This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Originally developed as an outdoor shopping destination, which opened in 2000, The Gateway has experienced a dramatic transformation since Arizona-based developer Vestar purchased the property in 2016. General Manager Bryan Hill shares more. Bryan Hill: Since Vestar purchased The Gateway, $100 million has been invested to upgrade and revitalize the development, ultimately transitioning from a shopping center to a lifestyle destination in Salt Lake City. It has become known as a thriving hub of retail, dining, entertainment, business, and arts and culture. It also serves as an integrated campus for some of Utah's most innovative life sciences companies, as well as Kiln, a coworking space with multiple locations in the West. The Gateway is committed to being a central gathering place by hosting more than 200 community events and cultural celebrations annually. These include everything from the Pride Festival and Festa Italiana, to July 4th and New Year's Eve celebrations. This fall, we welcome Asher Adams, a boutique hotel that's part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. This stunning centerpiece is an extensive historic remodel of Union Pacific Station. So, even as The Gateway approaches its 25th year, we continue to reinvent it to ensure it stays relevant. Derek Miller: Between the announcement of the 2034 Winter Olympics and all the plans for potential further revitalization of downtown, there are some great implications for The Gateway. We will look forward to seeing the continued evolution. I'm Derek Miller with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. Originally aired: 9/10/24

So Matt set out to create Hudson Pride Co., which last year hosted the first annual Valley Wide Pride Fest at Lakefront Park. The goal was to offer a safe space to members of the LGBTQ+ community in the St. Croix Valley area and to promote inclusiveness and acceptance. The event is back for a second year, and Matt joins this week's episode of St. Croix Stories to kick off Pride Month with an important conversation about what it was like for him to grow up in Hudson and how the Valley Wide Pride Fest is helping him strengthen his ties to his hometown. Embark on an enlightening exploration with Dean Nelson, LGBTQ pioneer and Whistler Pride and Ski Festival founder, as we dissect the critical need for compassionate leadership. In our heartfelt conversation, we delve into the chilling rise of violence against transgender individuals and the stark polarization gripping America. We share stories close to the heart, underscoring the dire need for leaders who champion facts and embrace diversity, steering clear of the treacherous path of fear and discrimination. The essence of democracy and pride takes center stage in our narrative, emphasizing the potency of being politically savvy, starting at the grassroots level. Discover the profound influence you wield by understanding the human rights stance of your local representatives—a tribute to the power vested in your vote. Our personal tales of empowerment and the symbolic triumph of salvaging a community event further illustrate the monumental impact of civic engagement on both personal and communal plains. Finally, we celebrate the triumphs of inclusivity within the workplace, sharing inspiring accounts from notable figures like a trans engineer at Electronic Arts and Olympian Mark Tewksbury. These narratives not only emphasize the importance of self-expression but also underscore the life-changing support of allyship. As we close, we're left with a message of hope—a vision of leadership that forms a more inclusive and secure world for everyone.About Our Guest:Dean Nelson, a vibrant force in his community, has catalyzed change and championed inclusivity throughout his remarkable journey. In 2006, Nelson played a pivotal role in rescuing Whistler's Gay Ski Week, igniting a passion for advocacy that led him to helm the annual festival, now known as the Whistler Ski & Pride Festival. In 2009, he co-founded the transformative Mr. Gay World (MGW) organization, merging sports, culture, and human rights to combat homophobia and nurture future leaders.A trailblazer, Nelson established the pioneering Olympic Pride House at the Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, setting a precedent for diversity in sports.Continuing his legacy, Nelson advises the Pride House Advisory Group, shaping inclusive environments for global events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.Educated in resort management and Japanese language and culture, Nelson's career spans esteemed roles in hospitality and tourism before founding Alpenglow Productions Corp, the driving force behind Whistler Pride and Ski Festival. His notable positions and contributions include directing Vancouver Pride, co-founding Mr. Gay Canada, and spearheading initiatives like the Vancouver North America Outgames Planning Committee.Nelson's dedication hasn't gone unnoticed, earning him accolades such as Pride Toronto's Award of Excellence in Sports and the Thompson Rivers University Distinguished Alumni: Human Rights Leadership Award and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws. With unwavering commitment, Dean Nelson continues to inspire, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of equality and inclusion.Social Media @GayWhistler @departuresXdeanConnect with Heather:Get Your Ally Toolkit Now, including a free primer! https://toolkit.chrysalismama.com/ally-free-giftYouTube: @chrysalismama9499TikTok: @chrysalismamaLearn how you can make an impact: https://linktr.ee/chrysalismamaSolutions listed on her website:

This weekend is the big Pride celebration in San Diego with the parade and the festival... Well, Erik, our resident gay gentleman, doesn't want any part of it. He thinks it's too hot and too crowded and he's not fond of rainbows. She he, not us, has proclaimed himself the worst gay in the world. We don't think so, Erik. We love you. Laura has an important question: "Is Temu legit?" Erik is attacked by a tiny bug And, Producer Bryan is presented with something very powerful and important...in Laura's opinion. We even have a video to explain the big presentation. Bryan isn't convinced but says he'll give it a try. Plus, Producer Bryan lays out all the movies that are about to hit theaters. We make fun, we tease, we laugh, but we love. We are unapologetically unfiltered and that is just how it is. Thank you for hanging with us. By all means, comment, email, share, subscribe, follow us on our socials, go to our website...all the things. Love you, mean it. Love your podcast!www.lauracainafterdark.com

Liberty Dispatch ~ June 15, 2023On this episode of the Dispatch, hosts Andrew and Matty re-cap the massive Education Not Indoctrination Protest hosted by Josh Alexander and Billboard Chris, at which an Ontario NDP MPP, Joel Harden, faked a hate hoax. They are also joined by concerned parents and students who have been reprimanded for failing to pay obeyance to the Rainbow during the "high, holy" Pride Festival. Apparently, you can get suspended for wearing shirts that state basic facts. Who Knew? This is our Canada. Time to wake up yet?[Segment 1] - Education Over Indoctrination Protest ft.
