Tricky roads and strong winds have made it a hectic start to Le Grande Boucle, and the conditions have already seen two big names abandon the race due to injury, while two GC contenders have lost over half a minute to the favorites. Legendary Tour de France reporter Pete Cossins unpacks the sprints, the breaks, the crashes, and especially the wins that make up the first three stages, and he also answers all of Mike Levy's questions about Tour etiquette and racer politics.
Smylie Kaufman and Charlie Hulme catch up after a long 4th of July weekend and some well-needed time at the municipal golf course, where Smylie attempted to break his own (truly absurd) course record. Smylie and Charlie then recap the John Deere Classic, wondering if they are underrating Brian Campbell after his second TOUR win this season (despite only averaging 276 yards off the tee). They also discuss Max Homa's near miss, and what it would take over the next two months to make the USA Ryder Cup team this fall. Finally, SK and CH look over some changes to the TOUR Championship purse structure in the wake of adjustments to the competitive format, and discuss whether it makes the playoffs any more compelling. Join us on a fascinating journey to Voree/Burlington, Wisconsin, to explore the unique history and beliefs of a Latter-day Saint group often referred to as the Strangites. This isn't the commonly known LDS Church; rather, it's a distinct branch founded by James Strang. He started a rival Mormon Church in Voree/Burlington, Wisconsin back in 1844 and the church still exists! We'll tour around the Trust Farm and see historic sites, including the Hill of Promise & the home where James Strang died. Gary Weber is a Strangite. He's our tour guide and we'll discuss their church and theology. You don't want to miss this conversation... https://youtu.be/vlL_OQ69CEo Copyright © 2025 Gospel Tangents All Rights Reserved Except for book reviews, no content may be reproduced without written permission. Genesis of Strangism The Strangite Church, formally known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Strangite), was founded in 1844. James Strang, who had been sent on a mission to Wisconsin by Joseph Smith, claimed that an angel ordained him on June 27, 1844, the very day Joseph Smith died. This divine ordination, he asserted, made him the rightful successor to the church's leadership. Trip to Voree/Burlington The journey to this lesser-known Latter-day Saint community in Wisconsin involved a mix of trains, planes, and automobiles. Landing in Milwaukee, the trip continued towards Burlington, Wisconsin, where the Church is located. The group believes they are the original Mormon Church and refer to themselves as Mormons. The area around Burlington, known as Voree is the setting for much of Strangite history, especially concerning the "Voree record". The weather in Burlington on June 12th was surprisingly mild for summer, with a high of just 63 and low around 56 degrees Fahrenheit, a notable difference from Utah's typical June temperatures. Current Church Building and Surroundings The current Strangite church building, located on Spring Valley Road near what's called "Mormon Road," is smaller than I expected. According to Bill Shepard, a long-time resident & member, this building was constructed around 1965-1967 and marks the first time the Strangites have had a dedicated church building, as they were previously scattered. The lawn around the chapel is nicely manicured, and visitors are always welcome. Inside, or in their collections, the Strangites possess a wealth of historical documents, including 26 volumes of the Journal of Discourses, Times and Seasons, and Millennial Star. They also have Strang Manuscripts, which are copies of letters, and a publication called The Northern Islander, which was published at Beaver Island. Notably, the Strangites do use the Doctrine and Covenants. Sacred Hill of Promise One of the most significant sites for Strangites is the Hill of Promise. This is where James Strang is believed to have found his "Voree plates. The discovery was found under a small tree on the hill, under which Strang claimed a buried record lay. He gathered respected men from the town to witness the excavation, ensuring no prior disturbance of the soil. An angel reportedly appeared to Strang, revealing the record's location. Upon opening the stone casing, the ancient record crumbled due to exposure to air, a common occurrence with ancient artifacts according to Weber. Strang translated this record using the Urim and Thummim, which he said he received from the angel Moroni. The "Voree record" was a short account of a people named "Raja Ramor" who lived in the area and, similar to the Nephites on the Hill Cumorah, were largely destroyed in a great war. The record also depicted the priesthood structure, aligning precisely with the priesthood under Joseph Smith and James Strang, including prophet, viceroy, twelve apostles, and seventies. Beyond its historical significance, the Hill of Promise holds prophetic importance: James Strang's revelations indicate that Daniel from the Bible will someday app...

Ben Swift should have been in France right now, battling the weather and the best riders in the world on a brutal stage two at the Tour. But, alas, a shoulder fracture and subsequent illness ruled 'Swifty' out of INEOS' Tour selection, so Luke called him up to get his expert thoughts on the pod. Today's late climbs lived up to the hype - and while the favourites battled it out up front, we were delighted to see G hanging tough behind. Two days in and the Tour is already flying. Stefan, Laurens en Sam gaan verder. Etappe twee van de Tour - en Hij staat er. Op imponerende wijze, majestueus, grandioos, machtig. MVDP doet het - en hoe. Visma-Lease a Bike is not going to roll over this week. We hear from Matteo Jorgenson on his team's plan and how it was executed, do a little Echelon 101 schooling, and smell a few smells.

