Muhammad Ali, Louisville's favorite son, is remembered for his activism as much as his first-class boxing. But Ali was not alone in using the pulpit of his sporting success to stand up for social causes. This week on “In Conversation,” we explored how fighting for equity — in the past and now — is as important to many athletes as competing for awards and accolades.

”The physical is exemplifying what's happening in the mental, and when we don't live from our soul's purpose, it has an effect on our body both mentally and physically.” Mary Welp If left uncontrolled, many of the unhelpful human states such as stress and anxiety can take over and become a source of pain. By enhancing mind-body control, people are able to exert more control over their thoughts and perceptions, thus improve the quality of life lived. This is according to Mary Welp, who also notes that such healing affects a whole generation and not only the individual. Mary Welp is a certified hypnotherapist specializing in Hypnotic Meditation. After 20 years of private practice as a Craniosacral therapist and 14 years as a certified hypnotherapist, she launched RISE Hypnotic Meditation to teach others how to bring meaningful, positive changes to their lives. She teaches a direct, easy, adaptable practice in 4 steps: Relax, Imagine, Suggest, and Empower. Mary helps those who are interested in self-improvement or anyone would like to get rid of a bad habit, fear, or imprint. She works within the following areas but not limited to: boundaries, social anxiety, sports performance, self-confidence, fear of rejection, optimism, procrastination, letting go of anger, guilt, improving sleep, grief and loss, and relationships. Her practice allows anyone to turn their attention inward to make a shift for the better in order to become a healthier, happier person. Since the pandemic, Mary has shifted her practice from one-on-one sessions to teaching. She now travels and teaches a three-hour workshop across the country which she likes to refer to as a marriage of meditation and self-hypnosis. Her mission is to spread this self-healing therapy to as many people as possible. Mary loves being a grandmother and lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband Jim. Aside from publishing her first book, RISE, Mary has also co-authored the book “The Ultimate Guide to Self-Healing Vol 5”, currently #1 on Amazon in Spirituality, Journaling, Holistic Medicine and Mind-Body connection. In today's episode, Mary talks about how she uses hypnotic meditation to help her clients improve themselves and live a life of purpose. Listen in! Social Media Links https://www.risehypnoticmeditation.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/mary-welp-25581840/ https://twitter.com/marycwelp https://www.instagram.com/risehypnoticmeditation/ I've been doing private practice for a long time, and I started with bodywork then later got my hypnotherapy license and I started marrying the two therapies together. For the last year and three months, I've been traveling and teaching RISE as a three-hour workshop, teaching the steps and talking about why and how it works. I realized the diversity and definitiveness of self-hypnosis, and it does shift and change things giving your subconscious the opportunity to reprogram a little bit. As we grow, learn and we change, we get to have a more stable emotional, grounding way of life. A lot of people get stuck and get themselves in a hole, because of what life expects of us which normally isn't who we are. The physical is exemplifying what's happening in the mental, and when we don't live from our soul's purpose, it has an effect mentally and physically on our body. It's really about giving us the opportunity to live our highest goals and dreams. We have this opportunity to, not just have meaningful lives for ourselves, but also for those that follow us. When we do effect change in ourselves, it definitely has a ripple effect. Commercial Break I've written the rise hypnotic meditation book so that people can pick it up, read it, and know and how and why it works. When we're given that opportunity to sit and look at ourselves and our part in it, that opens up the door for change. When we have that intention to identify something that we need to change in ourselves, it shifts it. Tension is who you think you should be, and relaxation is who you are. If you scan your body now and then and connect with where you feel tension in your body, and breathe into that, you're going to be more authentically yourself. ………………………………………………… Do you want to be a go to expert that news reporters, anchors and media producers turn to? Moe Clark is one of the pastors of my church, and though we both live in and met in Louisville, Kentucky, we grew up in Southern California, but very different parts, and with very different lifestyles. Welcome him to the show as we discuss the movie he chose: Boyz n the Hood (1991). Moe chose Boyz n the Hood because that's the time and era he grew up in, and it's a movie that speaks to the harder side of culture. We analyze whether the film is accurate to real-life South Central Los Angels. I ask Moe about the Black cop in the movie who seems to despise all the other Black residents. He gives his personal observation on this sometimes strange dynamic. In time for Father's Day, we spend a lot of time speaking about fathers and sons in this episode, and the importance of young men especially, to have father figures in their lives, because, as Moe points out, we are always being formed by something, and what we choose to mold us can be paramount to our future, and even our morality. But unfortunately, even if we choose the right path, if we're in the wrong place at the wrong time, we're not exempt from our surroundings. I invite Moe to walk me through systemic racism from his point of view. He parts the curtains on why there are so many gun shops, liquor stores, and Planned Parenthood facilities in impoverished neighborhoods. Moe highlights the problems with boys growing up without positive male figures in their lives, and how boys are constantly seeking approval, and it will be found from either a father-figure or from the streets. Moe shines light on how we can be positive models for young people in need. I conclude our interview with a personal question about how to handle racism and diversity with my kids, and my preconceived notions are slightly and happily disturbed. I ask Moe a few movie questions relating to Boyz n the Hood, then ask him three other desert island movies. Check out this video where Moe talks specifically about the George Floyd murder with our lead pastor and worship leader. InstagramFacebookTwitterEmail: Author.andrewtoy@gmail.comThis episode was sponsored by Spur Creative

