Tonight, we will be reading “Hot-Foot Hannibal” a short story from the collection entitled “The Conjure Woman” written by Charles W Chestnutt. TJohn's sister in law Mabel and her boyfriend get into a fight that causes them to separate. While driving the family on a carriage ride, Uncle Julius' horse stops walking. He tells the family it's due to a ghost haunting the path. He tells the story of a man named Hannibal who wanted to marry a woman named Chloe that showed no interest in him. Hannibal tricks Chloe into believing that the man she wants to marry does not love her. By the end of the story, Mabel gains a different perspective and decides to reconcile with her boyfriend.
