why families across Ireland are taking part was Anna Kavanagh, a coordinator with Walk in Our Shoes. Kontrola u gynekologa totiž není startovní pistole, po které se musí všechno vrátit do starých kolejí. Tělo se hojí různě, hormony pracují, při kojení může přijít suchost, někdy bolí jizva, pánevní dno může být oslabené, ale klidně také příliš stažené. A i dokonale zahojené tělo ještě neznamená, že je žena připravená na sex.Ostatně co je vlastně „sex po porodu“? Musí to být první penetrace? Nebo může být návratem k sexualitě už první společná masturbace, orál, mazlení, erotická hračka nebo večer, kdy se jeden druhého konečně dotýkáte zase jako milenci a ne jen jako dva unavení rodiče?S Aly jsme se bavili také o tom, jak zvláštní proměnou může projít vztah ženy k vlastnímu tělu. Prsa, která byla erotogenní zónou, najednou krmí dítě. Na těle mohou zůstat jizvy, strie a další změny. A po celém dni kojení, chování a uspávání může večerní partnerův dotek narazit na jednoduché: „už na mě dneska prosím nikdo nesahejte.“ Ne proto, že by přestal být přitažlivý, ale protože vlastního těla měla žena celý den pro sebe možná úplné minimum.A co druhá strana? Partner se může bát, že ženě ublíží. Neví, kdy už je v pořádku projevit sexuální zájem. Sex mu může chybět a současně nechce vytvářet tlak. Jak vůbec říct „chybí mi sex“, aby druhý neslyšel „dlužíš mi sex“?Probrali jsme i první penetraci, která může být takovým malým „novým poprvé“. Proč bolest není něco, co se má párkrát přetrpět, proč se může najednou hodit lubrikant a kdy už má smysl řešit gynekologa nebo fyzioterapii pánevního dna.A samozřejmě jsme nemohli vynechat naši oblíbenou parketu = erotické hračky. Mohou pomoct ženě znovu objevovat vlastní sexualitu nejdřív o samotě? Je lepší začít externí stimulací než penetrací? A proč rozhodně neplatí, že každá pomůcka prodávaná jako „Kegel“ automaticky napraví pánevní dno?Dostali jsme se ale i dál od samotného těla. K únavě, psychice, porodnímu traumatu, rozdílnému libidu a k tomu, jak snadno se z milenců může stát perfektně fungující rodičovský tým. Má se po dětech sex plánovat? Je sex rande zoufale neromantické, nebo naopak jedna z cest, jak si na sebe vůbec najít čas? A co když jeden sex chce a druhý ne týdny nebo měsíce?Nezapomněli jsme ani na antikoncepci a stále přežívající „kojím, takže nemůžu otěhotnět“. Můžete. On fraud, US authorities advanced major enforcement actions, including Abbott Laboratories' $384 million False Claims Act settlement, pandemic relief fraud convictions, and extraditions targeting the Black Axe criminal network. On market abuse, developments include insider dealing proceedings against a UK City lawyer, securities fraud charges against a New York hedge fund founder, and guilty pleas in a $3.7 billion insider trading scheme. In the words of Terence McKenna, since the rise of western monotheism the human experience has been marginalized. We have been told that we were unimportant in the cosmic drama when one considers the power of creation of the one God. But we now know as the global temperatures rise and glaciers melt from the burning of fossil fuels and the feedback mechanisms associated with the greenhouse effect: the impact of human culture on the Earth is massive. So how do we reverse the course of destruction created out of the human imagination? Some have postulated plant medicines learned from Indigenous societies of the Americas have a way to reintegrate humans into the processes of the Earth to heal the sickness and warming all around. In this show from 2024, we explore human symbiotic relationships with plants and chemicals in the sacred peyote medicine used by the Native American Church in the US and in societies in the mountains of Mexico. We look at the work of several ethnobotanists who also studied the plants and the rites associated with ayahuasca or yage in South America. Richard Evans Schultes and Terence McKenna researched the ancient human relationship with chemicals that would open the doorway to the divine, and perhaps a solution for saving our troubled world. This show aims to explore the powerful potential to replace abuse of illegal drugs with a shamanic understanding, insistence on community, reverence for nature, and increased self-awareness that can re-orient people to heal the fractured relationships with our communities and ecosystems. Ennistymon Activist and lawyer, Leigh Brosnan was one of more than 170 Irish lawyers who signed a statement of objection ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to Ireland. The statement raised serious concerns about US and Israeli military actions, the application of international law, the use of Shannon Airport, and the role Ireland should play in supporting international