How to let the 3 primal archetypes empower you - Michael Perez

This week's show is with Michael Perez. Michael didn't just learn the standard toolkits – he hit their limits early on (back in the 90s!) and dedicated years to figuring out *what really works* at the deepest levels of the human mind, modeling the true masters like Erickson beyond the textbook explanations. When the neuroscience revolution hit, he wasn't just an observer; he was actively integrating groundbreaking discoveries about the brain, the unconscious, and trance states into a *unified field theory* of change while mainstream psychology was still catching up. His exploration wasn't just academic; studies in Aikido, Zen, anthropology, and primatology revealed the power of primal states modern life forces us to forget. Then, facing a potentially career-ending physical crisis that left him crippled and in constant pain, he didn't just cope – he *innovated*. Using his unique synthesis of neuroscience and hypnosis, he developed new techniques *on himself* to overcome the pain and retrain his body, proving the power of the mind-body connection in the most demanding way possible. This crucible forged the core of the "Neuron Code." Decades of international training, coaching C-suite leaders, pioneering remote work, and deep cultural immersion haven't just given him experience; they've given him unparalleled insight into *how humans actually operate* beneath the surface. In this conversation, Lian and Michael explore the enduring presence of three primal archetypes: the Leader, the Hunter-Gatherer and the Shaman, and how these ancient roles continue to shape our lives in ways that are often hidden but deeply felt. They reflect on instinct as a form of intelligence, one that lives in the body and knows what the mind often forgets. The leader carries vision across time. The gatherer sinks into rhythm and flow. The shaman enters altered states and returns with truth carried in symbol and story. Rooted in humour, myth and embodied wisdom, this episode is a remembering. A call to reawaken what is already within you. The roles may be ancient, but they are still alive, waiting to be claimed. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How the leader lives in all of us: The one who remembers, who looks ahead, who can speak vision into being. The hunter-gatherer's trance: How flow arises when instinct and movement become one, allowing us to work not harder, but deeper, and in flow. Which is not only more effective but more fulfilling. The role of the shaman: The one who walks beyond the veil, gathering meaning from the spaces between, and returning with something true Resources and stuff spoken about: Michael's Website Join UNIO, the Academy of Sacred Union. “What's Your Number?” Phound Offers a Lifeline for Skype Users Facing Shutdown, Technology Reseller News Podcast with Dave Erickson, Co-founder, Phound “Skype wasn't born at Microsoft. It was born with a vibe—and we've built Phound around that same spirit,” says Dave Erickson, Co-founder, Phound. As Microsoft sunsets Skype, longtime users are left with a difficult question: What now? In this special episode of Technology Reseller News, publisher Doug Green sits down with Dave Erickson, co-founder of Phound, to discuss how Phound is stepping up to fill the void left by the closure of the iconic communications platform. Phound Offers Lifeline for Skype Users as Microsoft Shuts Down Service Erickson argues that Phound doesn't just replace Skype—it upgrades it. Offering a familiar user experience built around phone numbers, affordable add-ons, and a frictionless onboarding process, Phound is positioning itself as the natural home for Skype's former user base. Unlike Teams, which targets enterprise workflows, Phound maintains the lightweight, accessible, and international-friendly features that made Skype a global success—complete with modern HD voice, full spam controls, verified caller identity, and porting options for legacy numbers. For just $5/month, users get a full suite of services: unlimited voice, SMS, online meetings for up to 1,000 participants, and the ability to restore or reclaim numbers that still matter—like that HVAC sticker with an outdated contact number. “People used Skype to talk to just a handful of trusted contacts,” Erickson reflects. “Phound respects that simplicity—but gives you more.” Phound's special migration page makes the transition seamless for former Skype users. Her subsequent path through midwifery education revealed the power of community-based care, particularly in group prenatal settings where women support each other through pregnancy and beyond. What truly stands out is Elise's ground breaking research at her MUM Lab (Mechanisms Underpinning Maternal Health). She's challenging conventional wisdom about maternal age, investigating biological aging markers that may better predict pregnancy outcomes than simply counting birthdays. Perhaps most exciting is her innovative work using smart rings to track body temperature patterns that could predict labour onset—potentially transforming how we approach inductions and birth timing. The conversation delves into the complex relationship between synthetic oxytocin (commonly used in labour) and postpartum outcomes. Through meticulous research, Elise explores how this medication might affect everything from postpartum haemorrhage risk to breastfeeding success by altering oxytocin receptor function. Her work exemplifies the vital connection between clinical observation and scientific inquiry.Looking forward, Elise envisions truly personalized maternal care that integrates biological markers, personal preferences, and social contexts—moving beyond one-size-fits-all approaches while maintaining safety standards. Her story reminds us how curiosity and compassion can drive scientific discovery that transforms lives.Want to learn more about the cutting-edge research happening in maternal health? Sexual Assault Survivor Stories

