On Monday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that in 2027, the United Kingdom will ban children under 16 from accessing major social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, X, and YouTube (but not YouTube Kids). Several other countries have passed similar bans, but the UK's measure will go further, blocking features like live-streaming and communicating with strangers while gaming. Furthermore, Starmer said the regulations will restrict access to artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots designed to simulate romantic or sexual relationships for users under 18 and may also impose curfews on social media use for under-18s.Ad-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!You can read today's podcast here and today's “Under the radar” story here and today's “Have a nice day” story here. You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. What if the feeling you keep talking yourself out of is the most reliable thing about you? Today's guest has been listening to a voice most people would have dismissed, medicated, or kept very quiet about. Instead, he followed it for seven decades through a Grammy, a Billboard number one, and a 30-year run with one of the most celebrated trios in jazz history. He also followed it on the morning of September 11th, 2001, when it told him something was very wrong with a flight his girlfriend was about to board. She canceled. The flight was American Airlines 77.It hit the Pentagon. But that's not even the most extraordinary thing John Novello tells us today. In this conversation, we go places most interviewers never take him. We find out what it actually felt like to roll out of his body, see himself lying in bed, and watch his dog flee in terror. We find out what he saw when he floated through the roof and kept going. We find out what his late wife said to him when he found her, and why she sent him back. We also find out why he's lost two wives to the other side. and what one of them said when he visited her there too.Along the way, John breaks down exactly why the Law of Attraction keeps failing people, what the real difference is between being the power and distributing it, and what it means to actually recruit the Invisible Architect into your life rather than just affirm your way into disappointment. This one goes deep. And somehow, it still ends with a Maxwell House joke.Connect with John Novello:https://johnnovelloauthor.com/  - Author sitehttps://go.johnnovelloauthor.com/register - Elite Mentor sitehttps://go.johnnovelloauthor.com/booking - Book a life strategy session with JohnWatch this one on on NRTV: newrealitytv.comThe Skeptic Metaphysicians is a spiritual awakening podcast for open-minded thinkers who refuse to check their critical thinking at the door. You can watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/lq-8ZhnYjjkThe rocket of right thinking speeds around planet normal gathering the news tsunami of this week… Allison surprises Liam by AGREEING with Sir Keir Starmer's social media ban for under 16 year olds, as she states in her column this week. The addictive and toxic nature of smartphones has ruined children's attention spans and their “in real life" connections and this ban could help them reconnect with the elusive parchment joy of books.Liam strongly echoes Allison's stance, arguing that tech platforms expose children to "relentless bullying" and corporate exploitation. Shifting to finance, he forecasts an imminent rise in global interest rates, pointing to rising producer price inflation and rate hikes in Australia and Japan as clear indicators that borrowing costs are headed back up.Stowing away this week is return guest Bernie Spofforth, who tells us about her experience of being questioned by police due to a retweet she posted on X. She has released a book, out on the 25th June, to discuss how Government overreach, police and NGO's have worn down democracy…HighlightsPlanet Normal: The Social media ban will free our kids from the addictive and toxic smartphoneBernie Spofforth's Legal Fight: Detained for 36 hours over a Southport-related retweet, Spofforth reveals she is suing the police in the High Court this November for gross overreach.Institutional Failures: The hosts condemn public bodies for failing to protect victims in the Preston Davey and Nottingham tragedies due to a culture of "suicidal empathy".Sign up to our most popular newsletter, From the Editor. Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well

We've been told forever that women are the only natural caregivers, but neuroscience shows that's just not true; men actually go through huge biological shifts when they become dads, too.Sitting down with Emily for this episode is clinical psychologist Darby Saxbe, who chats to us about her book Dad Brain: The New Science of Fatherhood and How It Shapes Men's Lives, which challenges neo-traditional assumptions about parenting roles. Their conversation highlights the biological reality of fatherhood, exploring how men experience hormonal shifts, brain changes, and even paternal postpartum depression. Darby also uncovers how hands-on parenting trends are shifting across generations, the connection between relationship conflict and a dad's mental health, and how policy changes like paid paternity leave can transform modern family dynamics.Listen and Learn:How the modern science of fatherhood rewrites traditional gender roles, why the "Dad Brain" is biologically wired for caregiving, and how millennial and Gen Z fathers are redefining the rewards and divides of modern parentingThe concept of "facultative adaptation" and how it shapes the natural variability of