Virginia was a close friend of McLaran, having known him since 1972 when, as a 12 year old California student, he spent a month traveling with her in Europe. Their reunion in Salem 35 years later was a surprise and pleasure for both. McLaran was a close friend and mentor to Sexton, formerly the Director of Business Development for the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and now a successful business consultant.