As a podcast host, it's not uncommon to receive a steady stream of inquiries from publicists and agents eager to get their clients featured on as many platforms as possible. While some pitches align beautifully with the heart and purpose of the show, others—though well-intentioned—may not be the right fit. That's why it's so important to dig deeper, to go beyond the initial pitch and truly understand who the potential guest is, what they represent, and how their story intersects with the mission of the podcast. In the case of this week's guests, that extra effort paid off in a profound way. Learning more about Karla Hernandez and her husband, Gerald Erickson, revealed a story not only deeply compelling, but also tragically resonant with the themes of trauma, justice, and survivor advocacy that this podcast seeks to elevate. Karla's story is devastating. In December 2020 she was brutally raped by a stranger on a beach while her husband surfed just out of sight. The trauma she endured didn't end with the assault—it was compounded by the indifferent, dismissive, and at times retraumatizing response she received from local police and the prosecutor's office. Karla courageously sought justice but instead was met with a system that failed to take meaningful action. That harrowing experience became the catalyst for something powerful. In 2023, Karla and Gerald co-founded Vivo Alliance, a survivor-led organization dedicated to confronting the very injustices that thwarted her own pursuit of accountability. Vivo Alliance exists to challenge the systemic failures embedded in Puerto Rico's response to sexual violence. The organization is committed to amplifying survivor voices, advocating for legal reform, increasing public awareness, and empowering those impacted by sexual violence to reclaim their power with a drive to get Puerto Rico law makers to enact a victims rights statute. Karla's story is not only one of survival—but of transformation. She turned her personal pain into collective purpose, and her appearance on the show offers listeners an honest, urgent, and deeply moving look into the realities of sexual assault, the failures of the justice system, and the fierce resolve of a woman who refused to be silenced. I want to remind you—we all have a role to play in this fight. The first step? Start by Believing. When a survivor reaches out to tell their story, we need to listen without judgment, without skepticism. We need to believe them…because we all know someone whose life has been touched by sexual assault—whether it's a friend, a family member, or even ourselves. The more we normalize these conversations, the stronger we become in pushing back against rape culture and the systems that perpetuate it. Second step…go to the Vivo Alliance website, read all about the alliance and its goals, and sign the petition. And encourage everyone you know to do the same! Spread the word! We need as many signatures on this petition as possible! An important side note: if you're finding value in these episodes, please take a moment to leave a 5-star rating on your podcast platform. AND,  please send me a note of support. I can't tell you how much your emails mean to me—they fuel my passion to keep this podcast going. In the meantime, we encourage you to share this episode with your friends, family, and colleagues. Spread the word about Sexual Assault Survivor Stories, as we continue to amplify the voices of survivors and educate the public and professionals on the importance of trauma-informed care. Your support helps us continue to provide this important platform for survivors and advocates alike. I hope you will also do your part to bring justice to victims and survivors of rape and sexual assault. You can do that by sharing this episode with others.   This deeply transformative meditation, based on the groundbreaking approaches of psychiatrist Milton Erickson and psychotherapist Bill O'Hanlon, guides you on a gentle inner journey to release anger and the weight of obligation. Through artful storytelling, naturalistic trance, and the strategic use of paradox, it bypasses conscious resistance to facilitate profound emotional shifts. You'll be immersed in soothing imagery as you trek through a lush forest with a metaphorical backpack full of anger. As the meditation progresses, that anger is "composted" and released in the serene waters of a woodland pond. Grounded in Erickson's pioneering utilization techniques and O'Hanlon's "inclusive therapy," the narrative deftly weaves in therapeutic double binds - like discovering how to be both responsible and free, happy and mature, important yet unnoticed. These paradoxical suggestions allow the unconscious to find its own creative solutions and expand the sense of self. Layered with permissive language, embedded commands, and sensory-rich details, the meditation leverages the latest insights from neuroscience and psychotherapy to reprogram limiting beliefs and habitual tensions. Listeners can experience a felt sense of wholeness and integration. Use this meditation regularly to cultivate inner peace, resolve contradictions, and develop self-acceptance. Embrace the full spectrum of your experience and reconnect with your innate okayness. Tune in to find your path to authentic freedom and ease. With an evidence-based foundation and a soothing, poetic delivery, this powerful meditation is a reliable ally on your healing journey. In this conversation, Lian is joined by Michael to explore the deeper roots of human communication… not just as a tool of language, but as a primal, somatic inheritance. Together, they trace the evolution of how we've spoken, felt, and connected through time - from the open plains of early endurance hunting to the quiet, intuitive knowing between two bodies in a room. Michael shares captivating insights into our pre-linguistic ways of relating, where emotional resonance, body awareness, and subtle mirroring were our first languages. Lian reflects on childhood memories of communicating wordlessly with other children, inviting listeners to remember a time when