Roman Yampolskiy has spent two decades trying to prove that superintelligent AI can be controlled. He couldn't. I invited him on to make his case. Subscribe if you want science with evidence, not speculation. Roman is a professor of computer science at the University of Louisville and one of the earliest researchers in AI safety. His book AI: Unexplainable, Unpredictable, Uncontrollable started as an attempt to solve the alignment problem. After decades of work, it became a proof that the problem cannot be solved. Not difficult. Mathematically impossible. I push back hard. We go after the Einstein test: can a large language model trained only on pre-1911 physics reproduce what Einstein did with the same data? We ran that experiment. It failed. Roman and I disagree about what that means. We also get into the halting problem and what it actually tells us about predicting smarter-than-human behavior, whether value alignment is a real problem or a well-funded category error, the case for a government moratorium on frontier model development, and why Roman thinks giving an AI agent access to your computer is the dumbest thing a smart person can do. What you'll hear: Whether AI control is mathematically impossible or just unsolved Why Roman thinks all current AI safety work is security theater What the halting problem actually means for superintelligence The alignment problem: real issue or well-funded category error Why Roman wants a moratorium on frontier model development What to tell your kids about careers in a world where Roman might be right If you listen to other people, the best you can become is average. 123. How Enneagram Type 2s Can Give More Effective Feedback at Work

    Enneagram MBA

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 13, 2026 12:11

For Type 2s, the Coach (source: Awareness to Action Enneagram), giving feedback isn't just uncomfortable, it can feel genuinely risky. When connection is your currency, anything that might strain a relationship hits differently. In this episode, we're walking through why feedback feels so hard for this type, what Type 2s are already doing well, and a few adjustments that can help their feedback actually land, without sacrificing the warmth that makes them so good at leading people in the first place. What You'll Hear in This EpisodeType 2s are wired to see the best in people. That's such a strength,  but in a feedback conversation, it can work against you. The message gets softened, exceptions keep getting made, and the person on the receiving end walks away thinking everything is fine when it isn't. This episode helps Type 2s separate the person they care about from the behavior that needs to change, so they can deliver honest feedback without feeling like they're damaging the relationship because staying quiet is actually what damages it.3 Things to DO as a Type 2 When Giving FeedbackAnchor the conversation in the relationship first. Before you get into the feedback, let the other person know you're coming from a place of care. Something like "I'm bringing this up because I care about you and your success here" is genuine, coming from a Type 2, and people will feel that. It lowers their guard and opens them up before the harder part of the conversation begins.Use your coaching instinct to frame it as "here's what I see in you, and here's what's getting in the way." This lets you stay connected to their potential while still giving honest, specific feedback and clear recommendations for change. It's the sweet spot for this type.Stay specific about the behavior, not the person. You might genuinely adore this person, but their behavior is causing a problem. Keep those two things separate. When they blur together, the feedback gets confusing to deliver and confusing to receive.3 Things to AVOID as a Type 2 When Giving FeedbackSoftening the message so much it doesn't land. If you've sandwiched the feedback so thoroughly that the other person walks away thinking everything is fine, you haven't helped them. And helping people is the whole point. Clear feedback delivered with warmth is still kind. Unclear feedback delivered with warmth is just a missed opportunity.Continuing to make exceptions to protect the relationship. One more chance, let's see what happens. I'll say something next time. Sound familiar? The relationship is actually better served by honest feedback than by silence. Staying quiet to avoid discomfort puts your comfort above what that person actually needs. A small reframe that might help: not saying something isn't kind. It just feels easier in the moment.Waiting until you're frustrated to finally say something. Type 2s can have a slow burn, putting things off, making exceptions, absorbing frustration, until it all comes out at once from a place of resentment or total depletion. By then, the message gets lost in the heat of the moment. Say something before you get there.A Phrase to Try"I'm telling you this because I genuinely believe in what you're capable of, and I'd rather have this conversation now than watch something get in your way."That's it. That's the whole spirit of Type 2 feedback done well. Use it at the start, the end, or somewhere in the middle, and make it yours.Resources + Next StepsAre you a Type 2 with something to add, validate, or push back on? Equine skin problems can stem from a wide range of causes, including parasites, bacterial or fungal infections, allergies, and prolonged exposure to moisture or irritants. Successfully managing horses with skin problems relies on working with your veterinarian to identify the underlying issue and appropriately treat it. Because many dermatologic conditions can look similar in the early stages, it's important to have the veterinarian evaluate your horse promptly to help prevent complications and improve outcomes. During this episode, veterinarians answer your questions about common equine skin problems. This episode is brought to you by Creative Science. Meet the Experts: Julia Miller, DVM, Dipl. ACVD, was equine-focused in veterinary school at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York, and completed a rotating large animal internship at the University of Georgia, in Athens, after graduation. She then went on to be a mixed animal general practitioner for several years before finding her true love, dermatology, and heading back to Cornell for her residency. She now practices in the beautiful land of the bluegrass in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and loves working on all creatures great and small!Carly Turner-Garcia, DVM, Dipl. ACT, spent her earlier years working in exotic and small animal veterinary medicine before finding her passion for horses during undergraduate studies at Berry College, in Mount Berry, Georgia. She graduated from The University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine, in Athens, continued to an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and a residency in theriogenology at Texas A&M University, in College Station, where she earned her Dipl. ACT. She spent the next 10 years in private practice in Weatherford, Texas, and Guthrie, Oklahoma, seeing everything from critical neonatal cases to orthopedic emergencies with a heavy caseload of advanced reproduction. She recently joined the team at Creative Science as a technical services veterinarian while operating her own practice, Black Type Equine, focusing on advanced equine reproduction throughout the U.S. Her biggest joy comes from spending time with her husband, Taylor Garcia, PhD, and their two boys on their ranch in Oklahoma raising cattle, Quarter Horses, and working dogs.

