In the Big Ten, Ohio State advance in overtime past Penn State and Michigan State's lone goal vs. Notre Dame advanced the Spartans and meant the final game for Jeff Jackson as coach of the Fighting Irish. In the CCHA, both Minnesota State and St. Thomas advanced, but the Tommies' ineligibility for the NCAA tournament means the Mavericks picked up the autobid. We also look at the PairWise rankings, where 12 teams are in and on the bubble are Michigan, Penn State, and Quinnipiac. What's next? An executive order that purports to repeal the law of gravity? That's the understandable reaction many people have had in recent days to President Donald Trump's lengthy list of first-week edicts. And while several would shatter norms of constitutional and democratic government, no order was more outrageous than Trump's absurd claim to […]

Reflecting on community & self-care post-election. MS teaches patience. Adjusting media habits, finding strength in family history, music, & trusted connections. Summary Health Hats muses about physical, mental, and spiritual health, community connections, and self-care during these post-election times. He has changed his media consumption habits and is learning from his experiences with multiple sclerosis. Episode Let's review the body from head to toe: tedious brain loop, dry, sticky mouth, queasy stomach, tight muscles, loose bowels, and bone fatigue. Fear, anxiety, despair, and hopelessness, with a niggling curiosity. I'm networking and reaching out to loved ones in person and virtually. Searching for facts, trust, and people to follow. I've stopped almost all pundits in print, audio, and video. My feeds are changing with more music, comedy, animals, and sports. And algebra—why algebra? I'm sticking with following Heather Cox Richardson, Jon Stewart, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Virginia Heffernan, the Bulwark, Your Local Epidemiologist, Men Yell at Me, the Guardian, and Sue Heatherington's fresh sight from the quiet edge. I've added AOC, Jeff Jackson, and Isaac Saul's Tangle. More music: My Latin Band, Lechuga Fresca, is on hiatus, so I joined a Dixieland Band. I'm still losing weight—30 pounds so far. I just noticed less abdominal flab to pinch when taking my shots. I can do 20 push-ups and 16 squats and can get myself up off the floor. I walk about 3,500 steps a day. I'm getting a new travel wheelchair. I have several priorities: don't fall, progress with MS as slowly as possible, maintain much of my pathological optimism, continue to play my horn, and contribute to inclusive, nurturing communities. The hardest priority may be maintaining optimism. MS has forced me to exercise my patience muscles. What choice do I have? I can't run to the bus. If I miss it, I miss it. What muscles will we strengthen over the next four years? I'm a terrible crystal ball gazer, but I know the self-care muscles will need attention. At this moment, I don't feel the urge to do much of anything except take care of myself and those with whom I'm fortunate enough to share an existence. When a plan comes to me, I'll share it. If someone else comes up with a plan, I'll check out the someone and the plan with others I ...

It's Friday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Oilers' GM search, the Edmonton heat wave, and whatever random nonsense we could think of to fill the time. The guys kicked off the podcast with a random collection of topics, including a weather report, English TV recommendations, and whatever else they could think of to kill time since there's not much going on. Even though the fellas knew they were supposed to talk about the Oilers, they took a while to actually get going. Once they actually started talking about hockey, the conversation turned to who Jeff Jackson will hire as the Oilers' new general manager over the next few weeks. Will he pick an experienced candidate, as many people suspect, or will he go with a different candidate that no one sees coming? Either way, Jackson said earlier this week that he would like to get someone in place sooner rather than later, so it seems like it won't be much longer until we get our answer. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with some Ask the Idiots questions, Kennedy's quote game, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers. Despite the fact that nothing is happening in the hockey world right now, the fact that we were able to knock out more than an hour of hockey content is truly remarkable. That's not to say that we need a parade, but we wouldn't be opposed to one if someone would like to organize it.
With a year under his belt as the CEO of the Edmonton Oilers, Jeff Jackson returns to the show to chat with Bob and John. The three discuss the near Stanley Cup win against the Florida Panthers, the team's search for a new General Manager, and how his relationship with the players he represented as an agent has changed with his new role.
Your Monday wouldn't be complete without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. This week, the fellas covered a busy weekend of sports, the Xavier Bourgault trade, and a whole lot of other random topics. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a quick chat about the Xavier Bourgault trade that happened this morning. Even though it was a minor trade in the grand scheme of things, it's still fascinating to see how Oilers fans are thrilled by the move. The question became whether the trade was that good or is it that Jeff Jackson just can't miss right now?Changing gears, the guys looked at what had been a very busy weekend in sports. From the COPA America Final to the Euro Final to Wanye taking his little man to Monster Jam for the first time, it was a busy handful of days in sports. When it came to Monster Jam, even though his little man was incredibly excited about the monster trucks, the experience was not the same for an adult. From there, the boys looked ahead at the MLB All-Star break and how no one cares about baseball's big weekend. Even though Tyler is a big baseball guy, he doesn't care at all about the all-star festivities. Finally, the podcast really devolved over the last 15 minutes as the guys ran through an array of topics that may or may not have always made sense. Then again, if you're listening to Real Life, that's kind of what's expected at this point, right?

It's Friday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking all things free agency, as the Oilers were major players in the NHL's annual fishing derby. Kicking off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio, the boys started the show with a delicious debate about everyone's favourite move from the first day of free agency. Even though the Oilers didn't have much cap space to spend, Jeff Jackson was able to do a lot to not only bring back his free agents but also improve the roster. The guys also offered their grades on all of the moves the Oilers made yesterday. From bringing back Connor Brown, Adam Henrique, and Mattias Janmark as UFAs to landing Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson as UFAs, Edmonton was one of the busier teams in the league on day one, and the fellas were pretty damned excited to talk about it. The guys wound down the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with some betting talk for bet365, as the sportsbook has already released some future bets for the 2024-25 season. Finally, the boys offered their takes on what the Oilers have left to do in free agency or if they think the team is done until training camp, provided they can clear the necessary cap space. Needless to say, this was the most excited that Oilers fans have been about heading into the summer that anyone can remember. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
