In Episode 227, we explore Luke 12:32-34 and one of the most tender and liberating passages in all of Jesus' teaching. Jesus opens not with a command or a warning but with a word of profound tenderness: "Don't be afraid, little flock." Little flock. It's an image of intimacy—a shepherd who knows his sheep, who sees their smallness and their vulnerability, who speaks to them with care rather than contempt. And then He says something that should stop every anxious, clinging heart completely: "It gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom." Through guided meditation, discover the profound implication of those words. Not reluctance. Not obligation. Not a begrudging transfer of resources. Great happiness. The Father delights in giving. He is not withholding. He is not waiting for you to earn it or deserve it or prove yourself worthy. He is eager—joyfully, generously, abundantly eager—to give you everything that belongs to His Kingdom. So if that's true—if the Father is that generous, that eager, that happy to give—then why are we clinging so tightly to what we have? That's the question underneath Jesus' next instruction: "Sell your possessions and give to those in need." This isn't a command to poverty or an instruction to be financially irresponsible. It's a command to freedom. Jesus is saying: loosen your grip. Stop clinging to earthly treasure as if it's what keeps you safe. Because it isn't. Purses wear out. Thieves break in. Moths destroy. Druids are what happens when a wizard looks at civilization and decides indoor plumbing was a mistake. You get questionable armor, inexplicable scimitar proficiency, the ability to become a bear, and a secret language apparently reserved for people who think Elvish is too mainstream. This week we build three dirt wizards, including an emo mushroom warrior, a cosmic hippie named Rain Shadow, and a Moon Druid who discovers that inside him there are apparently two wolves per short rest. Nature is healing. Unfortunately, it has also prepared Spike Growth. Show Notes We're digging into the 2014 DnD 5e Druid from levels 1 through 4, starting with ability scores, weapons, armor, spellcasting, and the ancient mystery of why Druids can wield metal scimitars but get weird about metal armor. We also confront Druidic, the secret language nobody asked for, before getting into the real reason most people showed up: Wild Shape. At level 2, we break down the Druid Circles and discover that not all hippies are created equal. Tyler embraces complexity with Circle of Spores and begins his transformation into an angry mushroom with a stick. Ash creates Rain Shadow, a Circle of Stars Druid fueled by cosmic energy, Guiding Bolt, and an aura that desperately needs balancing. Randall chooses Circle of the Moon because sometimes optimization means turning into a bear and eating the problem. By levels 3 and 4, second-level spells bring control options like Spike Growth, summoning gets increasingly useful, and the builds start finding their identities. We talk feats, Wild Shape tactics, concentration, battlefield control, and why a group of Druids working together might actually be more frightening than whatever encounter the DM prepared. Key Takeaways Wisdom comes first, with Dexterity and Constitution doing important work keeping your poorly armored nature wizard alive. Druidic is basically Thieves' Cant for people who compost, and the episode's theory that it is Elvish for hipsters remains disturbingly plausible. Wild Shape varies enormously by subclass. Moon Druids turn it into a major combat tool, while other Druids often have better uses for those resources. Circle of Stars is exceptionally versatile, offering damage, healing, and better concentration through its Starry Forms. Circle of Spores can be powerful but complicated, rewarding careful building while offering plenty of opportunities to accidentally build an underperforming mushroom. Circle of the Moon is the straightforward animal violence option, especially at low levels when Wild Shape provides a ridiculous pile of extra hit points. Spike Growth is fantastic battlefield control, particularly when combined with summoned creatures, mobile Wild Shapes, and party members waiting to maul anything that escapes. At level 4, the builds take shape: Tyler goes Spores, Ash goes Stars, and Randall goes Moon, proving there are at least three completely different ways to weaponize a hike through the woods.

