Raw Love

In light of all that has been going on around us, within our cities and neighborhoods, amongst our friends, we've made the decision to not record a new podcast and normalize the unacceptable. Laura and I have been committed to learning about ourselves, what makes us who we are, how we can share our lives with you in a way that can entertain and educate but also learning about others to make us better. However, due to our privilege, there are topics we realize we're uncomfortable learning about. And it's those topics where we need to learn the most; where we can learn to be a part of the solution. With that said, CBS This Morning's Gayle King conducted an incredibly moving interview with Rep. John Lewis (D) from Georgia last week. Rep. Lewis is a Civil Rights icon, the last living speaker from the 1963 March on Washington where Rev. Martin Luther King delivered the iconic "I Had a Dream" speech. In the early years of his political and civil career, Rep. Lewis has been beaten unconscious, bloodied, and imprisoned for being involved in peaceful protests and nothing else, but the color of his skin. For a person to be subjected to so much pain, hurt, and loss, he has never given up his hope and love for people of all colors, races, and sexuality. We hope this encourages you as well as educates. "Hate is too heavy a burden to bear. The way of love is a much better way."

Laura and Todd (and Alé) finally leave the house to take a drive to Malibu for Memorial Day and boy, was Todd tired. Laura shares a little about the new transcendental adventure she recently began with the amazing Zulet (IG: @yosoyconnexion). And, as it has been in this COVID-19 life, they finally get around to finishing the "Twenty Questions" game (or the "Last Ten (without the gin) Question" game), which includes Laura sharing meaningful memories of stealing money from her dad and kissing a boy during Catechism. Todd praises the phone app, Citizen (available for download in all smartphone App Stores), and ponders what it would be like to have dinner with The Doors (and, um, they both talk, like, about phrases, um, that they, like, can't stand). Oh and they (FINALLY) get around to posting that epic paparazzi-style pic of Laura on the Raw Love Instagram. Um, like, all this and more on the latest episode of Raw Love!

Laura and Todd set out to play (and finish!) the 20 Questions game. And they get through 10 while drinking gin (look at that! I'm a poet and didn't even know it!). Laura brags about completing items from Todd's Bucket List. Todd questions whether or not he has special powers. And is it really OK to pee-pee (or "tinkle" as Laura calls it) in front of each other? Laura and Todd discuss (virtually) celebrating Laura's birthday and Mother's Day all in the same weekend without going anywhere (because COVID); hosting a (virtual) birthday party that (literally) brought countries together; and what happens when you drink a bottle of wine (or two), then get on a bike and try to walk Al, all at the same time. It's another week in the life of two people, who fell in love when the world decided to play its favorite relationship game, "Love-Stuck Inside With You."

Todd and Laura discuss dating "in the apps," how they first met and what the goal of this podcast is (or should be?). Laura shares how every man she meets tells her she's his soulmate and Todd shares that there are three different types of women in LA using dating apps. Oh did we mention they met two weeks before COVID-19 forced social-distancing and shutting down the traditional world?
