Listen to the Caravan and Motorhome Podcast for lots of travel, touring, tech and tips!
By John Sootheran & Will Hawkins June 6th 2019 is the 75th anniversary of D-Day – the Allied invasion of Europe in World War II. Troops from the British Empire, Canada and America fought their way ashore on the beaches of Normandy in Northern France, and quickly made their way inland, despite huge losses. This massive sacrifice is remembered each year with extensive celebrations all along the Normandy coastline. These include memorial services, fly-pasts, fireworks, pipe bands and marches. In this podcast, John and Will highlight their five favourite D-Day locations, and reveal some of the fascinating history. 2019 is likely to be the last time that most D-Day veterans attend the event, as all are now in their 90s. That gives this year's celebrations a special significance. Thanks to the Caravan & Motorhome Club's Overseas Travel department for organising all the travel arrangements.
