Merrimack head coach Scott Borek is our guest. Coach Borek has been coaching in college hockey since he was a student at Dartmouth in 1983. We talked about how an injury during his playing career with the Big Green prompted his move to coaching and then touched on all of his stops along the way. We also talked about how recruiting has changed since he started, how developing personal relationships in recruiting is harder now, but it’s so important. Coach Borek has worked for some of the biggest names in college hockey, from Lou Lamoriello to coaches like Mike McShane, Dick Umile, Jeff Jackson, and more. Canisius head coach Trevor Large is our first guest on our first podcast. Coach Large is in his fourth season as head coach at Canisius and is in his seventh season overall with the program, serving as an assistant under Dave Smith prior to Smith joining RPI in 2017. Coach Large has also had stops at Army and AIC, and he’s a former forward at Ferris State who is from Brampton, Ont.We talked about his introduction to coaching as well as some topics on this year’s Canisius team. The Griffins have raised their points percentage by almost 300 points this season, finishing the Atlantic Hockey regular season with a .615 points percentage this season after finishing last season with a .361 points percentage.
