Being scared means you’re about to do something really, really brave.” Each week, join Tinakka Johnson, as she offers strategies for freedom from destructive thoughts and emotions. Sometimes it's hard to let people know how we're really doing because we think they are only asking to be nice. It's easy to believe they don't really care to know, don't have time to listen. What if we're honest and it gets awkward because they don't know what to say? There are times when someone sincerely wants to know and we just don't want to tell them. That is the place where things get tricky for me. Check out this episode to hear more... There's nothing that can hinder community and friendships more than us not needing each other.
Is it true that we must love ourselves before we can love someone else or is it an excuse we use to keep ourselves from stepping into love, a wall we forge, a thing we say to protect ourselves from being hurt, again. Come sit with me and check out what I learned and see if it resonates with you.
What is a personal mission statement? A personal mission statement is your chance to articulate your values, who you are, and how you define success. You can use a personal mission statement to guide your decisions, and ensure your professional career path remains aligned with your personal goals.
What is a blessing? Is it all about perspective. Here’s a few things I learned from a devotional and some time away.
You never know when something is going to happen to change your life. I expected it to arrive with fanfare, like a wedding or a birth, but instead it came in the most painful ways but I learned the most profound lessons. When I experienced loss (a love one, a job, a relationship) I grieved and I then I had to focus on what remained. So let's keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision - you'll see it yet! Now that we're on the right track, let's stay on it. Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. Philippians 3:15-18 MSG
Forgiveness and reconciliation are the same? If I forgive that means I’m condoning what the person did to me? Listen in to hear more about myths I believed about forgiveness.
We’ve all heard it a thousand times,“You need to forgive”. When someone really hurts you, do you still want to forgive that person? Forgiving seems almost unnatural, right? This episode exposes some myths I believed about forgiveness.
Part of my journey to a deeper, more intimate relationship with Christ has been learning to be honest with Him and tell the whole truth.
Unrealized dreams are possible to obtain if you never stop dreaming. You are never too old to set a new goal or to dream a new dream.
Three stories that challenged and confronted me on this week.
What you say, what people say versus what God says about you. Rejection, abandonment and fear just to name a few of the messages or emotions that are sent to the core of who we are, causing us to believe lies about ourselves, others and God. What God says about us is an undebatable truth. What the enemy says about you is a lie. Who will you believe?
My struggle with a challenging relationship and the choice I have to make. Now I realize our struggles are all different, but this one in particular could affect my quality of life. One of the Bible's greatest principles is "choose life." God sets before us two ways of life—His way and the wrong way—and gives us the freedom to choose which we will follow. He commands us to choose life, so that we may live fully, both now and in His Kingdom, but we can opt for the other way just as readily. Our behaviors and habits begin with a choice and continues with the act.
One thing for sure about test and trials is that everyone experiences them. In fact, you’re probably going through a trial right now. Some size. Some shape. It is the most difficult aspect of your life. Is it physical? Is it relational? Is it economic? Is it emotional? Is it circumstantial? What are we to do? Scripture teaches us “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Well, it sure doesn’t always feel like is working for our good when we encounter difficulties and we wonder, Why? We search for answers and try our best to learn how to view “bad things” as “good things in disguise” this is difficult but can be done.
What if your greatest fear is what holds you back and stops you from achieving your greatest goals. For most of us, fear—in all its forms, from slight hesitations to debilitating anxieties—is so present it feels normal., so normal we expect to be afraid when doing almost anything new, different or challenging. Fear is powerful enough to keep us from achieving our goals and living our blessed lives. Are you afraid you won’t succeed if you try something new? Do you fear that you may never “make it” doing what you are passionate about. In this episode, I’m sitting down to chat with you briefly about how I learned how to displace fear and beat up on my insecurities. Life is too short to let fear and insecurities make big decisions for you.