fatherhood How a father's brain and body prepare for parenthood during pregnancyHow a couple's relationship conflict during pregnancy can directly impact the labor and delivery experience Why the prenatal period is a critical window for couples to proactively strengthen their communication, navigate relationship shifts, and better manage the stress and emotional toll of childbirth and early parenthood The ways postpartum depression manifests in new dads How a father's hormone levels naturally drop after birth and why high testosterone can unexpectedly strain romantic relationships and parenting The unique benefits of the father-child relationship Why we need to view men's mental health through a family lens How progressive policy shifts are working to empower and destigmatize active fatherhood Resources: Dad Brain: The New Science of Fatherhood and How It Shapes Men's Lives https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9781250387523 Darby's Website: https://www.darbysaxbe.comDarby's Substack: https://darbysaxbe.substack.comConnect with Darby on Social Media: https://www.linkedin.com/in/darbysaxbehttps://www.instagram.com/darbysaxbephd/Behind Every Dad Bod is a Healthy Dad Brain https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/06/opinion/dad-brain-health-fatherhood.htmlAbout Darby SaxbeDarby Saxbe, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and tenured full professor of psychology at the University of Southern California. She has published over eighty scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and secured major research grants from the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation. You are not defined by the hardest thing you have been through, the worst decision you have made, or the darkest season of your life. After more than 33 years as a trauma-informed psychotherapist, Scott Stolarick has sat across from people carrying pain most of the world never sees. From psychiatric hospitals and county jails to private practice, Scott has worked with people who have experienced trauma, people who have caused trauma, and people who are trying to understand why their anxiety, depression, anger, or substance use keeps showing up in their lives. This conversation dives into what it really means to understand the whole person, not just the behaviour, diagnosis, or moment that brought them into the room. Scott shares why trauma is often part of the mental health equation, how depression and anxiety can change the way people experience life, and why compassion matters when we are trying to understand someone's story. He also talks about coping, substance use, social media, connection, skill building, and the importance of asking for help before the weight becomes too heavy to carry alone. Through his wisdom, experience, and deeply human approach, Scott reminds us that every person is made up of many pieces. And when you take a step back, you begin to see the whole picture. Guest Bio Scott is a licensed, trauma-informed psychotherapist with 33 years of experience practicing in the state of Illinois. Throughout his career, he has worked as a clinician, administrator, and clinical supervisor, supporting individuals through trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, and complex life experiences. He also holds Management and Leadership Certifications from the University of Notre Dame and Cornell University. Scott is currently the owner of Mosaic Pathway Counseling in Gurnee, Illinois, where he brings a compassionate, whole-person approach to helping people understand their story, build healthier coping skills, and move toward healing. You'll hear About Why trauma is often part of the mental health equation How depression, anxiety, anger, and substance use can connect to deeper pain Why understanding the whole person matters more than judging one behaviour How self-medication can become a warning sign when it is used to cope Why skill building is an important part of managing mental health How social media and technology can quietly affect connection and wellbeing Chapters 00:00 Welcome and Episode Introduction 02:30 Scott's Career in Trauma-Informed Therapy 04:45 Why Trauma Matters in Mental Health 09:00 Why Hurt People May Hurt Others or Themselves 11:15 Seeing the Human Behind the Behaviour 14:30 Trauma, Social Media, and a More Stressed World 17:30 How Trauma Connects to Mental Health 20:30 Understanding Depression and Anxiety 24:30 Medication, Self-Medication, and Coping 29:45 When Substance Use Becomes a Warning Sign 31:30 Building Healthier Coping Skills 34:00 Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health 37:30 Social Media, AI, and Disconnection 40:30 Learning to Relax Without a Screen 45:45 Reaching Out for Help 48:15 Scott's Message for Anyone Struggling 49:45 Final Reflections and Key Takeaways Chuck's Challenge This week, take one step back before you judge someone else's story — or your own. Look beyond the behaviour. Look beyond the one mistake, the one hard season, or the one piece that seems easiest to focus on. Ask yourself what else might be part of the picture. And if you are the one struggling, remember this: you are not weak for needing help. You are human. Because as Scott shared, we are all mosaics. We are made up of many pieces, and the whole picture is always bigger than one painful moment. Their conversations cover a variety of topics including technology, unity in the Church, racism, and parenting. Grouped by similar ages, these 12 individuals share their unique views, opinions, and convictions based on their generational upbringing and views of the world. Ranging from ages 16 to 81, we're covering 5 different