What does it look like to play offense as a dad?   With Father's Day around the corner, Kent and Lawson challenge fathers to stop thinking of themselves as recipients and start thinking like leaders, investors, and disciple-makers. In today's episode, we draw from Hebrews 12, Philippians 4, Psalm 119, and Ephesians 6, and unpack practical ways dads can intentionally lead their families toward Christ instead of simply reacting to whatever life throws at you.   In this episode, you'll learn: Why Father's Day should be about giving, not getting How small moments of time with your kids create lasting impact Four key Bible passages every dad should know Why passivity is one of the biggest threats to modern fatherhood How to lead your family with purpose, confidence, and spiritual direction   Whether your kids are toddlers, teenagers, or grown adults, this conversation will encourage you to take the next step toward becoming a more intentional, Christ-centered father.   Want to shape the direction of the show this year? This week on Truth to Power, we bring you a community conversation about the scourge of plastics, the impacts of micorplastics on our health, and how you can get involved locally in addressing the issue! The special guest at the last meeting of Beyond Plastics Louisville on May 21, 2026, was Dr. Timothy O'Toole, associate professor at UofL's Division of Environmental Medicine, speaking about his research into how microplastics affect cardiovascular health. Dr. O'Toole shared research findings showing that mice exposed to microplastics in their drinking water developed obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. The presentation includes detailed explanations of how microplastics contribute to inflammation and white blood cell adhesion in blood vessels. Following the scientific presentation, the group discussed their new "Bring Your Own Coffee Cup" campaign, which aims to partner with local coffee shops to reduce single-use plastic waste. The campaign involves placing promotional stickers in coffee shops and encouraging customers to bring reusable cups, with plans to create a "coffee shop street team" to help contact and recruit participating businesses. In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles sits down with Ben Daughtry and Jonathan Palmer of Love Jones — the Louisville-born, LA-based band that has been crafting their unique blend of lounge, soul, pop, and sharp-witted storytelling for over three decades. The conversation kicks off with a shared love of live music, as both Ben and Jonathan trace their concert-going roots back to the same unlikely starting point: Van Halen. Ben recalls sneaking into a show at 14, way too young to be there, watching a then-unknown Van Halen open for Black Sabbath and feeling like "a bomb going off." Jonathan recounts his own Van Halen baptism at Freedom Hall in Louisville on the Women and Children First Invasion Tour — complete with $7.50 festival seating and his mother taking notes in the stands. From there, the episode becomes a wide-ranging tour through decades of live music obsession. The guys swap stories about Ted Nugent crowd surges, jumping on stage with GWAR in New Orleans, playing congas with Tool at an early Lollapalooza, and watching Rage Against the Machine move 60,000 people. Jonathan shares privileged industry moments — seeing The Rolling Stones at a 600-capacity room in New York alongside Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Questlove, and catching Nine-Inch Nails at The Troubadour when they felt "too big for the building." The conversation is fueled by genuine enthusiasm, with each story triggering another in a kind of joyful avalanche of rock and roll memory. The second half of the episode turns to the band's own story — from their residency at Largo on Fairfax, where David Bowie once sat quietly in a booth and Tool's crew became regulars, to their unexpected appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album Here's to the Losers. Charles and the guys dig into the Cocktail Nation moment of the '90s, the making of their new album The Greatest Show on Earth — written during COVID jam sessions in a Louisville warehouse with crickets chirping and trains passing — and the cinematic, Gil Evans-influenced sound that ties its six expansive tracks together. The episode closes with the band expressing hope to get back on the road, a shout-out to their partnership with Whiskey Thief Distillery, and a tease of possible activity around the 30th anniversary of the film Swingers, on whose soundtrack Love Jones famously appeared. This episode of The C.L. Brown Show features Louisville Kings head coach Chris Redman ahead of their United Bowl appearance on Saturday against the D.C. Defenders to crown the United Football League champion. The former University of Louisville quarterback talks about the significant changes he made that helped the expansion team turn its inaugural season around to reach the title game despite an 0-3 start. Redman says he took an "old-school" approach to coaching the team, letting a few talented players go because they didn't fit the team-first culture he was trying to create. He even traded away starting quarterback Jason Bean four games into the season, and it ultimately proved to be the right move. The Kings won six of their last seven regular season games to make the UFL playoffs, then avenged their only loss during that streak by beating St. Louis in the semifinals last week. Hear about that and more on this week's episode of The C.L. Brown Show.
