Hey y'all, this is John Werst, he is a ministry leader at Lewis and Clark College but was a pastor at a church I attended which is where we met. This is such an interesting podcast. Although my goal was to talk about my concerns and questions about Christianity, we ended up going into much more meaningful and impactful conversations about love, forgiveness, letting go, and happiness. I know the word Christianity is a huge turn-off for many, as it is for me as well, but our conversations were so much more than that and I'm excited to share it with you. Read below to learn more about John and how to get into contact with him! • • • Pastor John Werst describes himself as a serious follower of Jesus but not an overly religious kinda guy who grew up in the midwest and graduated from the University of Missouri. After a 7-year stint in government, where he did speech writing & managed statewide programs, John began ministry work in 1990. While serving as a pastor, John got involved in outreach to young men on the Mizzou Tiger football team, working several years as team chaplain. In 2003, John relocated to the Pacific NW where he completed graduate theological training at Western Seminary in Portland. He then served as pastor at Dayspring Fellowship in the Salem-Keizer area for 13 years. About 10 years ago, John began transitioning from local church work to campus & community-focused outreach. He now has a dual focus: an urban campus outreach at Lewis & Clark College in Portland and a Ministry to Men (M2M) Network, specifically designed to help young men grow spiritually. As a Certified Professional Life Coach (CPC), John enjoys helping others consider the truth claims of Jesus and how to take practical steps to grow toward spiritual maturity.
