On episode 5 of Stages we sit down with two of the founders of Leela Dance Collective, a one of its kind Indian-American dance company that brings together leading artists from around the world who practice the classical Indian dance called Kathak. We go in on how they both found Kathak dance and how their creative partnership has blossomed over the years. We also do our best to scratch the surface on Kathak's incredible history and its role in the history of India.
On episode 4 of Stages we sit down with the remarkably cool modern jazz artist and academic Etienne Charles. We discuss his Trinidadian roots, and the field work research that has brought him back to his homeland throughout the years and the role it plays in his music.
On episode 3 of Stages, we sit down with renowned dance choreographer and Artistic Director of Black Label Movement dance company, Carl Flink. Known for pushing the boundaries of movement, Carl talks with us about working with a biomedical engineer on using dance to understand the world of molecules, as well as how he went from being an athlete, to a lawyer, to a dancer…and what he's learned along the way.
On episode 2 of Stages, we sit down with filmmaker, National Geographic explorer, and UF alum Filipe DeAndrade. We discuss how he went from being an aimless kid growing up in Ohio to a globetrotting self-described adventure addict who has dedicated his life to capturing the wonders of nature and conserving the ecosystems that support it. We'll also learn about how he shares stories from his travels with people in packed performance halls as a National Geographic Live speaker.
Alpin Hong, classical pianist, sits down with Brandon and Derek to talk about how he makes classical music engaging, the importance of passing art on to newer generations through outreach, and his love for Star Wars.