institutions such as the International Criminal Court. The signatories argued that Ireland has a responsibility to uphold the rule of law and to challenge what they described as unlawful uses or threats of force. Quin native Declan McEvoy is currently in Ukraine and is making his way towards Kharkiv, where he'll spend the next two weeks volunteering with Hell's Kitchen, providing hot meals and humanitarian support close to the front line. Declan has previously spoken about the nightly drone and missile attacks he witnessed there, and the challenge of returning to normal life in Ireland afterwards. Ireland's student accommodation crisis continues to deepen, with thousands of students struggling to find somewhere affordable to live as the new college year begins.   Students' unions say the situation is getting worse, with rising rents and a shortage of purpose-built accommodation leaving many students facing difficult choices about their education.  Meanwhile, Clare's opposition TD claims access to third level education is at risk of becoming a 'two tiered system' due to the accommodation crisis.  It comes in the wake of Students at the University of Galway staging a sleep out in protest against the lack of legislation around digs accommodation.  The lastest figures show the average yearly rent for students in Limerick and Galway was above €16,000.  Shannon Sinn Féin TD, Donna McGettigan, says additional hidden costs are pushing more people away from third level education. Alan Morrissey was joined by Emma Hogan, President of TUS Students' Union, Seán de Búrca, President of Comhaltas na Mac Léinn, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe, and Eva McCormack, President of UL Student Life to discuss what students are experiencing on the ground, and what they believe the Government needs to do to tackle the crisis. Michael Rush has enjoyed a lifelong connection with golf and now, 67 years after recording a remarkable score of 67 in 1959, he is hoping to return to his home village as the Walker Cup comes to Lahinch.  Born in Lahinch in 1941, Michael, who now lives in Nottingham in the UK, has many memories of growing up in Lahinch and playing golf in the area.   With the Walker Cup being played at Lahinch Golf Club, it's a fitting opportunity have a chat with Michael and look back on his golfing days and hear the story behind that memorable 67. Ireland has one of the lowest levels of CCTV use in Europe, but that's set to change, with Garda security cameras expected to increase significantly in the coming years. Here in Clare, there have also been calls for greater use of CCTV to tackle anti-social behaviour and persistent illegal dumping. So, is Ireland too cautious when it comes to CCTV, or are concerns around privacy and GDPR justified? The number of Ukrainians living in State-provided accommodation in Clare has fallen by more than 400 over the past year, and that number is set to fall further as the Government begins to phase out hotel accommodation. Four Clare properties are due to lose their State contracts at the end of October, affecting a further 221 people. So, what does the change mean for Ukrainians who have made a home here, and are there enough supports and housing available as they move towards independent living? A new study has highlighted the often unseen mental health pressures experienced by members of farm families across Ireland.   The Farm FaMHealth project, led by Dublin City University, found that spouses, parents and children can experience similar challenges to primary farmers, while many delay seeking support until they reach a crisis point.   The research has now led to a new preventative programme aimed at helping farm families recognise stress, support each other and seek help earlier.   Joining Alan Morrissey was Kilmaley native Dr Sinéad O'Keeffe, a researcher with the Farm FaMHealth study, who is also hosting a free local training session in Clare next week. Illegal e-scooters could be seized and destroyed under new plans being considered by the Government.    It follows changes announced earlier this week banning e-scooters for under 18s, with a further clampdown expected in September.    In August, higher fines will come into effect to get a seized scrambler returned.    Junior Transport Minister Sean Canney says he's looking at similar fines for e-scooter users.   The changes come amid growing concern over serious injuries involving young people and increasing reports of dangerous and antisocial use.     But how will these new rules be enforced, and will they make our roads and streets any safer?     To discuss that, Alan Morrissey was joined by Superintendent Eddie Golden, Traffic Superintendent for the Clare/Tipperary Garda Division.