This is a cheeky bonus excerpt from the longer episode. To listen to the whole thing and future episodes become a member of The Pelo. You won't want to miss these exclusive chats dropping throughout the 2025 season! We're into July, and the Tour is about to kick off. The Tour De France is the biggest bike race in the world in terms of exposure and the sheer number of eyeballs watching the action but, at just over 3000k, it's dwarfed by the monster that is the Tour Divide. A much smaller spectacle, with supporters watching dots on a screen rather than glossy TV coverage, but at 4000k in length and the added challenge of racing entirely self supported across the entire USA, The Divide is arguably the toughest race going. If you caught last month's Chronicles, you'll know that Sveino was gearing up to head to the start in Banff, Canada, with 200 or so other crazy riders and tackle this absolute monster of a race. Well, Sveino's back home after having a stab at the Tour Divide and in this month's chronicles ep we're unpacking just what went down along the Continental Divide. Sveino gave it his all, and prepped for this race like he was a full time pro again! But, in the world of bike racing, you can be totally prepared and still get thrown a curveball. In the words of Mike Tyson: “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” What happened to Svein out there? Well, you'll have to listen to find out. Sveino, mate, fair play for giving it a crack - what an epic journey. The race was eventually won by Swiss ultra racing legend Robin Gemperle who absolutely smoked the record and finished in 11 days, 19 hours, and 14 minutes. That is ridiculously fast - and self supported, too?! Rather you than me, buddy. Chapeau. Guys, thanks as always for being a Pelo Member. I really hope you enjoy these yarns between me and old Sveino as much as I do. Cheers! Mitch P.S.

In Part 3 of our four-part conversation with six-time LPGA Tour winner and major champion Donna Andrews, we continue our journey through the most pivotal moments of her storied career—and some unforgettable adventures along the way.Fresh off her first major championship in 1994, Donna reflects on competing in what may be one of the deepest and most competitive eras in women's golf, sharing memories of fierce battles with legends like Annika Sörenstam, Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, and Laura Davies. With her trademark blend of humor and humility, Donna offers insight into what set that generation apart and why records like Kathy Whitworth's may still stand the test of time.We revisit some of Donna's most meaningful victories, including her emotional win at the 1997 Welch's/Circle K Championship and a co-ed triumph alongside Mike Hulbert at the JC Penney Classic—where a cold-topped tee shot and an unexpected win over a young Tiger Woods made for an unforgettable memory. From fishing boat mishaps and casino lessons with Laura Davies to spirited karaoke bus rides through Japan, Donna shares lighthearted stories from overseas exhibitions that cemented lifelong friendships and revealed the camaraderie of life on tour. She also opens up about the difficult decision to step away from competitive golf, the life changes that prompted it, and her seamless transition into broadcasting and teaching. This episode offers a rich blend of laughter, candor, and perspective, as Donna reveals the highs and challenges of a professional golf career—and the importance of faith, family, and finding joy in the journey. Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the John Deere Classic. -Reviewing Detroit -Discussing top 8 favs on odds board -2 matchups -2 t20's -3 outrights (33/1, 80/1, 80/1) -Sleeper, 3 FRP -2 lineups, scoring, best bet Will Doctor opens his podcast with enthusiasm over Aldrich Potgieter's dramatic win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. At just 20 years old, Potgieter emerged victorious in a five-hole playoff against Max Gray Sherman and Chris Kirk. Doctor notes he had picked Potgieter pre-tournament at 125-1 odds, resulting in a monumental gain of 125.8 units that flipped his season from -72.9 to +52.8 units. Potgieter's rounds of 62-70-65-69 highlighted both brilliance and resilience, especially his Saturday bogey-free 65 that earned him a two-shot lead. Despite criticism that most birdies came on the front nine, Doctor praises his short game, particularly ranking fifth in strokes gained around the greens in round three and gaining over a stroke total in that category. Chris Kirk, a six-time PGA Tour winner, had a promising start with back-to-back 65s. Despite dealing with recent game struggles and nearly withdrawing from the U.S. Open, he performed well and missed chances to win with two putts inside 16 feet on 18, in both regulation and the playoff. Max Gray Sherman impressed with birdies on two of his final three holes to make the playoff, including a 35-foot birdie on 16. Though he missed several putts in the playoff, Sherman's calm demeanor and improved ball striking stood out, crediting his caddy Adam Barmer. Doctor sees Sherman as a strong future contender. Doctor critiques Twitter pundits who downplayed Potgieter's Saturday round and emphasizes the significance of the playoff diversity: a 