In part 1 of this Beyond Sets & Reps episode, I get to sit down with my friend Jason Dierking, the Director of Olympic Sports Performance at the University of Louisville. We talk about his path from growing up in the Midwest to becoming one of the most respected leaders in our profession. Jason opens up about how his faith, values, and love for the training process shaped who he is as a coach and a person. We look back at how the field has changed, how discipline and gratitude were built into him early, and how those lessons still guide the way he serves athletes today. We also get into his journey as a grad assistant, his first full-time jobs, and what it was like taking on more responsibility while trying to keep learning and growing. Jason talks honestly about long days, heavy workloads, learning to delegate, and the mentors who helped him along the way. He shares what it meant to step into a leadership role at Louisville and how focusing on relationships, culture, and doing things the right way has helped move their program forward. It is a real conversation about character, perseverance, and leading with purpose in a high-performance world. Shoutout to podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee power-rank the four teams remaining in the College Football Playoff, which are Indiana, Oregon, Miami and Ole Miss. Topics include the cases for and against each team, which are: Miami has the country's best pass-rush, led by elite guys in Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain Jr. It has outstanding, play-making defensive backs in Keionte Scott and Bryce Fitzgerald. On offense, it has potential NFL first-round tackle Francis Mauigoa, one of the country's best receivers in Malachi Toney and a future NFL running back in Mark Fletcher, not to mention an experienced quarterback in Carson Beck. However, the Hurricanes lost to a pair of teams that are unranked in the final regular-season AP poll in SMU and Louisville, the latter at home. Indiana is the nation's only unbeaten team and perhaps the most statistically-dominant one, too. Not only did the Hoosiers have the Heisman Trophy winner in Fernando Mendoza, but they've got all-American and all-conference players at every position on the field and were strong in offense, defense and special teams. And, of course, Indiana has coach Curt Cignetti, who may be the coach most suited to win in the modern college football environment. The Hoosiers did not have a statistical weakness for the season. However, they were more mortal in spells, such as a 20-15 win at Iowa in which they had 337 yards of total offense and a 27-24 win at Penn State in which they trailed late into the fourth quarter and were out-gained, 336-326. Oregon can challenge Indiana's statistical dominance in some ways. The Ducks' yards-per-play difference of 2.5 was the same as the Hoosiers and like IU, is strong in the trenches. Oregon also has star power in quarterback Dante Moore and four all-Americans: tight end Kenyon Sadiq, offensive linemen Emanual Pregnon and Iapani Lalolu and defensive lineman Dillon Thieneman. That defense was also salty against Texas Tech, shutting out the Red Raiders in their first playoff game. However, Oregon's case for the top spot is hurt by the fact the Ducks lost 30-20 to Indiana in the regular season. Ole Miss wasn't supposed to be here under rookie coach Pete Golding. But the Rebels have buy-in and confidence, a star quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss who's gotten better as the season has progressed, a wide receiving corps that spreads teams out, a stud running back in Kewan Lacy and a defense that wasn't outstanding but was consistent. And speaking of consistency, the Rebels were held under 417 yards of offense (that was their lone loss to Georgia during the regular season). The Rebels were more consistent than dominant. They gained 6.7 yards per play and gave up 5.3. &COLLAR Use promo code SEC16 for 16% off! In this episode of Monday Night Live with Clay Edwards, dive into a raw, unfiltered discussion on the latest headlines and cultural hot buttons. Kicking off with breaking news from Jackson, Mississippi—named the deadliest city in America per capita for the fifth straight year despite a drop in homicides—Clay breaks down the stats, comparing rates to cities like Memphis, St. Louis, Birmingham, and Louisville. He explores why crime trends are falling nationally but not fast enough in certain areas, tying it to broader issues like urban decay, political leadership, and the impact on local life, including declining sports attendance in high-crime zones like St. Louis. The conversation expands nationally: Tim Walz's decision not to seek reelection amid corruption allegations, a bizarre incident at JD Vance's home involving a transgender suspect, and the dramatic arrest of Venezuelan leader Maduro, with Clay calling out political hypocrisy from figures like Chuck Schumer and praising bipartisan wins against tyranny. Sprinkled throughout are candid takes on racial dynamics, viral videos of street altercations, and societal "fatigue" with activist politics. Listener comments steer the chat toward lighter fare, like favorite beers (from Shock Top to craft IPAs) and local Mississippi brews. Tune in for Clay's no-holds-barred commentary, show prep insights, and a mix of serious analysis with off-the-cuff humor. Whether you're tracking crime stats, politics, or just enjoying the rabbit holes, this episode delivers. Subscribe for nightly livestreams and catch the vibe—peace!