This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring Former Utah State and Texas Tech Head Coach, Matt Wells. In this episode, Coach Wells shares his past experience coaching his alma mater at Utah State, highlights the importance of getting players involved in the local community, and shares what being a part of the Allstate Good Works team has meant to him. Matt Wells was named the honorary coach for the Allstate Good Works Team this past year. Coach Wells was most recently the head coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2019-2021. Beginning with his arrival at Texas Tech, Wells stressed the importance of building a positive, player-driven culture within the football program. He described it as having a "We, Us and Our" mentality, meaning it takes every individual, inside and outside of the program, to contribute for the Red Raiders to be successful on Saturday. That motto applied to the Red Raiders' work in the community as well as the Texas Tech football program committed countless hours to various non-profit organizations and local school districts over his tenure. During the 2020-21 academic year alone, the Red Raiders combined for more than 1,200 hours of community service, serving organizations such as the local YWCA, the South Plains Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Club of Lubbock and Habitat for Humanity, among others. Prior to Tech, Wells was the head coach for his alma mater at Utah State, following two seasons as an assistant coach on staff. Utah State experienced its best stretch in history during Wells' tenure as the Aggies won 44 games and played in five bowl games under his guidance, quite the feat for a program that had only eight postseason trips to its record prior to his promotion. Wells, the fourth-longest tenured coach in program history, departed Utah State as the only coach to lead the Aggies to at least three bowl games as well as multiple bowl victories. In fact, Wells was a player (1993), a coordinator (2012) or the head coach (2013-14) for four of Utah State's five bowl wins in its history. Wells closed his tenure in Logan as the second-winningest coach in program history with 44 victories. Wells has also had coaching stops at New Mexico, Louisville, Tulsa, and Navy. It's time for another potentially excellent episode of the Greatest Pod in The South starring Neal McCready of RebelGrove.com and Jay G. Tate from AuburnSports.com. . Topics covered: • Jay struck gold (proverbially) during his 50th Birthday weekend in Louisville. • What other kinds of good things happened during Jay's drunken trip? • It looks like reporters will be welcomed, or perhaps encouraged, to cover games in person this fall. That forces a curious choice for folks like Jay and Neal, who have spent the past two or three years doing shows off campus. • Will the SEC actually change its scheduling paradigm as it relates to football? With the upcoming addition of Oklahoma and Texas, something has to change. Still, Neal thinks even more teams will be part of the SEC before too long. That adds even more complexity to the task. • Is Miami positioning itself to jump away from the ACC? • Is Auburn's Jabari Smith the best NBA prospect in the 2022 Draft class? • Ole Miss' approach toward recruiting high-school players is very interesting — and may put the Rebels uniquely ahead of the curve. • Coaches make more money than ever now. That will affect how long they coach. Villanova coach Jay Wright is living proof. How does God want to use you to have an impact? If this question has ever crossed your mind, today's episode is for you, friend! I am super excited to share this recent conversation I had with Kyle Idelman as he talks to us about the Jesus way of changing the world--loving people one at a time. Most of us don't want to spend our lives being time-wasters, space-takers, binge-watchers, or game-players. We want to be difference-makers. Kyle does an amazing job in giving us practical ways we can do that in our everyday lives.  Kyle Idleman is a bestselling author and the senior pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, one of the largest churches in America. He's most widely known for his award-winning book, not a fan., which has sold more than 1.3 million copies and has sparked a movement among believers. Kyle has authored other books, including One at a Time, The End of Me, gods at war, Grace Is Greater, and Don't Give Up. Kyle and his wife DesiRae have four children and live on a farm where he does no farming.  Listen in to learn more about: The profound impact and influence we can have in the lives of others and the best way to go about it.  How the use of the two words “Jesus saw” preceded some of the most amazing stories of transformed lives.. The bystander effect, how it keeps people from making an impact in the lives of others, and some practical steps to begin making a difference today.  Favorite quotes: ~ We tend to define influence or influencer to describe someone who has a certain amount of social media following. While that has impact and influence, the most profound influence we can have is almost always one person at a time. ~ When Jesus loves people one at a time it begins with His eyes, it begins with what HE saw. One of the things I really would challenge people about is to pray a simple prayer of “ Jesus help me to see people the way you see them,  give me eyes for the one”.  ~ One of the most important pieces is availability, is just saying    “OK ,I'll do it, I am available” - That, saying Yes to God and being available to God is a big piece of this and is certainly  consistent in how God calls people throughout the Old and New Testament - He invites but we have to be available and have a willingness to do it.  ~ Jesus talked about if you want to be great then you become the servant of all, you make yourself less. Greatness is not defined by attention, it is defined by servanthood. In this episode I answered this question: What are some small changes I can make to feel happier everyday? (32:47) Links to great things we discussed:   It's always been you - Phil Wickam song The Office - TV Series Life 360 app Kyle Idleman Website One at a time -Kyle Idelman resources The Crown - TV Series King of my heart - Song  Worship for Fierce Faith - Spotify Playlist Loreal - Magic Perfecting base  Confident Motherhood Community Hope you loved this episode!