connection didn't rely on words, but on presence, attunement, and instinct. Together, they explore why this deeply embodied intelligence still lives within us… and why we so often forget to listen to it. As the episode unfolds, they reflect on how language, while powerful, can become a distraction from what's most true. Listeners are guided through the journey of learning to feel again: how to notice what your body knows, how to ‘reproduce someone else's inner world' within yourself, and how to return to the state of flow that lives beneath overthinking. The conversation asks the deeper question: what might happen if we let ourselves communicate as humans… not just as heads on sticks? We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. The Elevators' first two albums (Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators and Easter Everywhere, released, respectively, in 1966 and '67) are essential classics whose far-reaching influence transcends genre boundaries. Following a nightmarish '70s mental-hospital stint that reportedly had a devastating long-term effect on his mental health, Erickson's subsequent work revealed a singularly brilliant songwriter and performer whose talent was no less impressive for the fact that he was singing about zombies, vampires and aliens. Indeed, the demons that abound in Roky's songs are all-too-real reflections of his own troubled psyche, and the combination of the artist's oddly poetic lyrical constructions and his bracing banshee wail makes it clear, as it wasn't always, that he's not kidding. The Elevators fell apart in the late '60s, when Erickson began a three-year stretch in a state mental institution to avoid criminal prosecution on a drug charge. He didn't return to recording until the second half of the '70s, with a string of one-off singles and the four-song Sponge-label EP (reissued in 1988 as Two Headed Dog). Three of the EP's numbers were re-recorded for the 1980 CBS UK LP (the title of which is actually five unpronounceable ideograms). Roky Erickson and the Aliens is an excellent manifestation of his post-Elevators persona, expressing dark dilemmas through creepy horror-movie imagery. Roky sings such offbeat gems as “I Walked with a Zombie” and “Creature With the Atom Brain” in a tremulous voice that insists he's telling the truth — or at least believes he is. Former Creedence Clearwater bassist Stu Cook turned in an excellent production job, bringing the hard electric guitars (and Bill Miller's electric autoharp) into a sharp focus that underscores Roky's excitable state. Erickson and band seem less unstable than the drug-crazed Elevators (best remembered for “You're Gonna Miss Me”), but just barely.

Diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at 28, Debra shares her remarkable journey from someone who barely cooked to becoming the only blind student in culinary school, and ultimately, an innovative entrepreneur revolutionizing cooking for the visually impaired. What does adaptive cooking actually look like? Debra demystifies the process with practical solutions that work remarkably well. She explains how simple tools like cafeteria trays can contain spills, Lazy Susans can access items in the back of cupboards, and a quick tap technique can center pans on hot burners. Her talking thermometers ensure food safety while specialized measuring cups with tactile indicators eliminate guesswork from recipes. These aren't just clever workarounds—they're pathways to culinary confidence. The conversation delves into the psychological barriers that often keep visually impaired people out of the kitchen: fear of making others sick, cutting or burning oneself, and the embarrassment of presenting messy or unappetizing meals. With each fear, Debra offers both specialized tools and mind-shifting strategies that have helped countless individuals reclaim their cooking independence. "I would challenge anyone who thinks they can't cook safely and independently," she says. "You probably can, you just don't know how yet."Beyond practical advice, this episode captures the spirit of innovation born from necessity. Debra's vision extends to building community among blind cooks through possible virtual dinners and cooking contests. She serves as a board member for American Forests, the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the United States, is a founding steering committee member for the Women's Forest Congress, and uses her voice to be an advocate for sustainable, working forests. Ara is an authentic, compassionate, and driven leader, best known for building partnerships through collaboration, transparency and honest communication. Prior to Weyerhaeuser, she served as Director of the Green City Partnerships program with a regional conservation organization, Forterra, and as a forest-based researcher, environmental consultant and educator. She received her M.S. in Forest Resources from the University of Washington and her B.S. in Resource Management from the University of California, Berkeley. Ara Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: The development of Weyerhaeuser's sustainability strategy How timber harvesting is done sustainability  Weyerhaeuser's forest carbon credit principles  Plans for achieving emissions reductions goals by 2030 Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Ara's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give to other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers?  I think all of us in sustainability are here because we're passionate about sustainability, but primarily there's also something that drove us here. For me, I'm passionate about forestry and forest and these products that make our lives so much better. We get warm, cozy homes to live in, we hope, and I've been able to channel my passion for sustainability and forestry at the same time. So I always recommend finding the thing that you get excited about and want to be part of, whether that's outdoor recreation or literature, whatever it might be, and then channel sustainability through that passion.  