Long before he founded the dating app Hinge, Justin McLeod was a little boy in Louisville, Kentucky, belting out Meat Loaf's “I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)” from the backseat of his mom's car. Looking back, that song feels almost prophetic, after Justin met – and briefly lost – the love of his life, only to win her back with a big, movie-worthy gesture. In this episode, Justin charts the story of building one of the most influential dating apps in the world – a journey intertwined with his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction and his own epic love story. He reflects on the moment he thought Hinge was finished, why he believes we create rather than find “the one,” and the soundtrack to his tumultuous life story. Here are his songs. Hello again friends. Thanks for listening to Winfluence, the Influence Marketing Podcast. It's been a minute! For those keeping track, the last time I posted an episode of Winfluence was two years ago. I hope you haven't missed me, but I also hope you're excited to hear something new from my thoughts on influence marketing. And, as a measure of transparency, know that the only reason I stopped regular episodes of the show is … well … it worked. I've been blessed with a full roster of client work in that time and just didn't have the bandwidth to keep up the pace. But that means I have two more years of experience dealing with the day to day of influence marketing strategy, campaign management, execution and measurement. I've also been teaching students an influence strategy course at the University of Louisville, so it's not like I'm coming back to the podcast without new ideas or fresh perspective, so I hope you'll appreciate that. And, to be realistic, I can't promise I'm going to churn out a weekly episode from now on and be right back in the saddle. Let's just say when I've got to something to share with you, I will. So your subscription is still worth holding onto. And I won't be throwing countless episodes at you just to stay top of mind. For those of you who enjoy a good Jason Falls rant now and then, you'll be delighted to hear that those moments are really the ones when I have something to say and share. So expect less interviews and more grumpy old man wishing the world would be better. When a new episode of Winfluence pops into your feed … It'll be fun, for sure. What burr in my saddle has me champing at the bit to return to the podcast? Talent managers are killing the creator economy. I explain how and why on this episode of Winfluence. Are you heading into 2026 feeling like you're supposed to have a big New Year's resolution, yet something about that whole system feels off? In this episode, Kent and Lawson do something different. They "interview" each other about 2025 and talk honestly about what God taught them, where life was hard, and where God showed up with unexpected strength, healing, provision, and joy. You'll hear stories about 30-year anniversaries, job changes, parenting kids in different seasons, weddings, health scares, and the kind of perspective shift that happens when you stop and remember what God has already done. This conversation is also a simple template you can use with a brother, a friend, your dad, or your adult son. Sit down, trade notes, and look for God's fingerprints on the year you just lived. As you start a new year, remember this: you're not going to become the dad your family needs by accident. Let's walk into 2026 with gratitude, wisdom, and purpose. The first, Wise Guys: Unlocking Hidden Wisdom from the Men Around You, was written to help men learn how to find mentors and wise counsel. The latest, Don't Bench Yourself: How to Stay in the Game Even When You Want to Quit, aims to help dads stay present in their roles as fathers and husbands even when they feel like giving up. Kent's life has been radically affected by godly mentors and his lovely wife, April. They have been married thirty years and have five sons and one daughter-in-law. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky. Lawson Brown is husband to his high school sweetheart, a father of two young adult daughters, has been a business leader since 1995, and is a former Marine. Against the Grain wound down its operations at Louisville Slugger Field in late December. This week on the Access Louisville podcast, we chat with Sam Cruz, one of the founders of the brewery, about the closure and what's next for the Louisville beer brand. The company had been at Louisville Slugger Field for 14 years. It announced the closure in a Facebook post recently, saying its lease at the ballpark is expiring and it has opted not to renew. The restaurant's last day was Tuesday, Dec. 23.Losing the space is like letting go of a "living memory," Cruz tells us on the show. But he's not sad about it."Its hard to be sad about evolution," he said. "Life changes. Our company and us as people we've grown and evolved and the restaurant has kinda run its course. It's time to look beyond that. I felt really comfortable ... being able to land the plane as oppose to holding on and potentially crashing at some point." In recent years, Cruz and business partner Jerry Gnagy bought out two previous partners in Against the Grain, and those two partners had been handling the restaurant side of the business, Cruz said. The brewery has had a production facility in Portland for about a decade now. With the previous partners out and the alcohol industry as a whole in decline, Against the Grain has been working on a pivot toward production. In particular, they've been working on diversifying their abilities as a production company for different beverages. "We could do soda or we could do a packaged water. We're going to get into coffees and products like that. So the future for us is over the next year at the very least is building on that portfolio of contract clients that we have," he tells us.You can hear the full interview during the episode. Against the Grain closed its Highlands Public House in August 2024, citing a challenging lease renewal and shifting neighborhood economics. In 2022, it shuttered the Sandwich Emporium Downtown and parted with The Whirling Tiger music venue in Butchertown, later sold to new operators. Earlier this year we reported the company launched a new line of THC beverages called ZAZA. The brand is available in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and regionally in the Chicago-area.Against the Grain is the second-largest brewer of beer in Metro Louisville with 5,000 barrels produced locally last year.