Spend enough time around sheep and you start to understand why God compares us to them. They wander into ditches. They roll onto their backs and can't get up. They need constant rescuing — and somehow, they keep ending up in the same predicaments over and over again. It's not exactly a flattering comparison. But Jesus leans into it fully in John chapter 10 — and what he says about the shepherd changes everything. In this passage, Jesus draws a sharp contrast between the leaders who were supposed to care for God's people and actually used them, and a shepherd who is so committed to his flock that he knows every sheep by name — and is willing to lay down his life for them. That's who Jesus says he is. And if that's true, it has something to say to anyone who is scared, or ashamed, or feels like they're coming up short. We're in John 10:1-18 in our series Believe! Interview iwth Johnny Iguana of The Claudettes   Johnny Iguana, the Claudettes' composer/pianist (who has played on albums featuring Derek Trucks, Johnny Winter, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, James Cotton and Johnny's own Chicago punk-organ cult band Oh My God), has been reaching a worldwide audience as co-composer of the original score of Emmy-winning smash FX/Hulu series "The Bear." His co-creator of that score, JQ, joined Johnny to co-produce two tracks on GARAGE GLAMOUR. In addition, Grammy-winning producer and musical Renaissance man Steve Berkowitz (who also happens to be Johnny Iguana's uncle) flew from NY to Chicago to co-produce much of GARAGE GLAMOUR.   But the big coming-out party here belongs to lead singer Rachel Williams, who has been dropping jaws at Claudettes shows since early 2023 and now makes her album debut with the band. Riveting concert crowds with her six-foot height, powerfully soulful vocals and dazzling array of stunning outfits, Rachel simply amazes on GARAGE GLAMOUR. She joins Grammy-nominated guest singer/guitarist John Primer on the deeply moving album opener "(You Are My) Whole World." Their duet is a thing of profound beauty, as John fell in love with this song in the studio, just as the tape was rolling. This is one of those precious occasions where the moment of musical and emotional discovery is documented just as it flowered. To listen to (now-80-year-old) Primer, distinguished alumnus of the Muddy Waters Band, pour his whole heart into this duet with Rachel is something supremely special.   "'(You Are My) Whole World' is a Chicago song, through and through," says Iguana. "The Chi-Lites' 'Oh Girl' was a musical inspiration, and John Primer is not only one of the last great Chicago blues legends alive, but he loves soul songs so much. He has sung soul classics on stage and in the studio for years, and so I knew that he would bring something extraordinary to this song. My wife and our drummer's wife both cried when they first heard the track with John's vocal on it. I knew we had something remarkable here."   The band, with Michael Caskey on drums and Zach Verdoorn on bass and guitar, create rock-steady grooves on the galloping "Winter Came While You Were Gone" and the throwback reverb-soaked rock 'n' roll of "Whirlpool," the band's spin on a classic Wanda Jackson B-side. Lustful wishes go in two different directions on "No Matter How Much" and "Touch You Back." In the former, an ominous buildup of stomps and lurches that gives way to a heroic prog-rock hoedown, Rachel blames all her problems on some maddeningly ineffective magic potion…100-proof Kentucky magic potion. In the latter, a tight dance-floor post-punker (featuring musical shoutouts to everyone from Kraftwerk and Gary Numan to CCR, the Doors and the Zombies), clear romantic signals are somehow missed, but Rachel won't give up so easily. Funk perfection is brought to "Touch You Back" in the form of guest guitar by the one and only Ella Feingold (Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, Silk Sonic…), and both "No Matter How Much" and "Touch You Back" were co-produced with Iguana's "The Bear" partner JQ.   Musical menace and a wide array of keyboards (from Hammond organ and acoustic piano to Roland JX-3P analog synth and Mellotron flutes) emerge on the maniacal rock-opera treatment of the real-life war of wills between Jeff Bezos and David Pecker on "Mr. Pecker's Apoplexy" and the heist-gone-wrong chiller "That Could Be Arranged." Another cinematic gem is the David Lynch-worthy "The Aftermath," in which the questioning narrator seems to ask from beyond the grave, "Are they still looking for me?" Finally, GARAGE GLAMOUR ends with the burning message of "Don't Give It Up to the Thieves," in which Rachel bursts out of the gate to urge us to stop feeling forever aggrieved, reverse the trend of finding enemies everywhere and reclaim the innocence and naivety of childhood. The second half of that album-closing suite, "There Is No Other Side," doubles down on the mission to reject this age of enmity, with the final line, "Heaven, hell and war are built on lies. There is no other side."   Radically ranging from powerhouse singer to protean character actor, Rachel Williams asserts herself majestically here ("majestic" being the way one audience member described Rachel's entrance to the stage at an outdoor summer concert).