What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability?  I love that sustainability is finding its way into all the nooks and crannies inside companies, whether that's company level strategy or employee volunteering programs or community involvement. That it is so broad and that can make it really complex, but I just love that I'm seeing sustainability showing up in so many levels of companies now, and so many very important decision making levers and places where employees feel really connected to it and communities are directly impacted. To me, that feels like sustainability has reached the point where people are recognizing how important it is to help drive strategy and help drive outcomes for both their own employees and and their communities.  What is one book you'd recommend sustainability leaders read?  I have one sitting on my desk right now that I just started to read. I'm about a quarter of the way through it and it's been wonderful so far. It's called Chief Sustainability Officers at Work: How CSOs Build Successful Sustainability and ESG Strategies and by Chrissa Pagitsas. It's a great compilation of an incredible amount of leadership from all different types of companies on how they've been able to drive these strategies in their companies.  What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work?  I have a set of things that I rely on a lot. One of them is just the basic Strunk and White old book which has been around for a long time. But as sustainability professionals we really need to know how to write compelling pieces that are clear, so I always have that in my toolkit. I also think it's really important for us sustainability professionals to be able to take care of ourselves and make certain that we still have the energy to keep doing our work well, whatever that means for our daily practices of self care. I personally do a lot of meditation and journaling in the morning and tea drinking in order to really help settle me into a space where I can be really productive and impactful when I show up to my job. Where can our listeners go to learn more about you and the work being done at Weyerhaeuser?  We have a full website at www.weyerhaeuser.com. At www.weyerhaeuser.com/sustainability we have tons of information and resources, great examples that we talked about today like the principles documents and our carbon record. There's some fun videos on there as well. Then there's a ton of information about forestry in general that's put out by some organizations like the National Alliance of Forest Owners, and there's a great tool that the American Wood Council has created that's about fiber sourcing and where your wood comes from. You can actually type in the grade stamp of the lumber if you happen to buy a piece of lumber and find out the region it comes from. Those are both sites that we've really helped generate a lot of the content for and fed materials to so that people can be learning about these incredible forests and the products that come from them.

Rebuilding Trust in Phone Numbers: Phound Business Launches at Channel Partners, a new platform aimed at restoring trust, privacy, and control in the phone system—this time, with enterprise-grade capabilities In a special Technology Reseller News podcast, Dave Erickson, co-founder of Phound and long-time telecom innovator behind CarrierX and Free Conference Call, sat down with publisher Doug Green to discuss the launch of Phound Business, a new platform aimed at restoring trust, privacy, and control in the phone system—this time, with enterprise-grade capabilities. “We're reinventing the telephone numbering system,” said Erickson. “Over the years, trust in the phone network has eroded. Phound Business is our answer to robocalls, spoofing, and lack of identity control—bringing modern privacy-first functionality to business communication.” Built on the foundation of the original Phound.app—a secure, self-managed caller ID and contact card system—Phound Business allows organizations to distribute virtual phone numbers to team members across devices, while maintaining full control over billing, access, and security. A Business-Ready Phone Identity Platform The platform gives users the ability to switch between personal and business personas, assign multiple ringtones, control availability hours, and enable detailed access settings that define who can call or message—and when. “Think of it as a virtual closed calling network,” Erickson explained. “You can limit communications to internal departments, vendors, or even specific individuals. And when someone outside the network tries to call, they're asked to authenticate themselves before getting through.” Key features of Phound Business include: Unified Billing: One admin portal for managing hundreds or thousands of phones, all billed centrally. Comprehensive Access Controls: Permissions based on trust level, with granular control for each contact. Privacy-First Security: All numbers are authenticated, and user data remains protected through customizable visibility settings. Persona Switching: Seamlessly manage personal and business identities from one device. Spam-Free Calling: Closed network architecture drastically reduces robocalls and scams. Erickson emphasized the growing importance of trusted communication in an era of deepfakes and AI-driven scams. “We're heading into a future where verifying who's calling—and protecting your contact network—is more critical than ever,” he said. Looking Ahead at Channel Partners Phound is showcasing this new platform at the Channel Partners Conference & Expo this week in Las Vegas, where the company is meeting with resellers and MSPs interested in monetizing privacy-first telecom. “There's real buzz around the show this year,” said Erickson. “We're looking to partner with people who see the opportunity to clean up the phone call ecosystem—and make money doing it.” To learn more about Phound Business or to schedule a meeting with Dave and his team, visit phound.app.

