Eric is the chief resilience officer and director of community services for Metro Louisville. In this interview my goal was to find out who are “the homeless”? Who is trying to help them? How? What lies deeper than the symptoms we may see externally? You will learn another term for these individuals, another way to see them, and a way of seeing the individual standing in front of your rather than a label that has been used to define them. I was able to attend my first ever Pride event over the weekend. It was held on September 21 and hosted by the Louisville Pride Foundation. The event was held in the Highlands and featured booths from sponsors, health partners, vendors, and more. Speaking personally it was a lot of fun seeing people get to be free to be themselves and having a great time. I was able to interview a few people and I’ll share their diverse reasons for being involved and their thoughts, as well as some of the sights and sounds of the festival. I’ve been unable to locate the name of the band that was playing but I’ll shout them out if anyone knows who they are. In order, the three interviews were people from groups that we can support such as: Kentucky Black Pride Just Fund KY Nanny Goat Books Follow the LouisvilleOne Facebook page HERE Find more at LouisvilleOne.org Would you like to learn more about me, your host? Roughly 1600 people descended upon Iroquois Park in Louisville to break bread and break down barriers. People from different ends of town, from different cultures and faiths, and likely even people of different political perspectives all gathered to enjoy a meal together. Everyone was encouraged to bring a dish and even share a recipe of something that meant something to them. There was person giving away free cotton candy set up at one entrance. There were 250 tables sitting open for anyone to join. During the meal each table had a box of Louisville conversation cards that could be used to strike up conversations between guests. It was truly a wonderful experience. I take you through this experience both through interviews of those in attendance and also a walk down the tables as it was wrapping up to give you an idea of the atmosphere. You may not have been able to attend but this is a chance to become acquainted and to learn more about people in our community and what their concerns are for it. – LouisvilleOne.org Resources mentioned: The Big Table was organized by the Global Human Project. I hope to humanize us all across the Greater Louisville community through this endeavor. – LouisvilleOne.org Learn more about me at: MichaelShemwell.com Watch video of this episode on YouTube Music: A Strong Will is Needed by Derek Clegg
