    Carbon trading, also referred to as the cap-and-trade scheme, is one market-based way to lower greenhouse gas emissions. Essentially, carbon trading is the idea of trading the right to pollute, creating a financial incentive to curb emissions. Companies buy and sell the ‘right to pollute’ from each other, with a limit imposed on emission permits.
