More Irish people have been to Spain than Clare! That's the remarkable finding from new research by Airbnb. It reveals that, while 74% of Irish people holiday abroad at least once a year, almost half - 48% - of people in Ireland want to see and explore more of their own country and almost 1 in 10 would like to visit Clare for the first time. To help Clare welcome more visitors to the region and spread the benefits of tourism through rural communities, Airbnb has announced the Rural Tourism Fund - committing €100,000 in grants to support innovative tourism projects in rural Irish communities. Projects supporting local tourism in County Clare could receive up to €10,000 in grant funding through the Fund. Two serious accidents on farms or relating to farm machinery this week have once again highlighted the issue of farm safety during one of the busiest periods of the year for farmers. A teenage boy who was a passenger in a tractor in Leitrim lost his life in a crash, while separately in Cork, a five-year-old was hospitalised following an incident involving a cow. Clare is set to see the delivery of a number of new-build social houses under a new Government funding allocation. It forms part of a €436m nationwide investment,announced by Housing Minister James Browne. 231 homes promised under the 82 new projects will be built cumulatively across Clare and 12 other counties. Meanwhile Clare is set to receive a share of €325M, granted to local authorities under the Social Housing Second-Hand Acquisitions Programme to provide support to counteract homelessness in the county. Jason Williamson is no stranger to taking on epic challenges. The Six West Aviation founder, who is based in Shannon, will undertake an incredible 4,000km run across Australia later this year. The run, which will surely test the limits of human endurance, will see Jason covering an average of two marathons per day, over the course of 50 days! In the words of Terence McKenna, since the rise of western monotheism the human experience has been marginalized. We have been told that we were unimportant in the cosmic drama when one considers the power of creation of the one God. But we now know as the global temperatures rise and glaciers melt from the burning of fossil fuels and the feedback mechanisms associated with the greenhouse effect: the impact of human culture on the Earth is massive. So how do we reverse the course of destruction created out of the human imagination? Some have postulated plant medicines learned from Indigenous societies of the Americas have a way to reintegrate humans into the processes of the Earth to heal the sickness and warming all around. In this show from 2024, we explore human symbiotic relationships with plants and chemicals in the sacred peyote medicine used by the Native American Church in the US and in societies in the mountains of Mexico. We look at the work of several ethnobotanists who also studied the plants and the rites associated with ayahuasca or yage in South America. Richard Evans Schultes and Terence McKenna researched the ancient human relationship with chemicals that would open the doorway to the divine, and perhaps a solution for saving our troubled world. This show aims to explore the powerful potential to replace abuse of illegal drugs with a shamanic understanding, insistence on community, reverence for nature, and increased self-awareness that can re-orient people to heal the fractured relationships with our communities and ecosystems. Motorists are being urged to update their driver numbers on their car insurance policies. The appeal from AA Ireland comes, as a legal requirement is set to take effect in just a few weeks' time. Many drivers remain unaware that failure to provide their driver number in advance of their renewal date by the 31st of March will mean they cannot renew their car insurance. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is calling for the creation of a free, state-run database to help second-hand car buyers access vital vehicle history information. In a newly launched report, the consumer watchdog aims to "close the knowledge gap" by providing details such as mileage readings, write-off status, past accidents, and safety recalls. Currently, much of this data is either unavailable or only accessible for a fee from commercial providers. The CCPC argues that greater transparency would protect consumers and improve road safety by reducing the number of dangerous or misrepresented vehicles on Irish roads. Self-Regulation: Controlling Your Behaviors, Part 2. This is episode 741 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. In the first episode on Self-Regulation, I shared some thoughts about what self-regulation means and how it appears in the classroom. (Episode 737). I use the term in referring to you the adult in the classroom keeping control of your behaviors. I also shared some thoughts about things that you can do to help keep you in control of you. Today, I am sharing a specific strategy. It sounds simple enough but at times we can get frustrated with behaviors that the kids have previously exhibited and so we always associate those behaviors with that particular kid. To overcome always affiliating the bad with those one or two students something that works really well is to post an image, drawing, or place an object in the room that you will see that is there to remind you of something that student does well, or to make you think about a calming/happy thought, or to think of some specific positive  characteristic the child exhibits most times. By doing this you will help counteract any negative thoughts that you immediately go to that are associated with previous bad behavior by that student. You will see the picture, the drawing, the object and say to yourself, "Remember you put that there to be patient with this child." Does that make sense? Try it.
