In this episode we talk with Emmy Award Winning Video Editor and Producer, Melissa Salpietra. We discussed her experience sustaining her work while also parenting two sons. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Melissa is a freelance Video Editor and filmmaker who recently won an Arts and Science Creative Renewal Fellowship from the Charlotte Arts and Science Council and is a two-time Emmy Award winner.

In episode five we talk with Todd Burge a touring musician and song writer from Parkersburg West Virginia. We host Todd in the WOUB studio and chat about the importance of self-promotion, how his children influence creativity, his innovative side project writing songs commissioned as gifts through yourgiftsong.com and of course…parenting.

Life's Soundtrack had the pleasure of interviewing writer & visual artist Alison Stine. Living in the foothills of Appalachia, Alison is raising her son and writes during every spare minute a single mom can grab: during her son's gymnastics lessons, on the playground or late into the evening. During this episode we discuss Alison's writing, being a single mother, activism, what happens when famous people retweet her work and, of course, parenting.

In this episode we sit down with Eric and Eliza Obenauf, owners of the indie Book Publisher, Two Dollar Radio, based out of Columbus Ohio. They successfully launched their brand new Head Quarters on Parsons Avenue in Fall of 2017. This hard working husband and wife team have spent the last decade cultivating the production of award winning books, films and their own Fly Over festival. Most importantly, they are building an intentional culture of creative independent art & community. We talked about the experience of having children a bit later in life, homeschooling each of their children for one school year, Mountain Stage's 35th Anniversary and how they juggle creative side projects on top of parenting and working non-stop.

Life's Soundtrack is a podcast devoted to sharing unique stories from different types of artists who are parents, and learn how they balance their work and the demands of parenting. By sharing stories we gain wisdom and strength that can inspire our own daily practices as creative people rearing children. If nothing else, by hearing the soundtrack of one another's lives we know we are in this messy world of parenting and creating together.
