A word from Sam: "An album completed the summer before I went off to college, this album supplies a surprisingly extensive and colorful account of my mental processes all through high school. It's not a rock opera (thank goodness), but it is a 'suite' of sorts. Some of the music reflects my obsession with Steve Reich at the time... but it is still very much rock music. The "hits" off the album are Breaking Free and The Places We Belong... The former got up to number 5 on the indie charts at http://www.soundclick.com (I really doubt that means much, but it was fun, yah?). The latter is a goofy graduation song of sorts... bittersweetness. I really like Far and Wide a lot!"

This EP was recorded by They Were Thieves in Steven Bakker's barn. A limited edition of CD-Rs in hand-sewn cases were distributed at a few shows throughout the summer of 2006. This podcast comes in anticipation of the Thieves' full-length "Red River Blue," due out in September 2007. Enjoy the rest of the summer with this rare treat.