generations with 16 different guests. In this episode, Generation Z Group talks about technology, social media, personal phone use, when kids should access social media, AI, and concerns about all the above. Bios of our Gen-Z contributors: Brandon AllonBrandon Allon has been a photographer for seven years, four of which have been with Seacoast. A third-generation photographer, he has also traveled to five countries outside the United States. Before photography, Brandon spent ten years in music — an experience that took him all the way to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Outside of his creative pursuits, he enjoys running and table tennis.Laela GriffinLaela Griffin is a recent high school graduate living in a small mountain town in North Carolina. She loves the outdoors, serving others, and traveling, and plans to attend Appalachian State University next year to major in Business. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Laela is so passionate about root beer that she once crashed her car over it.Hayes HerlongHayes Herlong is a 24-year-old from Charleston with a love for Jesus, surfing, adventure, and her one-eyed cat. She is currently pursuing ministry through the Residency Program at Seacoast Church, where she serves in youth ministry and is passionate about helping middle and high school students know Jesus and grow in their faith — a community she has called home for many years.Hayes also has a deep heart for global missions, having served internationally in Haiti, Togo, and Zambia, as well as stateside in Orlando and New York City. She loves learning about new cultures, meeting new people, and stepping into experiences that stretch her faith. That adventurous spirit once led her to jump and swing off the 420-foot bridge at Victoria Falls. Whether serving students, traveling the world, or trying something completely new, Hayes hopes her love for the Lord, people, and adventure will continue leading her to places where she can share the Gospel — and maybe keep her mom just a little nervous along the way.Abel WaltersAbel Walters is an 18-year-old rising senior at Palmetto Christian Academy and a recent graduate of 412 Leadership at Seacoast, where he now serves primarily on the prayer team and the teaching team in Custom. He has a passion for mission and ministry that he feels God has placed on his heart. Abel has played basketball all four years of high school, including travel ball, and also loves golf. His music taste skews older than his years — something his younger brothers don't quite understand yet.Abel is the oldest of four boys and the third of seven children overall. He's a big-time movie lover who will happily spend hours making the case for why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came remarkably close to being one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. Two days' notice. One email. "Are you available on the 15th at 7:30am to talk to Liz Kendall about some work she's doing." That's how this started. What followed was a morning inside Downing Street watching Keir Starmer announce a ban on social media for every child under 16 in the country — backed by a consultation of 116,000 responses, where 83% of parents said the risks outweigh the benefits and 90% backed a minimum age of 16.In this episode: the announcement itself, the room reaction (the applause said more than the press release did), my exchange with Starmer on Big Tech, Trump, and whether this ban is about his legacy or his leadership week, and then the interview I actually went there for — sitting down with Technology Secretary Liz Kendall to ask about Roblox, parents who are already maxed out, and a question that doesn't get asked enough in rooms like that: what this means for racism online in our community.I'll tell you straight — one of those answers didn't go far enough for me, and I say so.Then we get into the FAQs doing the rounds in every parenting group: is this digital ID by the back door, what's happening with VPNs, why doesn't this cover Roblox, what about dumbphones, and what's the actual timeline. This isn't a press release read back to you. Recently, as a single mother navigating a contested divorce, she began using AI tools to support her case because she could not afford a lawyer while facing her ex's legal team. She self-represented during an 11-day trial and learned firsthand that AI can sometimes generate inaccurate information. That experience inspired her to launch Alice in Legal Wonderland, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping self-represented litigants use AI more effectively and responsibly. While it can be easy for girls—and parents—to assume something is wrong, Melissa shares why one painful social moment does not automatically mean a friendship is broken or that a girl is struggling socially. In this episode, we explore:• Why feelings of exclusion can feel more intense during the summer• How social media can amplify friendship worries and comparison• Why emotionally validating your daughter matters more than immediately reassuring her• How to avoid catastrophizing normal friendship ups and downs• Ways parents can support emotional resilience during social disappointments• Why helping girls build confidence beyond friendships is so important• Simple ways to encourage healthy connection and perspectiveJoin Melissa for a reassuring conversation about helping your daughter navigate friendship disappointments with confidence, emotional resilience, and connection.Download the Quick Tips PDF of today's episode for future reference. If you know a parent who could benefit from this conversation, share this episode with them!