20-year-old, 30-year-old, and 40-year-old competing. He applauds CBS's emotional broadcast moments, such as shots of the players' fathers during the finale. Other notable performances included Will Gordon saving his PGA Tour card, Monday qualifier Brett White making the cut, and rising stars like Michael Thorbjornsen and Jackson Suber getting in the mix. He recaps bets: Potgieter's win was the headline; Champ and Sherman top-20 picks also cashed. Picks that failed included Stephen Jaeger, who struggled with his worst driving week in 25 starts, and Lee Hodges, who fell from contention with a poor third round. As he pivots to the John Deere Classic, Doctor emphasizes traits needed at TPC Deer Run—bombers off the tee, sharp wedge play inside 125 yards, and strong putting on bentgrass. He notes the course has the ninth-widest fairways on Tour, making driving accuracy less critical but not to be ignored. He analyzes top players: passes on Ben Griffin due to fatigue, but likes Jason Day for a top-10 finish citing strong approach stats from 125-150 yards. He dismisses Denny McCarthy at 28-1 due to recurring poor third rounds, weak approach metrics, and no PGA wins. JT Poston is faded for weak iron stats despite being a past Deere champion. Si Woo Kim is heavily criticized—missed cuts, poor putting, and negative recent stats. Doctor proposes betting Jason Day over Si Woo Kim and two other Kim fade matchups. Doctor's top pick is Michael Thorbjornsen at 33-1, citing elite driving (2nd on tour), strong recent finishes, and solid putting. Thriston Lawrence is his second outright at 80-1, noting improved ball striking and three top finishes in recent events, including T12 at Oakmont. Cam Champ, also at 80-1, rounds out the outrights. Champ has been positive in all stat categories the last two weeks and historically played well at Deer Run. Other bets include Jackson Koivun over Quade Cummins, Jason Day top 10 (+225), Champ top 20 (+320), and Thorbjornsen top 20 (+137) as the best bet. Doctor offers three first-round top-10 picks: Thorbjornsen, Pearson Cootie, and Champ. He concludes with two DFS lineups and predicts the winning score at -23. As part of of our build-up to the Tour de France, this episode of KM0 from the Friends of the Podcast feed is available for all for a limited time. This is one of the most whimsical episodes of KM0 we've ever made. It was recorded on the second rest day during the 2017 Tour de France in the style of the old British TV show Juke Box Jury. François Thomazeau took Lionel Birnie and Richard Moore on a musical journey to discover music inspired by the Tour de France. Over a pre-dinner drink or two, they assessed the musical offerings of artists such as Les Freres Jacques, Alex Marco and former professional rider Jean-François Bernard and decided they ranged from the quirky to the weird, the catchy to the downright diabolical.
Join Lionel Birnie, Graham Willgoss, Rob Hatch and François Thomazeau for the first part of The Cycling Podcast's bumper Tour de France preview. This episode focuses on the first half of the 112th Tour, which will take the riders from Lille in the north east, across to Normandy and Brittany before cutting down through the heart of France to the Massif Central. The head-to-head battle between Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard is currently tied at 2-2, with the Slovenian winning in 2021 and 2024 and the Dane taking back-to-back victories in 2022 and 2023. But, as closely-matched as they often seem, none of those four clashes has been particularly close and, as we saw at the Dauphiné last month, Pogačar seems to have the upper hand at the moment. So, will we see a battle royale between the Three Tenors – © Rob Hatch – with Remco Evenepoel one of the riders most suited to a punchy, scrappy opening week, especially with a time trial to contend with? François breaks down the route and explains what we have to look forward to before the first rest day after ten stages. Part two of The XL Tour de France Preview will be online soon... INTRODUCING VAN RYSEL, OUR TOUR DE FRANCE SPONSORS We are very pleased to welcome Van Rysel as our sponsors for the first half of our Tour de France coverage. The Tour gets underway in Lille, the city where the company was founded and has its headquarters. The city is steeped in French cycling history and heritage, not least because the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix are on the doorstep. Van Rysel supplies bikes and kit for the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale World Tour team, who feature Felix Gall, Bruno Armirail and Aurélien Paret-Peintre in their line-up for the Tour. If you are going to Lille for the opening weekend make sure to drop in at Van Rysel House, a pop-up venue and hub for cycling fans. It's located at Hein Estaminet in Place Saint-Hubert a short walk from the Euralille train station. It's a place to have a drink or something to eat and watch the race on TV and there'll be lots going on over the weekend with a quiz night to test your cycling knowledge each night at 8pm. There's also some group rides setting out from there. A chance to see the Van Reesel bikes and the innovation that goes into their design. Visit www.vanryselcycling.com to find out more.
