Like many mental illnesses, depression comes with stigmas and misunderstanding, and whether you've experienced one large episode in your lifetime, or it's recurring (like 5% of the American population), or even if you've never had an experience like depression before, this episode was created for you. In this first part of Love and Living with Depression, we humbly invite you to listen to Shiloh's own experiences with depression, from a young girl to her mid-20's. As we aren't professionals concerning mental illness, we decided to stay true to our own story and released the desire to overwhelm with many different accounts of depression, and anyone else's story of it. Just like in our past episodes, there may be triggers (suicide, alcohol use, drug use, abuse, mental illnesses), so please take care of yourself and stop listening should you feel triggered. Next week, Part 2 of Love and Living with Depression will conclude Shiloh's personal story, while also including tools, strategies, and references that may be of service to you, your partner, or a member of your life. Lean in, listen in and take this time for yourself. Enjoy. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support

Love and The Virtuous Cycle. The third and final episode of The Power of Joy is available to enjoy! Nathaniel and Shiloh get personal in this one - how they turned their own pain and struggles into serving others, engaging in inward alchemy, and breaking down what the cycle of joy means to them. Highlighting The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, listen carefully as they explain what we all know, but sometimes forget: in order to feel joy, we have to give it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support
What really makes us happy? Why is the US so obsessed with happiness and joy? As consumers, we are driven to BUY joy, purchase happy moments, and search far and wide for natural highs. We've been there! In part 2 of our Power of Joy series, we were inspired by the special edition TIME magazine with the same name. The eye opening and mind expanding feels so good after reading the articles, we just had to share it with you. We break it down for you - how research is changing the way we see happiness along with 6 common misconceptions about happiness. We also talk about ways we changed our minds about this emotion, and what we plan to do about our own pursuit of happiness. Listen in, lean in, and know you're loved. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support
In this episode Smiling Through Trying Times, we bring you part of a series, The Power of Joy. This particular episode is a great way to introduce the series, as we get inspiration from medical websites, Time magazine articles, Shiloh's shaman (Susan Roback), and books from her personal library. What is joy? If has to be more than the golden character from Pixar's Inside Out, right? Why do we smile, and where does it come from? Who affects our joy and how can we cultivate more of the feel good hormones? Listen in, weigh in and share your experiences with us and others during these trying times, because what we need more than anything, is connection. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support
2021 has arrived and 2020 is in the past. Or is it? In this episode, we reflect on our year, not just to find connection with you, but to remember where we came from, and what happened. While we express our miracles, lessons and struggles, we invite you to do the same in this hour long intention seeking (not necessarily attention seeking) take on what we can move into 2021 with. A timeline of 2020 will forever be a reminder that we survived, thrived (breakdowns are thriving!) and found messages in the mess. Let's reflect together and build ourselves up to have an amazing calendar year! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support

Vulnerability: quite the buzz word as of late, right? There's no way around it though - relationships thrive when the occupants live openly with each other by sharing their dreams, fears, and vulnerabilities. Sounds easy enough! Sign me up! But ask yourself, what does vulnerability look like in your life - your relationships with self and others? Where do you draw lines, create blocks, and hide yourself? Where do you create boundaries? In this second episode, we uncover 6 things to seriously consider when diving into a vulnerable place and how to embrace this beautiful way of living. After, we suggest 7 ways to become more vulnerable in your relationships - practical practices that anyone can cultivate, if they really want it. Starting slowly and creating the habits (it's all safe, but seems daunting). You'll hear us quote Brene Brown and test our own boundaries, all while sharing a few of our vulnerabilities. Where you find a safe space, vulnerability can come easily, but the real work is living it with your people every day. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support
For Nathaniel and Shiloh's first podcast episode, they dig deep to share what it's like to experience bipolar disorder every day, from childhood to later years, and from manic to depressive. Even more, you'll hear what being in a relationship is like for both of them, because Nate is SO open and honest! They're very proud to bring this raw version of mental illness awareness to you, while hoping to break stigmas related to bipolar disorder. Warning: there are potential triggers some may experience during this hour long truth-sesh, so please be kind to yourself and stop the episode at any time - we'll be releasing episode 2 next week! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loveandapodcast/support