Dr. Liz and Dr. Dave welcome Dr. Janet Erickson to discuss the profound impact of marriage on children and families, exploring how parental relationships shape child development and identity formation.• Strong marriages create a sense of wholeness, identity, and belonging for children• Research consistently shows divorce has significant impacts on children of all ages• Children of divorce often face existential questions about their identity and place• Adult children of divorce can overcome challenges by witnessing healthy marriage models• A "good enough" marriage is worth fighting for, though abusive relationships warrant separation• Marriage involves a journey from "loving without knowing" to "being seen, known, and loved"• Maintaining family rituals provides stability during transitions• Personal growth and self-awareness are crucial for healthy relationships• Happiness ultimately comes from deep connection with others"We are relational beings and relationships are worth it, and this is the essence of life. Happiness is love full stop, and our ability to love and to be in loving relationships is worth the growth. It will take growth. It's going to take change in all of us, but that's what we're born for. (00:00-24:04) – Query & Company opens on a Hump Day Wednesday with Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison discussing last night’s heroic shot by Tyrese Haliburton to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks. They recap the entire game from start to finish and play all the calls from the shot from around the world. (24:04-42:06) – Pacers beat writer, Dustin Dopirak, from the IndyStar joins Query & Company to recap last night’s win for the Pacers over the Bucks. Dustin talks about the way he believes that the team will handle Tyrese Haliburton moving forward with his hip injury, assesses whether T.J. McConnell will start getting some rest the rest of the season, and then notes that Indiana really could have blown out Milwaukee if they made some of the wide open threes they missed. (42:06-46:32) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake and Eddie give away a pair of tickets for a listener to go see Mary J. Blige and Ne-Yo at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in April! (46:32-1:07:53) – Colts beat writer, Joel Erickson, from the IndyStar joins the program to ask questions about his wager with Robin the Genie. Joel also believes that the additions of Charvarius Ward and Camryn Bynum will allow the Colts to have a better evaluation of the quarterback competition and debates with Jake if they should take a flier on Shedeur Sanders if he’s available at fourteen for Indianapolis. (1:07:53-1:17:36) – After the game last night during Inside The NBA, Shaq misspoke when talking about the head coach of the Detroit Pistons. Jake asks Eddie about the popularity of the show still and if it’s still entertaining even though the crew has gotten older. (1:17:36-1:25:52) – Hour number two concludes with Jake and Eddie providing an update on Purdue and Indiana’s NCAA Tournament fate in the eyes of Joe Lunardi from ESPN. (1:25:52-1:49:51) – Last night Clemson’s Brad Brownell was asked about his interest in the Indiana head coaching job. Jake plays what Brownell’s response was to being questioned about it. Also, they get back on the discussion of Tyrese Haliburton’s miraculous four-point play by playing all the calls from around the world. (1:49:51-2:02:37) – IU athletics beat writer, Zach Osterman, from the IndyStar joins Jake Query to provide an update on where things are at with the Indiana coaching search, reacts to some of the names that Jake peppers him with as to whether or not they are still in the mix for the job, and believes that Indiana would be a team sweating all weekend if they lose to Oregon and be a team that misses the NCAA Tournament because of bid stealers. (2:02:37-2:08:24) – Today’s show closes with JMV joining the guys in the studio to discuss last night’s game for the Indiana Pacers and how different this team is with Tyrese Haliburton in the lineup!Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/query-and-company/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
